Battery Information

The camera uses four AA alkaline, nickel-metal hydride, lithium, or nickel-cadmium batteries.

Manganese batteries cannot be used, as they have a short lifespan and may cause damage to the unit due to battery heat generation.

Use batteries correctly. Incorrect usage can lead to leakage, overheating, or damage. When replacing batteries, ensure the +/- polarity is correctly aligned.

Battery performance may temporarily decrease in cold temperatures. In cold climates, keep the camera warm inside clothing or a bag. Batteries that have lost performance in the cold will recover at normal temperatures.

Sweat or oil on the battery terminals can cause poor contact. Wipe them clean with a dry cloth before use.

For extended trips, it is recommended to have spare batteries, as they may be difficult to obtain in some regions, especially overseas.

When using nickel-metal hydride or nickel-cadmium batteries, fully charge them using the specified charger before use.

For nickel-metal hydride and nickel-cadmium batteries, read the instructions for the batteries and charger carefully and use them correctly.

⚠️ Warning:

  • Risk of fire, electric shock, or burns.
  • Always use AC 100V power.
  • The AC adapter (C-6AC/C-5AC) is for use in Japan only. Do not use it overseas.
  • Do not use the AC adapter if the plug is not fully inserted.
  • Never handle the AC adapter plug with wet hands.
  • If the AC adapter or cord becomes hot, smells burnt, or emits smoke, immediately unplug it from the power outlet, discontinue use, and contact your dealer or service station.
  • Do not use any AC adapter other than the specified Olympus adapter (with EIAJ standard, polarity-unified plug). Using unauthorized adapters may cause camera or power supply damage or accidents. Olympus is not responsible for damage caused by unauthorized adapters.
  • When unplugging the AC adapter, always pull by the adapter body, not the cord.
  • Do not pull, bend, twist, or extend the AC adapter cord.
  • If the AC adapter cord is damaged, frayed, or the plug has poor contact, consult your dealer immediately.
  • Always ensure the camera power is OFF before connecting or disconnecting the AC adapter. This also applies if batteries are installed.
  • Unplug the AC adapter from the outlet when not in use.

Note: Connecting the AC adapter for extended periods may cause the adapter body to become slightly warm, but this is not a malfunction.

Inserting SmartMedia

SmartMedia (referred to as "card" hereafter) should be inserted as shown in the diagram.

  • Functional SmartMedia (sold separately) is inserted in the same way.
  • Commercial 5V cards cannot be used. Use our cards or commercial 3.3V cards.
  • If using a commercial 3.3V card, initialization via the camera is recommended.

❗ Caution: Never open the card cover, remove the card or batteries, or unplug the power while the digital camera is operating. This can corrupt data on the card.

Cards are precision instruments. Do not apply excessive force or shock.

Turning On the Power
