Features

Product Diagram Description: The jump starter unit features a main body with controls, a compressor outlet, a carry handle, and integrated storage for accessories. Numbered callouts on the unit indicate specific components such as the compressor on/off switch, air hose, pressure gauge, heavy-duty clamps, LED area light button, reverse polarity indicator, jump-starter power switch, battery status pushbutton, and charging socket.

Charging the Unit

This unit is shipped in a partially charged state.

Lead-acid batteries require routine maintenance to ensure a full charge and a long battery life. All batteries lose energy from self-discharge over time and more rapidly at higher temperatures. When the unit is not in use, Black & Decker recommend that the battery is charged at least every 30 days.

Note: Charging the battery after each use will prolong the battery life; frequent heavy discharges between charges and/or overcharging will reduce battery life.

Important! When the battery is overly discharged and if the green LED is lit when the charger is plugged in, this indicates the battery is at a high impedance stage. In this event, recharge the unit and leave the unit charging for a period of 24-48 hours before use.

Charging the Unit with the Mains Charger

Make sure that the jump-starter power switch and the LED area light are turned off while the unit is being charged. As charging progresses, the battery status LED indicators will light one by one.

Note: The mains charging adapter should not be connected for more than 60 hours.

Using the Jump-Starter

❗ Caution! To reduce the risk of property damage:

  1. Turn off the vehicle's ignition and all accessories before making any connections.
  2. Make sure that the jump-starter power switch is turned off.
  3. Check polarity of battery posts. Positive (POS, P, +) battery post usually has a larger diameter than the negative (NEG, N, -) post.
  4. Determine which post of the battery is grounded (connected to the chassis). If the negative post is grounded (as in most vehicles), see step 5. If the positive post is grounded, see step 6.
  5. For a negative-grounded vehicle: Connect the positive (red) clamp from the battery charger to the positive (POS, P, +) ungrounded post of the battery. Connect the negative (black) clamp to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.
  6. For a positive-grounded vehicle: Connect the negative (black) clamp from the battery charger to the negative (NEG, N, -) ungrounded post of the battery. Connect the positive (red) clamp to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.

Important! If the connections to the battery's positive and negative terminals are incorrect, the Reverse Polarity Indicator will light and the unit will sound a continuous alarm until the clamps are disconnected. Disconnect clamps and reconnect to the battery with the correct polarity.

  1. Turn the jump-starter power switch to the ON position.
  2. Start the vehicle and crank the engine in 3 to 6 second bursts.

Important! If the engine doesn't start within 6 seconds, let the unit's internal battery cool for 3 minutes before making another attempt.

  1. When the vehicle starts, turn the jump-starter off/on switch to the OFF position.
  2. Leave the vehicle's engine running.
  3. Disconnect the clamp connected to the engine block or chassis first, followed by the clamp that is connected to the battery.

Recharge this unit fully after each use.

❗ Caution! To reduce the risk of property damage:

Using the LED Area Light

Make sure the area light is turned off when the unit is being recharged or stored.

Using the Portable Compressor

The built-in 12 volt DC compressor is ideal for all vehicle tires, trailer tires, and recreational inflatables. The compressor can operate long enough to fill up to 3 average-sized tires before the battery must be recharged.

Return the hose to the storage compartment and recharge this unit fully after each use.

Inflating Tires or Products with Valve Stems

  1. Screw the SureFit™ nozzle onto the valve stem. Do not overtighten.
  2. Turn on the compressor power switch.
  3. Check pressure with the pressure gauge.
  4. When desired pressure is reached, turn off the compressor power switch.
  5. Unscrew and remove the SureFit™ nozzle from the valve stem.
  6. Allow the unit to cool, then recharge before storing away.
  7. Store the compressor hose and SureFit™ nozzle in the storage compartment.

Inflating Other Inflatables Without Valve Stems

Inflation of other items requires use of the nozzle adapter.

  1. Screw the adapter into the SureFit™ nozzle. Do not overtighten.
  2. Insert the adapter into the item to be inflated.
  3. Turn on the compressor power switch – inflate to desired pressure or fullness. Important! Small items such as volleyballs, footballs, etc., inflate very rapidly. Do not over-inflate.
  4. When desired pressure is reached, turn off the compressor power switch.
  5. Disconnect the adapter from the inflated item.
  6. Unscrew and remove the adapter from the SureFit™ nozzle.
  7. Allow the unit to cool, then recharge before storing away.
  8. Store the compressor hose, SureFit™ nozzle, and adapter in the storage compartment.

Recharge this unit fully after each use.
