Product Overview

The Black+Decker BC15BD and BC25BD are high-frequency smart chargers designed for various battery charging and maintenance needs. They feature an LCD screen for status and function information, a mode selection control panel, and indicators for battery status and potential issues.

Main Display and Controls: The unit features a digital display showing voltage, amperage, and seconds. It includes indicators for surrounding temperature (high and low), an overheat alarm, and a battery charge gauge. The mode selection control panel allows users to choose between Battery Voltage, Battery Recondition, Engine Start, and Alternator Check functions. An LCD screen provides status updates and function information with easy-to-read icons.

Key Functions and Indicators

  • Battery Charge: Press to start charging your battery. The unit senses baseline voltage to engage charging mode. If insufficient voltage is detected, it enters reconditioning mode.
  • Engine Start: Delivers concentrated, high amperage charging for a 40-second period to start your vehicle. This is not a jump-starting function. A timer displays after engagement.
  • Alternator Check: Engages a process to determine the functionality of your vehicle's internal electrical system. Consult the Instruction Manual for detailed steps.
  • Battery Recondition: Initiates a 24-hour cycle with intermittent high-frequency pulses to reduce battery corrosion. This is not guaranteed to ensure charging.
Indicator Icons and Status: The unit uses icons to display status. Solid Icons indicate: Unit is fully charged, Reverse Polarity connection, Engine Start Activated, and Alternator Check Completed. Flashing Icons indicate: Unit is charging, Battery Recondition, and Ready to Jump-start (though the unit explicitly states it is NOT a jump-starting function, this is listed under flashing indicators). The Alternator Check Activated is also indicated by a flashing icon.

Operational Notes

  • Reverse Polarity Alarm: An audible alarm and LCD display indicate reverse polarity connection. Do not activate the unit. Disconnect clamps and reconnect with proper polarity, ensuring a firm and clean connection for the grounded clamp.
  • Battery Reconditioning: If a battery does not charge after one reconditioning cycle, discontinue charging.
