4 Preparing the Coffee Maker
4.1 Filling with Tap Water The Water symbol lights up. The quality of tap water significantly influences the taste of the coffee. Fill the water tank only with clean, cold tap water, without carbon dioxide. Change the water daily. Do not fill more water than the maximum amount.
4.2 Filling with Coffee Beans The Coffee Beans symbol flashes. Caution! Do not use any freeze-dried or caramelized coffee beans, as they may clog the grinding mechanism. Ground coffee and instant beverages can also cause damage to the grinding mechanism. Roasted coffee beans lose their aroma within a few days. Do not fill too many coffee beans into the bean container. Caution! When changing the type of coffee beans, a small amount of the previous type remains in the grinding mechanism. The next two cups of coffee will be prepared with the residue of the previous type. People with caffeine intolerance should only consume the third decaffeinated coffee prepared.
4.3 Using Milk To prepare frothed or hot milk, insert the milk tube into the milk carton. You can also use a milk suction tube or a milk container. The milk suction tube and milk container must be purchased separately. Always use chilled milk.
4.4 Emptying the Drip Tray and Coffee Ground Container The Drip Tray symbol lights up. After a defined number of coffee preparation cycles, the appliance signals the need to empty the drip tray and the coffee ground container. The protruding float also indicates when the drip tray needs emptying.
The drip tray can be pulled out of the appliance by pulling it forward. Always empty both the drip tray and the coffee ground container. Then push the drip tray back into the appliance as far as it will go. Information! If the drip tray is emptied when the appliance is switched off, the machine will not register this action. Therefore, it may display a prompt to empty the tray even if it is not yet full. The coffee cups should be sufficiently large. The amount of beverage depends on the selected coffee type. The readiness indicator must be lit. Preparation can begin by pressing the corresponding direct selection button. Pay attention to any messages that appear during preparation. Set the desired beverage quantity using the "Coffee Quantity" regulator. Press the selection button again to interrupt coffee preparation. Coffee preparation is immediately interrupted. After preparing milk beverages, the milk system must be cleaned. This prevents the growth of microorganisms harmful to health. The lit "Clean" and "Steam Dispensing" symbols indicate that the milk system needs cleaning. However, you can prepare other milk beverages and then clean the system. 1. Immerse the milk tube in a container with clean tap water (approx. 150 ml). 2. Press and hold the "Frothy Milk" selection button for more than 2 seconds. Observe the instructions in section 7.3, page 163 and section 7.4, page 164.

There must be enough coffee beans in the bean container. The appliance only signals the need to refill beans when the bean container is empty and the appliance signals the need for refilling. To prepare coffee with milk, connect the filled milk container. The appliance does not signal a lack of milk.
5.1 Preparing Two Coffees Simultaneously For each type of coffee, you can prepare two cups at once. To do this, simply press the desired direct selection button twice. The 2x symbol flashes during preparation. For milk-based coffees, the Steam Dispensing symbol also flashes.

After the grinding process is complete, the strength can no longer be changed. The changed coffee strength is also active when preparing subsequent beverages. You can change the beverage quantity by turning the "Coffee Quantity" regulator.
5.3 Setting the Grinding Degree The grinding degree affects the taste of the coffee. The finer the grinding degree, the stronger the coffee. The grinding degree is factory-set to an optimal value. Change the grinding degree setting earliest after 100 coffee dispensing cycles (approx. 1 month, depending on usage intensity). You can set the optimal grinding degree using the "Grinding Degree Setting" lever at the back of the appliance. Set the grinding degree only during the grinding process. Caution! Do not set the coffee grinding degree too finely. The grinding degree is optimally set if the coffee flows evenly from the dispenser and produces a delicate, dense crema.
