FLEX Introduces New GE 6 R-EC and GE 6 X-EC Long Neck Sanders
Subheading: More Power, Less Weight, and Maximum Flexibility
The World's Lightest Giraffe Sander
Location: Steinheim, February 2025
FLEX is setting new standards with the GE 6 R-EC and GE 6 X-EC, presenting the lightest and most flexible long neck sanders ever. The GE 6 R-EC, the lightest Giraffe sander to date, is a rotary model. Additionally, FLEX is launching the innovative GE 6 X-EC, featuring an orbital sanding motion for gentler sanding on a wide variety of surfaces. These two models offer new best-in-class values in terms of power, weight, ergonomics, and versatility.
GE 6 R-EC: The Lightest Giraffe Ever
This new long neck sander from FLEX boasts 50% less weight and 60% more power, making it the lightest Giraffe on the market. Its carbon fiber tube, universal joint on the sanding head, and 160-degree rotation range provide superior ergonomics and efficiency. Ralf Paertmann, Product Manager at FLEX, states, "The most important criteria for a long neck sander – effective dust extraction, low weight, sanding head flexibility, high removal rate, and ergonomics – are fundamental to our new Giraffes. They represent the perfect solution for craftspeople who value performance combined with maximum ease of use."
GE 6 X-EC: Orbital Motion for Gentle Sanding on Various Surfaces
Alongside the rotary GE 6 R-EC, FLEX expands its range with the GE 6 X-EC, featuring a particularly gentle orbital sanding motion. This makes it ideal for sanding a wide variety of surface materials and offers optimal control for sensitive surfaces. Weighing only 2.9 kg, this model also sets new standards in the long neck sander segment.
Sanding in a New Dimension
The particularly flat design of the sanding head with a pivotable segment and universal joint allows for maximum versatility, complemented by a 160-degree rotation range (best in class!). The significantly reduced weight is highly advantageous, especially when working overhead, due to leverage principles. For the first time, the tube of the new Giraffe is made of carbon fiber, contributing to a substantial weight reduction and a significant improvement in ergonomics. The sanding head has been completely redesigned by FLEX engineers. The backing pad has been redeveloped to ensure central mounting of the sanding pad. A sponge rubber interface pad above absorbs vibrations, ensuring perfect, flat sanding for optimal results and preventing irregularities from being transferred to the wall, as well as reducing user arm and shoulder strain.
Optimized Airflow for Ideal Dust Extraction
The airflow has been optimized with an improved air ducting system for reliable dust extraction. The edge-free housing traps significantly less residual dust. A peripheral brush further supports extraction. Paertmann explains, "These three elements – abrasive, sanding pad, and backing pad – must be perfectly harmonized to achieve clean and optimal airflow."
The Decisive Edge in Ergonomics
The 50% weight reduction of the new FLEX Giraffes contributes to their ergonomic advantage. An elastic rubber membrane on the user side absorbs vibrations and provides better feedback during sanding, leading to cleaner and more uniform results. The flexible shaft places less weight on the sanding head, making the tool easier to handle. Combined with the planetary gear, which ensures smooth operation and low vibration, ergonomics have been a key focus in the design.
Flexible Shaft for Balanced Handling
Paertmann further explains the improved handling: "A flexible shaft drives the pad, so no significant weight is on the sanding plate in front; instead, it's shifted towards the operator. This leads to better handling. This perfect balance is fundamental for high operational comfort and usability."
Safety and Quality Through Protected Connections
Points of attachment for cables and hoses on the new Giraffes are protected, enhancing quality and safety. The suction connection, for example, is directed downwards to prevent the hose from kinking. The switch has also been redesigned, and the spade handle supports ergonomic and secure handling.
Innovative Technology for Maximum Efficiency
The new GE 6 X-EC utilizes advanced technology, including a wear-free magnetic brake. The rotation of a metal plate within a magnetic field induces eddy currents, generating a magnetic field that brakes the metal plate magnetically – without wear, as it is contactless.
