This manual provides information on the MRCP9685A receiver, offering Bluetooth connectivity, MP3 compatibility, AM/FM reception, and a 6.75-inch capacitive touchscreen. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Front Detail
The front panel features the following controls:
- 1. Mute/Screen Off: Touch to mute audio or turn off the display.
- 2. Volume Control: Touch '+' or '-' to adjust volume. Touch and hold for quicker operation.
- 3. Siri Button: Touch to activate Siri (requires active CarPlay connection).
- 4. Power/Home: Touch once to power ON, touch and hold for Standby.
- 5. System Reset: A pin-hole button for system reset.
Rear Detail
The rear panel includes the following ports:

Product Basics
- Mute: Touch the speaker icon ? to mute.
- Volume: Touch '+' or '-' to adjust. Touch and hold for quicker adjustment.
- Siri: Touch the Siri icon ? to command. Note: CarPlay must be active.
- Display Off/On: Touch and hold the Mute icon ? to turn the display off. Touch the display to reactivate.
- Power On/Standby: Touch the power icon once to power ON. Touch and hold for Standby. In Standby mode, the LED will slowly pulse.
Using and Caring for the Touchscreen
This head unit uses a Capacitive Touchscreen, similar to high-end mobile devices. For proper function, avoid using it with wet or sweaty fingers. Do not allow sharp objects to contact the screen.
Care and Cleaning: Clean the screen using a dry microfiber cloth only. Do not use ammonia, window cleaner, or other household chemicals. Abrasives should not be used.
Product Setup (Date & Time)
Setup Option A: CarPlay Method
Connect your Apple device using a Lightning® cable to the CarPlay USB port. This will automatically set the time and date. You must set the Time Zone manually (Default is Pacific Time Zone).
Setup Option B: Date and Time
Navigate to General > Date & Time to set manually.
Additional Setup:
Access General > Language, Audio > EQ, and Display > Illumination, Brightness, LED settings as needed.
Navigating the Menus
The system allows navigation between various functions:
- From the Home screen, you can access Media, Camera, AV IN, Radio, Android Auto, Hands-free, and Settings.
- Apple CarPlay is accessed via its dedicated icon.
- Within each section, specific controls and sub-menus are available. For example, within Radio, you can tune stations, access presets, and adjust settings.
Connectivity Features
Apple CarPlay
Apple CarPlay usage is limited while driving. Functions, content, and usability are determined by the App provider. Controls vary by App.
Connecting to CarPlay USB Port:
- Connect your CarPlay compatible device via a Lightning cable (not included).
- The iPhone will load the CarPlay function.
- On the display, the CarPlay icon will illuminate green; touch it to enter the CarPlay menu.
- To return to the product Home menu, touch the BOSS AUDIO SYSTEMS logo.
Note: The product's Bluetooth will turn OFF automatically when CarPlay is in use. Hands-free phoning will function through the CarPlay feature. Pairing your iPhone via USB cable eliminates the need for Bluetooth pairing for CarPlay. Other Bluetooth devices will be disconnected during CarPlay use.
Gestures & Control: Basic controls include Touch, Swipe, and Dragging. Other gestures may differ by App. Volume control is handled exclusively by the product.
CarPlay Display Setup: On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > General > CarPlay. Touch and hold each App icon to move or remove them. Apps with the ? icon can be added or removed.
How to Disable Apps: On your iPhone, go to Settings > Notifications > [App Name] to disable notifications or customize display settings.

Android Auto
Android Auto usage is limited while driving. Functions, content, and usability are determined by the App provider. Controls vary by App.
WARNING: For your safety, setup MUST be accomplished while the vehicle is Parked and Parking Brake Engaged.
Android Auto App: Download the Android Auto app from Google Play on your Android device.
Minimum Requirements: Android 5.0 Lollipop. For a list of compatible devices, visit: https://www.android.com/auto/
Connecting to Android Auto USB Port:
- Connect the Android compatible device via the appropriate USB cable (not included).
- The device will load the Android Auto function.
- Bluetooth will connect automatically when setup is completed.
- Touch the Home icon to return to the product Home menu.
Note: To complete setup properly, the Parking Brake status wire must be connected.
Android Auto Permissions: Features can be allowed or denied in Settings on the Android device to customize usability.
Bluetooth®
Setup & Connection
Hands-Free Menu:
Pairing:
- Ensure CarPlay is not active. If it is, disconnect the iPhone to enable Bluetooth.
- On your mobile device, search for "BOSS AUDIO MRCP9685A".
- iOS Devices: Settings > Bluetooth.
- Android Devices: Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
A passcode will be generated and displayed on both the head unit and mobile device for secure pairing.
Note: Compatibility with all mobile devices is not guaranteed. Consult your mobile device's user guide.
CAUTION: For safety, setup should be done while parked with the parking brake engaged.
Once paired and connected, the device list will display available Bluetooth profiles (e.g., HFP, A2DP). The device will automatically connect when powered on and in range.
Battery and Cellular Strength are displayed on the top right of the Home menu.
Calling
Making & Receiving Calls:
- Dialing from the dial pad: Touch the dial pad icon ? to make a call.
- Contacts: Touch the contact name to make a call. Choose the name, then touch to initiate.
- History: To find a call, touch the History icon.
- To End a call: Touch the end call icon ?.
- To Mute a call: Touch the mute icon ?.
- Dial pad: Touch the dial pad icon ? to use it during a call.
- Private Mode: When a call needs to be transferred to the mobile device, touch the mobile device icon ? to switch. Touch the return icon ? to return to hands-free mode.
Searching History: Swipe Up or Down to search.
Searching Contacts: Contacts must be downloaded to search. Touch Contacts, enter the name, then touch OK.
Audio Streaming
To play media through Bluetooth, the mobile device must be paired and connected to the MRCP9685A.
Playback: Touch the Media Player icon. The music will play automatically.
Track Control:
- Play/Pause: ▶️⏸️
- Track Fwd / Rev: ⏩⏪
- Swipe to Fwd/Rev
Note: For best performance, set your mobile device volume to maximum. All volume adjustments should be controlled from the product. The unit recalls the last volume setting on your mobile device each time it connects.
Formats: Playback is supported from the mobile device with any format it can play. Audio will only be played by the product; video cannot be viewed on the unit.
Switching Media: Available sources (Bluetooth and USB) will display. USB source is shown only if a USB drive is inserted with playable media.
Display: Track, Album, and Artist information will be displayed. Album art is not supported via Bluetooth playback.
Media

Touch the Media Player icon. The music will play automatically.

Navigating Menu: To browse contents, Swipe. To return to the current file playing, Touch ▶️.
WARNING: Watching videos or photos while driving is against Federal, State, and Local laws. Do not use features if they cannot be operated safely and legally.
Note: Review connections to properly integrate the parking brake wire. Video and photos can only be viewed when the vehicle is stationary and the parking brake is applied.
If other files are present on the USB, music files will play first.
Radio
AM/FM
Controls: The main radio screen displays tuning, band selection, and settings.
Tuning: To search for stations, Touch and Hold the seek buttons ⏪⏩. Manual Seek is done by touching the seek buttons.
Auto Search & Store: Touch the Auto Search & Store icon ?➡️ to automatically find and store stations.
Note: RBDS info (if available) and the currently tuned station will display on the radio icon. Not all stations will have RBDS info.
Band & Settings: Touch FM to switch bands. Touch the Settings icon ⚙️ to change radio settings.
Favorites and Presets: Touch the Favorites icon ⭐ to select stored stations.
Stereo/Mono: Touch the Stereo/Mono icon ?/? to turn on/off stereo when receiving a stereo signal.
Changing Presets: Touch the preset buttons ⏪⏩ to cycle through stored stations.
To return to the Tuner screen, Touch the Tuner icon.
To remove a favorite, Touch and hold the favorite station.
AV In/Camera
External Source
Playback: Media must be controlled from the external device. Track functions are not controlled by the product.
Note: To adjust the volume level properly, set the carry-in device volume between 50%-75%. Maintain this level for the duration of the connection.
Camera
WARNING: Never rely solely on the rear view camera; always check your surroundings before proceeding.
Images may appear reversed.
Rear View: The rear view camera can be displayed on demand. Touch the Camera icon ?.
Reverse View: When the vehicle is put into reverse gear, the camera will display the image on the screen. [CHECK SURROUNDINGS BEFORE PROCEEDING]
Rear View Delay: Settings (0 Sec, 0.1 Sec, 0.5 Sec, 1 Sec, 2 Sec) allow adjustment for when the camera triggers. The camera should not trigger when switching from Park to Drive. Sensitivity should be adjusted to trigger only on reverse gear selector.
Note: The rear view camera will still function normally if the product is in standby mode.
Settings
General
- System Language: Touch to change. Options: English (Default), Spanish.
- Note: CarPlay is independent of the system language setting.
- Time Zone: Adjust to correctly display time. Default Setting: (GMT-08:00) Pacific Time (US&Canada).
- Date & Time: Set 24H Mode (Toggle ON/OFF).
- Auto Adjust Daylight Saving: Toggle ON/OFF.
- System Tone: Toggle ON/OFF.
- Power Off Delay: For vehicles that may interrupt accessory power during crank. Options: 1, 2, or 3 sec. Default: OFF. Note: This might affect hands-free functionality during a call.
- Factory Settings: Touch to restore settings to default. CAUTION: Will restore all settings to factory defaults. All settings and presets will be lost.
Audio
- EQ: Access the EQ settings. Preset EQ options include JAZZ, HIPHOP, POP, ROCK, R&B. EQ Bands are adjustable (32, 63, 125, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1KHz, 2KHz, 4KHz, 8KHz, 16KHz) with ± 6 dB Boost/Cut.
- Balance/Fader: Adjust Left/Right Balance and Front/Rear Fader.
- Subwoofer: Adjust Subwoofer Level (+/- 14dB) and select Subwoofer LPF (50 Hz, 80 Hz, 120 Hz, 160 Hz).
- Loudness: Toggle ON/OFF for enhanced bass and treble at low volumes.
- Internal Amp: Toggle ON/OFF. Turn OFF if pre-amp outputs are used exclusively to reduce the possibility of noise entering the signal chain.
- Volume: Settings are for default volumes for Media, Navigation, Phone, etc.
- Source Level: Adjust levels for different sources like Media, AV Input, CarPlay, Android Auto, Video.
Display
- Illumination Control: Toggle ON/OFF. Customizes illumination for night use when vehicle lights are on.
- Gamma: Adjust for day and night settings.
- Screen Brightness: Adjust for day and night settings.
- LED Touch Buttons: Choose from six preset colors or select custom colors.
- LED Brightness: Adjust for day and night settings.
- LED Animation: Cycles through all colors on LED touch buttons. Default: ON.
- UI Settings:
- Wallpaper: Change the background picture by inserting a USB with photos.
- Background Brightness: Adjust the brightness of the wallpaper.
Bluetooth
- Connection: Power On/Off Bluetooth. Default: ON.
- Note: Bluetooth turns OFF automatically when CarPlay is in use. Other connected Bluetooth devices will be disconnected.
- Auto Connect: Toggle ON/OFF. Automatically connects to the device when the product is powered ON. Default: ON.
- Auto Answer: Toggle ON/OFF. Automatically answers incoming calls. Default: OFF.
Camera
- Rear View Delay: Settings include 0 Sec (Default), 0.1 Sec, 0.5 Sec, 1 Sec, 2 Sec. Adjust to prevent camera triggering when switching from Park to Drive. Sensitivity can be adjusted to trigger only on reverse gear selector.
Radio
- Region: Default Setting: USA 2. Options for US and European tuner spacing.
- RBDS, Radio Broadcast Data System: Toggle ON/OFF. Default: ON. Allows radio station information to be displayed.
- AF (Alternative Frequency): Toggle ON/OFF. Default: OFF. When ON, the tuner automatically locates the same tuning program on other stations and selects the strongest signal.
- TA (Traffic Announcement): Toggle ON/OFF. Default: OFF. The radio automatically tunes into traffic information broadcasts while receiving FM broadcasts or playing media.
Connections
Power/SWC/MIC
CAUTION: It is recommended to have the product installed by a certified installation professional.
CAUTION: Before installation or wiring, disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent damage or injury.
Note: Unused input/output wires need to be insulated with tape, heat shrink, or crimp connectors. Never use wire nuts.

- Blue/Wht: Rem. Output (+12V, 500 mA)
Note: A separate interface might be needed for your vehicle. Consult a professional installer.
Note: When replacing the fuse, use the same type and value (15A).
Speakers
CAUTION: Do not chassis ground any speaker wire leads. Only use 4-8 Ω Speakers. Do not use 1-3 Ω Speakers. Do not bridge any channels; wire in stereo mode only.
Note: Unused speaker wires need insulation. Observe speaker polarity. If speaker outputs are unused, turn OFF the internal amp to reduce noise.
Wiring:
- Rear Right (Ch. 4): Purple (+), Purple/Black (-)
- Front Right (Ch. 2): Gray (+), Gray/Black (-)
- Front Left (Ch. 1): White (+), White/Black (-)
- Rear Left (Ch. 3): Green (+), Green/Black (-)
Audio Pre-amp/AV IN/ Radio
Note: Subwoofer Pre-amp is a non-fading mono output. Always run signal wires away from power cables to reduce noise.
Ports: Pre-Amp Output, AV Input, AM/FM Antenna.
Note: If pre-amp outputs are used exclusively, turn OFF the internal amp to reduce noise.
Camera / USB
WARNING: Never rely solely on the rear view camera; always check surroundings. Images may appear reversed. Do not use features if they cannot be operated safely and legally.
Ports: Camera Input, USB2 (Charging/Playback), USB1 (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto).
Note: Android device & iOS device playback is not supported from USB port 1.
Parking Brake
WARNING: Improper connection or use of the parking brake status wire (defeating the safety feature) violates laws and may lead to injury or death.
WARNING: Watching videos or photos while driving is against Federal, State, and Local laws.
Note: For Android Auto setup, the parking brake status wire MUST be connected. Review connections for proper integration. Video and photos cannot be viewed while driving; the vehicle must be stationary with the parking brake applied.
Wiring: Lt. Green, Parking Brake Input.
Note: The parking brake input needs to be connected to the power side of the parking brake. Consult a certified professional installer for vehicle-specific connections.
Hands-free Mic
Placement: Recommended locations are indicated by red shaded areas. Performance varies by vehicle.
Items to look for before placement:
- Do not place in front of air vents.
- If tweeters are on sail panels, do NOT locate the mic on the steering column area.
- Front of mic must not be blocked.
- Mic should be firmly attached.
- Do not cover grille openings surrounding the mic.
- To avoid wind noise, do not place near the sunroof opening.
WARNING: Run microphone wire where it will NOT impede the operation of any safety items, e.g., Airbags.
Troubleshooting
