Trane RTWD and RTUD Chillers R'newal Service Program Kit Installation Instructions
This document provides installation instructions for the R'newal Service Program Kit for Trane RTWD and RTUD Chillers. It is intended for use by the Trane sales and service organization in support of the R'newal service program.
Safety Warnings
WARNING: Only qualified personnel should install and service this equipment. Improper installation or servicing can lead to death or serious injury. Always observe all precautions in the literature and on equipment tags, stickers, and labels.
WARNING: Failure to follow code could result in death or serious injury. All field wiring MUST be performed by qualified personnel. Improperly installed and grounded field wiring poses FIRE and ELECTROCUTION hazards. Follow requirements in NEC and local/state/national electrical codes.
WARNING: Failure to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job could result in death or serious injury. Technicians MUST use appropriate PPE, including cut-resistant gloves/sleeves, butyl gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, fall protection, electrical PPE, and arc flash clothing, as specified in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and OSHA guidelines.
WARNING: Follow EHS Policies! Failure to follow instructions could result in death or serious injury. All Trane personnel must follow company Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies. Non-Trane personnel should always follow local regulations.
Important Environmental Concerns
Trane advocates responsible handling of all refrigerants. Certain man-made chemicals, including CFCs and HCFCs, can affect the earth's stratospheric ozone layer. Trane supports the use of industry replacements for CFCs and HCFCs, such as HFCs and HCFCs, and emphasizes responsible management practices.
Important Responsible Refrigerant Practices
All technicians handling refrigerants must be certified according to local rules. In the USA, the Federal Clean Air Act (Section 608) mandates requirements for handling, reclaiming, recovering, and recycling refrigerants and related equipment. Adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
Model Number Descriptions
The R'newal model number breakdown provides details for RTWD and RTUD chillers. An example model number is structured as follows:
- Digit 1: R'newal (R = Trane R'newal)
- Digits 2-5: Chiller Model (RTWD = Water-Cooled Series R Chiller, RTUD = Compressor Series R Chiller)
- Digits 6-8: Unit Tonnage (e.g., 080 = 80 Unit Tons)
- Digit 9: Compressor Circuit (1, 2, or B for Both Circuits)
- Digit 10: R'newal Design Sequence (A or B)
- Digit 11: Chiller Voltage (A=200V, B=230V, D=380V, F=460V, G=575V, all 60Hz, 3-Phase)
- Digit 12: Original Design Sequence (A or B)
- Digits 13-16: Not Used (Future Use)
- Digit 17: Design Special (0 = No Special, 1 = Special)
Installation
Refer to current unit installation, operation, and maintenance literature for detailed procedures, rigging instructions, and additional information.
