FLEX Introduces the GE 6 R-EC and GE 6 X-EC: The Lightest and Most Flexible Long-Neck Sanders
Steinheim, February 2025 – FLEX is setting new standards with the GE 6 R-EC and GE 6 X-EC, presenting the lightest and most flexible long-neck sanders ever. The GE 6 R-EC, the lightest giraffe sander, is now joined by the GE 6 X-EC, offering unparalleled flexibility with its eccentric sanding motion for gentle sanding on various surfaces. GE 6 R-EC: The Lightest Giraffe Sander of All Time
Progress redefined: The FLEX GE 6 R-EC long-neck sander offers 50 percent less weight and 60 percent more power in operation. This makes it the lightest giraffe sander on the market. Featuring a carbon fiber tube, a universal joint for the sanding head, and a 160-degree swivel range, it provides superior ergonomics and efficiency. The GE 6 R-EC boasts a 50 percent reduction in weight during operation and a 60 percent increase in power. GE 6 X-EC: Eccentric Motion for Gentle Sanding on Various Surfaces
Complementing the rotary GE 6 R-EC, FLEX expands its portfolio with the GE 6 X-EC. This model features an eccentric sanding motion, providing exceptionally gentle sanding, making it ideal for various surface materials and sensitive finishes. Weighing just 2.9 kg, this model also sets a new benchmark in the long-neck sander segment.
The sanding head's flat design with a rim segment and universal joint, combined with the best-in-class 160-degree swivel range, allows for exceptionally flexible work. The reduced weight is particularly beneficial for overhead work due to leverage principles. The giraffe's tube is made of carbon fiber, significantly reducing weight and greatly improving ergonomics.
The entire sanding head assembly has been re-engineered by FLEX engineers. The backing pad has been completely redesigned with centering aids for the hook-and-loop sanding pad. An interface pad made of open-pore foam ensures a perfect flat sanding result by preventing vibrations. This design avoids irregularities being transferred to the wall and reduces vibrations in the user's arms and shoulders, leading to cleaner results and improved ergonomics.
Optimized Air-Flow for Ideal Dust Extraction
The optimized air-flow system with a guiding air duct ensures ideal dust extraction. Eliminating edges throughout the housing minimizes residual dust buildup. A brush ring further supports dust extraction. Ralf Paertmann explains, “These three elements – abrasive, sanding pad, and backing pad – must be coordinated to achieve this fine-tuning for clean, optimal air-flow.”
The Decisive Ergonomic Advantage
Beyond the lighter weight, the new FLEX giraffes offer enhanced ergonomics. A user-facing elastic rubber membrane absorbs vibrations and provides better feedback during sanding, resulting in a cleaner, more uniform finish. The flexible shaft means less weight is concentrated on the sanding head, greatly simplifying handling. Combined with the planetary gear for vibration-free and smooth operation, this development significantly boosts ergonomics.
Flexible Shaft for Balanced Handling
FLEX Product Manager Ralf Paertmann elaborates on the improved handling: “A flexible shaft drives the pad, so there’s no heavy weight on the sanding plate; the drive and weight are close to the user. This leads to significantly better handling. This balanced weight distribution is crucial for carrying and application comfort.”
Safety and Quality Through Protected Connections
Additional quality and safety features include protected connections for cables and hoses. For instance, the suction connection is routed downwards and protected, preventing the suction hose from kinking. The switch is also protected, and the spade handle ensures ergonomic and safe handling.
Innovative Technology for Maximum Efficiency
The new GE 6 X-EC incorporates cutting-edge technology, including a wear-free magnetic eddy current brake. Rotation of a metal plate within a magnetic field induces eddy currents, generating a magnetic field that brakes the metal plate without contact, thus ensuring wear-free operation.
