Starting the Dryer
Close the dryer door. Select Start. Opening the door during operation will stop the dryer. To restart, close the door and select Start.
Note: Drying times vary based on heat type (Electric, Natural, LP gas), load size, fabric types, wetness, and exhaust duct condition.
About the Dryer Features
Sensor Dry
This feature is active in all cycles except Timed Dry, Warm Up, and Air Fluff. Sensor Dry provides greater drying accuracy than standard machines, resulting in shorter dry times and better clothes care. A moisture sensor stops the heating cycle when clothes reach selected dryness. The dryer adjusts estimated drying time based on usage profile; allow several weeks for customization.
Drum Lamp
To replace the light bulb: Unplug the dryer or disconnect power at the distribution panel. Reach above the dryer opening inside the drum. Remove and replace the bulb with the same size.
Drying Rack
A drying rack can be used for delicate items like washable sweaters. Hook the rack over the lint filter so it extends into the dryer drum. Note: The drying rack must be used with the Timed Cycle and not when other clothes are in the dryer.
Alloy Steel Drum
The alloy steel drum provides high reliability. Scratches or dents during normal use will not cause rust or corrosion and do not affect drum function or durability.
About Loading and Using the Dryer
Sorting and Loading Hints
Sort clothes properly for the dryer as you would for the washer. Do not add fabric softener sheets once the load is warm, as they may cause stains. Bounce® Fabric Conditioner Dryer Sheets are approved for GE Dryers when used per instructions.
Do not overload; it wastes energy and causes wrinkling. Do not dry items like fiberglass, woolens, rubber-coated items, plastics, items with plastic trim, or foam-filled items.
Fabric Care Labels
Follow fabric manufacturer's care labels. Symbols indicate washing and drying instructions:
Wash Labels:
- Machine Wash (symbols for normal, permanent press/wrinkle resistant, gentle/delicate)
- Water Temperature (symbols for hot, warm, cold/cool)
Dry Labels:
- Tumble Dry (symbols for normal, permanent press/wrinkle resistant, gentle/delicate)
- Do not tumble dry
- Do not dry (used with do not wash)
- Heat Setting (symbols for high, medium, low, no heat/air)
Bleach Labels:
- Any bleach (when needed)
- Only non-chlorine bleach (when needed)
- Do not bleach
Care and Cleaning of the Dryer
Exterior:
Wipe spills with a damp cloth. Avoid laundry pretreatment products near the dryer as they may damage finishes.
Stainless Steel Surfaces:
Use a damp cloth with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner suitable for stainless steel. Remove residue and dry with a clean cloth.
Lint Filter:
Clean before each use. Pull straight up. Remove waxy buildup by washing the screen in warm, soapy water, drying thoroughly, and replacing. Do not operate without the lint filter. Vacuum lint from the filter area if performance changes.
Dryer Interior and Duct:
Clean interior and exhaust duct annually by qualified service personnel.
Exhaust Duct:
Inspect and clean annually to prevent clogging, which lengthens drying time. Steps: 1. Turn off power. 2. Disconnect duct. 3. Vacuum duct. Reconnect duct.
Exhaust Hood:
Check from outside that hood flaps move freely. Ensure no wildlife is nesting inside.
About Venting the Dryer
Proper venting is crucial for performance and energy efficiency. Follow installation instructions for exhausting.
Venting Requirements:
- Use only rigid metal 4" diameter ductwork inside the dryer cabinet.
- Use rigid metal or UL-listed flexible metal 4" diameter ductwork for exhausting to the outside.
- Do not use plastic or other combustible ductwork.
- Use the shortest length possible.
- Do not crush or collapse ducting.
- Avoid resting duct on sharp objects.
- Venting must conform to local building codes.
WARNING - Fire Hazard
Dryer MUST be exhausted outdoors. Use only 4" rigid metal ducting for home exhaust and transition duct. DO NOT use plastic vents. DO NOT exhaust into chimneys, kitchen exhausts, gas vents, walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or concealed building spaces. DO NOT install screens in or over exhaust ducts. DO NOT use duct longer than specified. Failure to follow can result in death or fire.

Dryer Problems and Solutions
Problem | Possible Causes | What To Do |
---|---|---|
Dryer doesn't start | Dryer is unplugged | Make sure the dryer plug is pushed completely into the outlet. |
Fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped | Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace fuse or reset breaker. (Most electric dryers use two fuses/breakers.) | |
Dryer doesn't heat | Fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped; dryer may tumble but not heat | Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace both fuses or reset both breakers. Your dryer may tumble if only one fuse is blown or one breaker is tripped. |
Gas service is off | Make sure gas shutoff at dryer and main shutoff are fully open. | |
No heat temperature selected | Select another heat setting. | |
Dryer shakes or makes noise | Some shaking/noise is normal. Dryer may be sitting unevenly | Move dryer to an even floor space, or adjust leveling legs as necessary until even. |
Greasy spots on clothes | Improper use of fabric softener | Follow directions on fabric softener package. |
Drying dirty items with clean ones | Use dryer for clean items only. Dirty items can stain clean items and the dryer. | |
Clothes were not completely clean | Use proper washing procedures before drying. Stains not visible when wet may appear after drying. | |
Lint on clothes | Lint filter is full | Clean lint screen before each load. |
Improper sorting | Sort lint producers (e.g., chenille) from lint collectors (e.g., corduroy). | |
Static occurs | Static electricity can attract lint | See suggestions under "Static" in this section. |
Overloading | Separate large loads into smaller ones. | |
Paper, tissue, etc., left in pockets | Empty all pockets before laundering clothes. | |
Inconsistent drying times | No fabric softener was used | Try a fabric softener. Bounce® Fabric Conditioner Dryer Sheets are approved for GE Dryers when used per instructions. |
Over-drying | Try a fabric softener. Adjust setting to Less Dry or Damp Dry. | |
Synthetics, permanent press and blends can cause static | Try a fabric softener. | |
The Dry dryness level was chosen but load is still damp | Type of heat | Automatic drying times vary by heat type (electric, natural, LP gas), load size, fabric types, wetness, and exhaust duct condition. |
Load consists of a mixture of heavy and light fabrics | When combining heavy and light fabrics, choose More Dry if using a sensor cycle. | |
Exhaust system is blocked | Inspect and clean exhaust system. | |
Clothes take too long to dry | Improper sorting | Separate heavy items from lightweight items. |
Large loads of heavy fabrics (like beach towels) | Separate large, heavy fabrics into smaller loads. | |
Controls improperly set | Match control settings to the load. | |
Lint filter is full | Clean lint filter before every load. | |
Improper or obstructed ducting | Check installation instructions for proper ducting/venting. Ensure ducting is clean, free of kinks, and unobstructed. Check outside wall damper. | |
Blown fuses or tripped circuit breaker | Replace fuses or reset circuit breakers. Ensure both are operating. | |
Overloading/combining loads | Do not put more than one washer load in the dryer at a time. | |
Under-loading | If drying one or two items, add a few items to ensure proper tumbling. | |
Clothes are wrinkled | Over-drying | Select a shorter drying time. |
Letting items sit in dryer after cycle ends | Remove items while slightly damp. Select Less Dry or Damp Dry. Remove items when cycle ends and fold or hang immediately. | |
Overloading | Separate large loads into smaller ones. | |
Clothes shrink | Some fabrics naturally shrink when washed or dried. | Follow garment care labels. Some items may be pressed back into shape. If concerned, do not machine wash or tumble dry. |
Water seen on inside of door and top of lint filter when opening door after steam cycle | Steam condenses on these surfaces | This is normal. |
Collars and waistbands still wet at end of cycle | The dryness monitor senses that the body of the clothes is dry. | Choose Speed Dry or Timed Dry for damp collars/waistbands. For future loads, choose More Dry or SaniFresh. |
Slight variation in metallic color | This is normal. | Due to metallic paint properties, slight color variations may occur due to viewing angles and lighting. |
