Description
If a creaking or ticking noise is heard from the Steering Wheel Module (SWM) area when turning the steering wheel, follow the advice under Service.

Removal
Remove airbag driver's side. Refer to: Removal, replacement and installation, Section 8 - Body and interior, Section 88 - Interior equipment, Section 884 - seat belt and other restraining systems.
Step 1: Turn the steering wheel into neutral position. Image shows two views of the steering wheel. The left view, marked with a red cross [❌], depicts an incorrect steering wheel position. The right view shows the steering wheel correctly aligned with the vehicle's front wheels pointing straight ahead.
Step 2: Disconnect the connectors. Image displays the steering wheel hub area with yellow wiring harnesses connected to purple electrical connectors. Black arrows point to the connectors, indicating where to disconnect them.
Step 3: Loosen the screws and remove the marked part. Image shows the steering wheel hub with a central bolt highlighted in purple. Arrows indicate the bolt. An inset diagram shows a 15mm socket. The instruction is to loosen the screws and remove the marked part.
Step 4: Apply anti-squeak tape. A blue rectangular strip, labeled with dimensions 50mm [↔️ 50mm] and 15mm [↕️ 15mm], represents the anti-squeak tape. A 'X2' symbol indicates two pieces are required. A pair of scissors [✂️] is also shown.
Step 5: Fit component as illustrated. Images illustrate the correct fitting of steering wheel module components. Blue highlighted areas indicate insertion points or alignment guides. Arrows show the direction of movement or connection. A caution advises to ensure the component is fitted as illustrated.
Installation
Step 1: Install the marked components. Image shows the steering wheel hub with a central bolt highlighted in purple. An inset diagram shows a 15mm socket. The instruction is to install the screw.
Torque Specification: Steering wheel to steering column (center screw): 60 Nm.
