Quick Start
Power Up TriSensor 8
TriSensor 8 is battery-powered. You must power it up before pairing and using it in your Z-Wave network.
- Remove the battery cover by sliding the unlock button to the left [left arrow] and then pulling the cover off.
- Insert 1x CR123A lithium battery, orienting it according to the diagram inside the sensor. Warning: Not compatible with rechargeable CR123A batteries (3.6V).
- You can close the TriSensor 8 by placing the cover back on at an angle. However, it is recommended to wait until after pairing is complete so you can easily access the Action button.
Connect TriSensor to a Hub
Follow these steps to connect your TriSensor 8 to your Z-Wave hub. Refer to specific hub instructions for more detailed guidance.
- Aeotec Smart Home Hub / SmartThings:
- Open the SmartThings app.
- Tap '+' (at the top right corner).
- Tap 'Add' (next to Partner devices).
- Select 'Aeotec' in the catalog.
- Tap 'Add without QR Code' -> 'Motion Sensor' or 'Multipurpose Sensor' (either will work).
- Tap the Action button 3 times within 1.5 seconds on your TriSensor 8.
- Select 'Secure Setup' when prompted.
- Scan the QR code or choose to enter the 5-digit DSK code.
- Home Assistant / Z-WaveJS:
- Open Home Assistant.
- Click 'Configuration' (bottom left).
- Click 'Integrations'.
- Click 'Configure'.
- Click 'ADD NODE'.
- Click 'START INCLUSION'.
- Tap the TriSensor 8 Action button 3 times within 1.5 seconds to pair it.
- Hubitat:
- Open your Hubitat interface.
- Click 'Devices'.
- Click 'Discover Devices'.
- Click 'Z-Wave'.
- Click 'Start Z-wave Inclusion'.
- Tap the TriSensor 8 Action button 3 times within 1.5 seconds to pair it.
- SmartStart QR Code Scanning:
- If your Z-Wave gateway supports SmartStart, scan the QR code on the TriSensor 8 for automatic pairing if your hub supports this feature.
- For most other hubs:
- Set your Z-Wave hub to connect new Z-Wave devices.
- Tap the TriSensor 8 Action button 3 times within 1.5 seconds.
- If prompted, scan the QR code or enter the 5-digit DSK code.
Placement Considerations
Proper placement is crucial for optimal motion detection and accurate environmental readings.
Motion Detection Placement:
- Ceiling Installation: For the most optimal motion detection, install the TriSensor 8 at a height of at least 3 meters (approximately 10 feet) from the floor.
- Wall Installation: For wall installations, a height of at least 2.5 meters (approximately 8 feet) from the floor is recommended, with the sensor angled downwards at 45 degrees.
- The motion sensor's longest detection range is oriented towards the side of the battery compartment.
- Install the TriSensor 8 pointed towards the area with the most foot traffic ?♂️.
Environmental Readings Placement:
- Avoid installing TriSensor 8 in locations near significant environmental changes such as air conditioners, fans, or heaters ??️, as these will greatly impact temperature sensor accuracy.
- Install the TriSensor 8 on the opposite side of the room from such environmental changes if you wish to get the most accurate temperature reading for the overall room.
- Ensure that there are no objects or obstacles ? in front of the sensor lens that can impact motion sensor tracking.
- Avoid installing TriSensor 8 near any metal ?, as metal reflects wireless signals and can significantly impact the sensor's range.
Z-Wave Resetting TriSensor 8
Your TriSensor 8 can be removed from your Z-Wave network at any time using your Z-Wave network's main controller. Refer to your controller's manual for specific instructions on removing devices.
Using an Existing Gateway:
You may need to refer to your gateway's method of including devices if you do not know how to pair a Z-Wave device. Any gateway can be used to perform an unpair/removal, even if it's not the one the TriSensor 8 is currently paired to, to factory reset the device.
- Set your Z-Wave gateway into Z-Wave unpair (exclusion) mode.
- Tap the Action button 3 times within 1.5 seconds; the red LED indicator will light up ?.
Manual Hard Resetting TriSensor 8:
This method is not fully advised unless your gateway has failed. Performing these steps will factory reset your TriSensor 8 if it is paired to your network.
- Ensure the device is powered.
- Press and hold the Action button for 12+ seconds, then release it.
- If the reset was successful, the LED will flash red/green quickly ?? to indicate it has been factory reset.
Waking Up TriSensor 8
To configure TriSensor 8, you must wake it up using the button press function. This allows manual wake-up if you don't want to wait for the automatic cycle.
Typically, the TriSensor 8 wakes up automatically using the Wakeup command class, with a default timeframe of once every 43200 seconds (12 hours).
Quick Wakeup:
- Press and hold the TriSensor 8 Action button for 3 seconds.
- Wait until the LED flashes blue ?.
- Release the TriSensor 8 Action button. Any queued commands in your Z-Wave Controller will be sent.
