Notes on Towing Capacity:
- Some states, territories, and provinces require trailers exceeding a certain weight to be equipped with electric brakes. Consult applicable regulations for this weight.
- WARNING: Do not tow a trailer equipped with electric brakes if your vehicle is not equipped with a compatible aftermarket electric trailer brake controller. Failure to do so may result in loss of vehicle control, injury, or death. For more information or assistance, contact an authorized dealer.
- The combined weight of the vehicle and trailer must not exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).
- Do not exceed the maximum trailer weight in operation.
- Calculated in accordance with SAE J2807 test standard for the Escape.
Mandatory Equipment for Towing
Certain components are required for towing. Failure to install these items may void your new vehicle limited warranty.
- For trailers over 2,000 lb: Class II Towing Package (536) is required.
Frontal Surface Restrictions
Frontal surface refers to the total area a vehicle and trailer expose to wind resistance when moving. The maximum frontal surface to consider for an Escape-trailer combination is 20 sq ft without the Class II Towing Package and 30 sq ft with the Class II Towing Package. Exceeding these limits can significantly reduce the towing vehicle's performance.
