Instructions for OBDCheck BLE+
Quick Setup Guide with Car Scanner ELM OBD2
For iOS Devices (iPhone/iPad)
Step 1: Install APP
Install an app from the Apple App Store, such as 'Car Scanner ELM OBD2' (free).
Step 2: Install Device
Plug the Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ device into your vehicle's OBD2 port and turn the car ignition ON.
Step 3: Important Connection Note for iOS
On your iPhone/iPad, navigate to Settings > Bluetooth. You will see 'VEEPEAK' listed under 'Other Devices'. Crucially, do NOT connect to 'VEEPEAK' here. Bluetooth LE devices do not require standard Bluetooth pairing. No action is needed in this menu.
Step 4: Connect via App
Open the 'Car Scanner ELM OBD2' app. Within the app's connection settings, select 'VEEPEAK' as the Bluetooth device. The app will establish the Bluetooth connection.
For Android Phone/Tablet
Step 1: Install APP
Install an app from the Google Play Store, such as 'Car Scanner ELM OBD2' (free).
Step 2: Install Device
Plug the Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ device into your vehicle's OBD2 port and turn the car ignition ON.
Step 3: Pair with VEEPEAK
On your Android phone/tablet, go to Bluetooth settings. You will see a prompt to pair with 'VEEPEAK'. Enter the PIN '1234' when requested. You may also be asked to allow access to contacts and call history.
Step 4: Connect via App
Open the 'Car Scanner ELM OBD2' app. Within the app's connection settings, select 'VEEPEAK' as the Bluetooth device. The app will establish the Bluetooth connection.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Is there an App included with the device?
No, but many third-party OBD2 apps are available for download from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Some apps may require purchase. For generic OBD2 functions, Veepeak recommends apps like Torque Lite (or paid Pro for Android), Car Scanner ELM OBD2, OBD Fusion, or Inforcar. These apps typically cost between free and $10, though some specialized apps may have subscriptions or higher costs.
2. Does it work with iOS iPhone or iPad?
Yes, the OBDCheck BLE+ is compatible with Apple iOS devices using Bluetooth LE. It is important NOT to pair or connect via the iOS Bluetooth Settings. Instead, initiate the connection directly within the compatible OBD2 app. The device does not use WiFi.
3. Is it compatible with Android head units?
The OBDCheck BLE+ works with Android phones and tablets. However, some Android head units may experience compatibility issues due to limitations in their Bluetooth profile support. Veepeak does not maintain a compatibility list due to the market's complexity. If you encounter issues with an Android head unit, try changing the default Bluetooth pairing PIN to '1234' in the head unit's settings. If the problem persists, contact the head unit manufacturer for assistance.
4. Can I leave the device plugged in all the time?
The adapter can be left plugged in for a few days, provided your car battery is in good condition and the vehicle is driven regularly. If the car will be stationary for more than one week, it is strongly recommended to remove the device.
5. Does it work with EVs?
Most Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) do not utilize standard OBD II protocols. For these vehicles, you will need a compatible app that supports specific EV protocols. Examples include Car Scanner ELM OBD2 (ensure the correct connection profile is selected), ABRP, LeafSpy, EV Watchdog, MyGreenVolt, and CanZE.
6. Can it read or reset ABS, airbag, or other non-Check Engine lights?
Most generic OBD2 apps provide basic diagnostics for check engine lights only. To read or reset ABS, airbag, or other module lights, you will need a specialized app capable of enhanced diagnostics for your specific vehicle. Examples include OBD Fusion, OBD JScan, AlfaOBD, and Carista OBD. If unsure, contact Veepeak or the app developer. Note that oil change or maintenance required indicators cannot be read or reset as they do not generate error codes.
7. Which sensor data can I get?
The available parameters depend on the OBDII system installed by the vehicle manufacturer. Refer to OBD II PIDs (Parameter IDs) on Wikipedia for detailed information. Newer vehicles generally provide more readings and faster data refresh rates.
8. Does it read transmission temperature?
Transmission fluid temperature is typically a manufacturer-specific PID and may not be accessible by most generic OBD2 apps. For app recommendations or to find custom PID information for your vehicle, contact Veepeak customer support or search online and add the custom PID to your app. This applies to other manufacturer-specific PIDs as well.
9. Does it support coding of BMW G series?
The OBDCheck BLE+ currently does not support all coding functions available in BimmerCode for BMW G series vehicles. Veepeak is working on expanding compatibility. For now, consider using an ENET WiFi Adapter or other adapters recommended by BimmerCode.
Troubleshooting Guide
1. Could not pair my phone with “VEEPEAK”. (Android)
Please try the following steps:
- Turn off Bluetooth, then turn it back on. Attempt pairing a few more times.
- Restart your phone. Temporarily disable WiFi and cellular data, then try pairing again.
- Clear Bluetooth cache and storage: Navigate to Settings > Apps (show system) > Bluetooth > Storage & Cache. Clear the data and restart your phone. (Note: The exact path may vary slightly depending on your Android device brand.)
2. When I try to connect “VEEPEAK” with my iPhone, it tells me it is not supported.
On iOS devices, this error may appear if you attempt to pair with Bluetooth LE devices directly from the Bluetooth Settings. You do not need to connect via iOS Bluetooth Settings. Restart your iOS device. 'VEEPEAK' should reappear in the Bluetooth list. Then, open the compatible OBD2 app and initiate the connection from within the app.
3. Device not power up (no blue light).
First, check if your vehicle's cigar lighter fuse is intact. You can also test the device in another vehicle to confirm functionality.
4. Device powers up, but “VEEPEAK” is not showing up on my phone's Bluetooth device list.
Ensure the device is not currently connected to other phones or tablets. Turn off your phone's Bluetooth, then turn it back on. Refresh the Bluetooth device list and wait a few moments.
5. “VEEPEAK” quickly disconnects or does not show as connected after pairing.
If the device is paired via Bluetooth, you can typically start the compatible OBD2 app to connect. On some Android phones, it might appear as 'saved', 'paired', or 'previously connected', but it is still actively connected.
6. App not connecting to OBD II Device (ELM connection fails).
Verify that the app you are using is compatible with the OBDCheck BLE+ and that you have configured the app's connection settings correctly and granted necessary permissions. Try removing and reinstalling the app, especially after an operating system update. If issues persist, try using a different compatible app.
7. Cannot connect to vehicle (ECU connection fails).
Ensure your vehicle is OBD2 compliant (typically 1996+ model year in the US, 2001+ petrol or 2004+ diesel in EU & UK). Note that commercial vehicles may not be compatible. Confirm that your vehicle is supported by the chosen app and follow its specific connection instructions (e.g., BimmerCode). Ensure the vehicle's ignition is ON or the engine is started. Check that the OBDCheck BLE+ device is firmly seated in the OBD2 port; you may need to push it slightly harder. If possible, test the device in another vehicle.
If you cannot resolve the issue after following these troubleshooting steps, please contact Veepeak customer support at support@veepeak.com for assistance or to arrange for a replacement.
