Installation and Mounting Manual for EK-FB KIT ASUS R5-E10 Water Block
This document provides instructions for installing the EK-FB KIT ASUS R5-E10 water block. It is intended for expert users. Consult a qualified technician if unsure. EK Water Blocks is not liable for damages due to improper installation. Instructions are subject to change; visit www.ekwb.com for updates. Read all notices, disclosures, and warranty conditions before proceeding.
Basic Guidelines Before Installation:
- Read this manual thoroughly before starting.
- Remove the motherboard from the computer for a safer installation process and to prevent damage to the CPU or motherboard's circuit board (PCB).
- EK High Flow and EK-ACF fittings require minimal force to screw in firmly, as the liquid seal is provided by rubber O-ring gaskets.
- Using quality, market-proven corrosion-inhibiting coolants is strongly recommended for any liquid cooling system.

STEP 2: PREPARING YOUR MOTHERBOARD
REMOVING STOCK COOLER
Illustration showing screw locations for removing the stock cooler. Remove all encircled screws. Four screws are on the front of the motherboard (picture on the right) to detach the factory-installed backplate. Remove all 12 screws from the back side (picture on the left) to detach the SB/MOSFET heat pipe cooling solution. Be careful to disconnect all electrical connections.
CLEANING THE PCB
Carefully detach the original stock cooler after removing all securing screws. Wipe off any remaining original thermal compound using a non-abrasive cloth or Q-tip. EKWB recommends using denatured alcohol for removing TIM leftovers.
APPLYING THERMAL COMPOUND
Apply thermal compound: lightly coat the Intel X99 PCH (SB) with electrically non-conductive thermal grease (EK-TIM Ectotherm, enclosed). EKWB recommends applying thermal grease in a cross pattern for best performance (see sample picture).
CUTTING THERMAL PADS
WARNING: DIMENSIONS ON PICTURES BELOW ARE SCALED.
Your water block comes with thermal pads that need to be trimmed to fit the voltage regulation area (VRM/MOSFET) and other elements on the motherboard's circuit board.
Diagram illustrating thermal pad types and intended placement areas: ① Thermal pad F - 0.5mm (for VRM inductor coils), ② Thermal pad F - 1mm (for MOSFETS), ③ Thermal pad F - 2mm (for circuit board).
Replacement thermal pads are available at the EKWB webshop:
- Thermal PAD F 0.5mm - (120x16mm) (EAN: 3830046996725)
- Thermal PAD F 1.0mm - (120x16mm) (EAN: 3830046996732)
- Thermal PAD F 2.0mm - (120x16mm) (EAN: 3830046996756)
PLACING THERMAL PADS ON MOTHERBOARD
Place the cut thermal pads on the PCB as shown in the picture below. PLEASE REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE FOIL FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE THERMAL PADS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. EK recommends using small drops of electrically non-conductive thermal grease (e.g., Arctic Cooling MX-2™ or MX-4™) on each phase regulator covered by a thermal pad to further improve thermal performance.

STEP 3: PREPARING YOUR WATER BLOCK
PLACING SB WATER BLOCK ON MOTHERBOARD
Place the SB part of the water block, with preinstalled 2.5mm standoffs, gently onto the motherboard. Ensure mounting holes are aligned. Skip to STEP 4 for fastening the water block.
Illustration showing the SB water block being placed onto the motherboard. Note: If washers are not pre-attached to the PCB, use the enclosed self-adhesive PVC washers. Be careful not to double the washers.
PLACING MOSFET BLOCK ON MOTHERBOARD
Place the MOSFET water block gently onto the motherboard. Ensure mounting holes are aligned. Use a PVC washer.

STEP 4: ATTACHING BLOCK TO MOTHERBOARD
Prior to fastening screws, ensure the mounting holes on the motherboard's circuit board align with the water block.
A) SB block: Use four M2.5x5 AX1 screws and washers. Tighten screws evenly, starting near the south bridge. Do not use excessive force. If installing the factory backplate, remove the encircled screw and replace it with one M2.5x7 AX1 screw. Do not use excessive force.
B) MOSFET block: Use the ASUS factory ("stock") backplate and two M2.5x7 AX1 screws. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten. Do not use excessive force.

STEP 5: POSITIONING FITTINGS AND CONNECTING TO WATER CIRCUIT
Attach the liquid cooling tubes and connect the water-block(s) into the cooling circuit. EKWB recommends using EK-ACF compression fittings with the EK-FB KIT ASUS R5-E10 series water block. You can use any opening as an inlet/outlet port. Plan your tubing routing in advance!
