De'Longhi Magnifica Evo Automatic Coffee Machine User Manual

Models: ECAM29X.2Y, ECAM29X.3Y, ECAM29X.4Y

This manual provides step-by-step instructions for operating and maintaining your De'Longhi Magnifica Evo coffee machine. For initial setup, refer to the included Quick Guide.

1. Introduction

The main functions of the appliance are presented step-by-step in the Quick Guide. Please take a few minutes to read this instruction manual to avoid hazards or damage to the appliance. The LED indicators and controls on the coffee machine panel will help you use it correctly:

IndicatorStatusFunction
Light offOff
Light onOnFunction available
FlashingFlashingFunction in progress
Rapidly flashingRapidly flashingUser intervention required

These symbols are also used in the Quick Guide included with the product.

2. First Use

Instructions for the first use of the appliance are provided in the QUICK GUIDE. For the first use, prepare 4-5 beverages to achieve a satisfactory result in the cup. During the first use, the water circuit is empty, so the appliance may make noise; this will decrease as the circuit fills. The coffee machine has been tested by the manufacturer using coffee, so it is completely normal to find traces of coffee in the grinder, which indicates our commitment to delivering the highest quality products.

3. Switching On and Off

Each time the appliance is switched on, it automatically performs a heating and rinsing cycle, which cannot be interrupted. It will only be ready for use after this cycle is complete. Each time it is switched off, if coffee has been prepared previously, the appliance performs an automatic rinsing cycle.

Risk of Burns!

During rinsing, a small amount of hot water flows from the coffee dispenser. Be careful not to scald yourself with splashing water.

4. Coffee Preparation

4.1 Preparing Coffee with Coffee Beans

4.2 Preparing Coffee with Ground Coffee

4.3 Changing Coffee Aroma

  1. Press the desired aroma button:
    • ☕ Mild
    • ☕☕ Medium
    • ☕☕☕ Strong
  2. Then select the desired coffee-based beverage.

Note: For subsequent preparations, the appliance will suggest the last selected aroma. If power is interrupted, the appliance will revert to the default medium setting.

4.4 Rinsing ♨️

This function can produce hot water from the coffee dispenser to rinse and heat the internal circuit of the appliance. To activate rinsing, simply hold the ♨️ button for approximately 5 seconds. Production will automatically stop (if you wish to stop earlier, press the same button again).

4.5 Tips for Higher Temperature Coffee

To obtain hotter coffee, it is recommended to:

4.6 Grinder Adjustment

Do not adjust the coffee grinder, at least initially, as it is factory-set for optimal coffee production. To make adjustments while the grinder is operating, adjust the knob as follows:

ConditionAdjustment
If coffee flows too slowly or not at all.Turn one click towards number 7. The effect of this change will only be visible after preparing at least 2 subsequent coffees. (Grinder adjustment dial with numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and dots)
For stronger coffee and improved crema.Turn one click towards number 1. The effect of this change will only be visible after preparing at least 2 subsequent coffees. (Grinder adjustment dial with numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and dots)

Note: The adjustment knob can only be used while the coffee grinder is operating, at the beginning of preparing coffee-based beverages.

4.7 Customizing In-Cup Quantity

  1. Hold the button corresponding to the beverage to be programmed for a few seconds: you are in the programming menu when the indicator flashes rapidly. Production begins.
  2. Once the desired quantity in the cup is reached, press the beverage button again: production will stop, and the quantity will be saved.

Note: To cancel ongoing programming, press the button corresponding to another beverage.

5. Preparing Cappuccino

Fill the container with 100 grams of milk for each cappuccino you want to prepare. When choosing the container size, consider that the liquid volume will increase 2 or 3 times. To obtain a denser and richer foam, use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk directly from the refrigerator (around 5°C). To avoid poorly frothed milk or foam with large bubbles, clean the frothing nozzle after each use.

6. Water Hardness Measurement

The descaling alarm is displayed after a predetermined operating period, which depends on water hardness. The coffee machine is factory-set to 'Level 4' water hardness. Optionally, you can program the coffee machine based on the water hardness of your tap water in different regions, thereby reducing the frequency of descaling.

  1. Remove the control strip from its packaging: if included with your model, it is in the quick guide.
  2. Completely immerse the strip in a glass of tap water for about one second. (Diagram: Hand holding a test strip, immersing it in a glass of water)
  3. Remove the strip from the water and shake it gently. After about a minute, 1, 2, 3, or 4 red squares will appear. Depending on the water hardness, one square corresponds to 1 level. (Diagram: Test strip with 4 red squares, indicating water hardness)
