Electrical Installation
The appliance must be plugged into a properly grounded, three-hole single-phase 120 VAC - 60 Hz, 15 amp electrical outlet.
House wiring and fusing must comply with local codes or the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.
The three-prong grounding plug protects against shock hazards. DO NOT CUT OR REMOVE THE THIRD GROUNDING PRONG.
If an ungrounded outlet is encountered, the owner must replace it with a properly grounded three-hole outlet.
The flexible cable should be routed to permit temporary removal of the appliance for service. It must not be shortened.
The electric cable must be locked to the terminal box. Connect the line cable to terminal “L”, the neutral cable to terminal “N”, and the yellow/green cable to the ground terminal (Fig. 09). The yellow/green cable should be at least 20 mm (¾”) longer than the others. Ensure the electric cable does not pass near or contact surfaces above 75°C (167°F).
Grounding:
- The appliance requires a ground connection for shock hazard protection and must be connected directly into a properly grounded receptacle.
- To change the flexible cord: Turn off the main gas shut-off valve and disconnect electrical supply. Pull the range out. Disconnect the gas supply. Open the terminal block cover. Open the flexible cord lock, loosen old cord prongs, and remove. Connect new cord prongs to the terminal block and secure the cord lock. The ground wire (yellow/green) must be about one inch longer than the others. Follow terminal block signs for line and neutral connections. Ensure the flexible cord is held tight by the cord lock and its path does not contact hot surfaces.
Gas Supply
Installation must conform to local codes or the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1. In Canada, follow CAN/CSA B149 codes.
A trained serviceman or installer must make the gas supply connection and perform leak testing.
Natural gas supply lines require a natural service regulator; inlet pressure should be max 7 inches water column (W.C.). LP/Propane lines require an LP gas pressure regulator; inlet pressure should be max 14 inches W.C.
Excessive inlet pressure can damage the regulator and other gas components, potentially causing a gas leak.
Gas Connection Steps:
- Install an accessible manual gas valve upstream of the appliance.
- Use flexible or semi-rigid metal connectors with provided adapters if connecting to house piping. Ensure connector nuts are not directly connected to pipe threads.
- House piping and connectors must be clean and free of debris.
CAUTION: Do not lift or move the oven by the door handle.
- Turn off all pilots and main gas valves of other gas appliances.
- Turn off the main gas valve at the meter.
- Apply LPG-approved pipe thread compound to all threads before connecting.
- Connect the range to the gas supply at the appliance pressure regulator using adapters. Rigid pipe may also be used. Refer to the rating plate for the gas type.
- Turn on the main gas valve at the meter and relight pilots of other gas appliances.
- Apply non-corrosive leak detection fluid to all gas connection joints and fittings. Check for leaks; bubbles indicate a leak. If a leak is found, turn off the gas supply, tighten connections, turn the supply back on, and retest.
CAUTION: Never check for leaks with an open flame. Wipe off residue after testing.
Remove shipping polystyrene from the oven cavity.
Checking Pressure of House Piping System
The appliance and its shut-off valve must be disconnected from the gas supply piping system during pressure testing if the test pressure exceeds ½ lbs./sq. in. (3.5 kPa or 13.8 in. water column). If testing at or below this pressure, isolate the appliance by closing its manual shut-off valve.
Gas Conversion
All ranges are equipped with Natural Gas and LP Gas injectors and a convertible pressure regulator. The unit model number plate indicates the factory setting. Conversion involves switching burner injectors, adjusting the burner for low flame, and adjusting the pressure regulator cap. Refer to the chart on page 14 for inlet pressure specifications.
To convert the appliance pressure regulator: Remove the cap, push down, turn counter-clockwise, flip the cap, and reinstall, aligning with NAT or LP indicator (Fig. 12).
Gas Type | PRESSURE (Inches of Water Column) | |
---|---|---|
Minimum | Maximum | |
Natural gas | 4 | 7 |
LP gas | 11 | 14 |
NOTE: The gas type conversion must be visible on the regulator cap.
Operating Your Gas Oven
NOTE: Before first use, clean the oven interior with soapy water and dry thoroughly. Set the oven thermostat to bake at 350°F for one hour.
Gas Oven Ignition, Regulation, and Thermostat
Open the oven door. Turn the thermostat knob counter-clockwise to MAX. After a few seconds, the burner will light. Release the knob and set to the desired temperature.
NOTE: During first use or after long inactivity, the burner may not ignite immediately. Retry the procedure. If the problem persists, call an authorized technician.
For low setting regulation from Natural to LP gas, first convert the gas regulator (pages 13-14), preheat the burner for 5 minutes, and follow instructions in the Low Setting Valve Adjustment section (page 14).
