Precautions

Safety

  1. The unit is designed for negative terminal battery connection to the vehicle metal. Confirm this before installation.
  2. Do not allow speaker wires to be shorted together when the unit is switched on, as this may overload or burn out the power amplifier.
  3. Do not install the detachable panel before connecting the wire.
  4. The protective case is used to safely keep the front panel.

Environment

  1. Do not use this unit near water or moisture.
  2. If moisture forms inside the lens, it may not operate properly. Wait about one hour for the moisture to evaporate.
  3. If the car interior is extremely hot, do not use the player until the car has cooled down.

Maintenance and Cleaning of Discs

Disc Maintenance

  1. To keep the disc clean, handle it by its edge; do not touch the play side surface.
  2. Do not stick paper or tape on the disc. If there is glue or analog on the disc surface, wipe it up before use.
  3. Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight, nearby heat sources, or leave it in a car parked in direct sunlight where temperatures can rise considerably.
  4. Put the disc inside its case to maintain temperature after playback.

Disc Cleaning

  1. Before playing, wipe the disc with a clean lint, wiping outwards from the disc center.
  2. Do not use petrol, thinner, commercial cleaner, or anti-static spray used for plastic LPs to wipe the disc.

Battery Information of the Remote Control

Replace Battery in the Remote Control

  1. Before first use, pull the insulating sheet out of the remote control in the direction indicated by the arrow.
  2. Press the movable block hold as indicated by arrow A, then pull the battery holder out as indicated by arrow B.
  3. Replace the old battery with a new battery, ensuring the (+) polarity side is upward.
  4. Insert the battery holder to its original position in the remote control.

Note about the Battery of the Remote Control

  1. Improper use of the battery may cause overheating or explosion, resulting in injury or fire.
  2. Battery leakage may cause damage to the remote control (Battery Life: 6 months with normal use in normal room temperature).
  3. Do not short the battery.
  4. Do not throw the battery into fire.
  5. To avoid the risk of accident, keep the battery out of reach of children.

Bluetooth Hands-Free System

1. Enter Bluetooth Mode

When using the MODE button or Mode Menu to enter Bluetooth mode, the Bluetooth interface will be displayed. Press and hold the BAND button to turn on shift, then select.

2. Pairing and Connection

  1. Turn on the Bluetooth mode of the mobile phone.
  2. Select 'Finding the Bluetooth Device' and enter it. After finding, the Bluetooth Device name will be shown. Select it and enter; an interface will prompt for a password. Input '0000' and enter. A 'pair OK' message will confirm.
  3. For some mobile phones, automatic connection with the car audio system occurs after pairing. For others, select the paired BT device and press the CONNECTION button. When connected, the LCD will show 'LINK OK'. If pairing fails, select BT search again.

4. Audio Transfer

In the connection status, audio from the mobile phone transfers to the car audio system whenever a dialing takes place or a call is received.

5. Dialing in Connection Status

Dial directly with the mobile phone.

5.2 Dial with Remote Control

  1. Input telephone number with number buttons 0-9. Press CLEAR button briefly to cancel a wrongly input number.
  2. Press TEL briefly to execute dialing.

5.3 Redial Last Phone Number

Press REDIAL button briefly or tap the dial icon to validate the last phone number.

6. Accept/Reject/End Call

  1. When ringing, press TEL button briefly to accept the call.
  2. When ringing, press HANGUP button briefly to reject the call.
  3. When talking, press HANGUP button briefly to end the call.

Note: During ringing, the phone number appears.

7. Transfer Audio from Mobile Phone to Car Audio Player

In Bluetooth connection status, if the mobile phone can play audio or video files and supports A2DP, the audio of the playing file will be transferred to the Car Audio Player. (For some mobile phones, 'Play by BT' must be selected first).

In A2DP mode, if the Bluetooth device supports AVRCP, functions like >>|, |<<, PLAY/PAUSE, EJECT, MUTE, EQ, LOUD, VOL, and SEL buttons are the same as in disc mode (no fast forward/backward functions for >>///<< buttons). Other buttons available in disc mode are not available.

Remote Control Description

The remote control features numerous buttons for controlling the BV7948B unit. Below is a list of common buttons and their functions:

Unit Controls and Connections

1.6 Locations and Names of the Controls

The front panel of the BV7948B features a 3.6" TFT monitor and various control buttons and slots. Key controls include Power/Mute, Disc Slot, Release, Mode, TA, SEL, AF, Small Monitor, IR Remote Sensor, Band/Tel, Up/DN, APS/Hang Up, Eject, Play/Pause, INT, RPT, RDM, -10, +10, USB Socket, Reset, AUX In Socket, Microphone, and SD Card Slot.

The unit chassis facet, visible after removing the front panel, reveals the Disc Slot, Reset button, and AUX In Socket.

1.7 Description of the Rear Cabinet

The rear cabinet provides various connection points:

Note: After connecting the Parking Line, video on the small monitor of the front panel will display only after braking the car.

Connecting the Parking Brake Line

The parking brake line (Pink wire) connects to the parking brake switch inside the car, which then connects to the metallic body or chassis of the car.

Rear View Camera

In any mode, the video signal will switch to camera mode (if applicable) when the car is in reverse. After taking the car out of reverse, it will resume its previous mode.

Warning:

Always check the surrounding environment. Objects might be reversed. The rear view camera is designed only to assist while reversing. Due to the limitations of the camera angle and range, it may cause accidents if the driver relies solely on the reverse camera and display.

1.8 Unit Installation

The unit installation is anti-theft. The unit chassis uses a sliding metal housing. First, connect the power lines, speaker lines, and auto antenna according to the manual. Then, install the sliding metal housing in the car according to the diagram.

Common Operation

1. Turn On/Off the Unit

In power off mode, press the POWER button to turn on the unit. In power on mode, press and hold the POWER button on the front panel or briefly press the POWER button on the remote control to turn off the unit.

2. Select Function Mode

Press the MODE button to select TUNER, DISC (after inserting a disc), USB (after inserting a USB storage), Card (after inserting a MMC or SD card), AV IN, AUX, BLUETOOTH, or SETUP mode.

Press and hold the BAND button to turn on shift, then rotate the VOL knob or use the direction buttons to select function mode. Press OK to confirm. During playback, select the 'Menu' icon to go to the main Menu.

Press and hold the MODE button to turn off the display while the unit keeps working. Press any button to turn it back on.

Note: This unit has front and rear USB ports. Only one will work at a time.

3. Adjust Sound Level

Rotate the VOL knob or press or hold the + or - button to directly adjust the volume level.

4. Mute Sound

Press the MUTE button on the remote control to turn on/off MUTE mode. Briefly pressing the POWER button on the front panel also turns on/off MUTE mode.

5. Display the Time

Press the CLK button on the remote controller to display clock time on the small monitor of the front panel in DISC/USB/SD-MMC modes. In RADIO mode, it is always displayed.

6. Select a Preset EQ Mode

Press the EQ button to select preset music equalizer curves: FLAT, CLASSIC, ROCK, POP, EQ OFF. The sound effect will change.

7. Remove the Front Panel

Press the REL button on the front panel to detach the front panel from the unit.

8. Turn On/Off LOUDNESS Mode

Press the LOUD button to turn on/off LOUDNESS mode. Turning on LOUDNESS mode enhances bass level when bass is insufficient.

System Setup

The DVD System Menu has 6 setup pages.

4.25.1 System Setup

TV Type

This setting matches the TV screen size.

The video output of the unit is only in NTSC format.

Password

This item locks or unlocks the Parental Control rating level. Default is locked, password '0000'. To set a new password: Select PASSWORD, press >, input original password '0000', press OK to unlock. Press > again, input new password, press OK to make it effective.

Rating

This item sets a new rating level for Parental Control.

  1. Select PASSWORD, press >, input password, press OK to unlock rating level setting.
  2. Select RATING, use direction buttons to select desired rating level, press OK to confirm.
  3. Select PASSWORD again, press >, input password, press OK to lock the new setting.

Default

This item restores all setup items to original status.

4.25.2 Language Setup

OSD Language

This item selects the language of the SYSTEM MENU and all operating prompt interfaces displayed during playback.

Audio Lang

This item selects an audio language.

Subtitle Lang

This item selects a subtitle language.

Menu Lang

This item selects a menu language.

4.25.3 Audio Setup

This item selects the desired basic music tone (from low to high).

4.25.4 Video Setup

Brightness

Adjusts the brightness of the video output.

Contrast

Adjusts the contrast of the video output.

Saturation

Adjusts the saturation of the video output.

Hue

Adjusts the hue of the video output.

4.25.5 Speaker Setup

Downmix

Selects the desired sound effect when there is no center speaker and subwoofer. There are 3 modes: LT/RT, STEREO, VSS.

4.25.6 Digital Setup

OP Mode

Selects audio output mode.

Dynamic Range

After selecting LINE OUT compression mode, adjust the linear compression ratio. Setting to FULL minimizes Peak-to-Peak audio signal value; setting to OFF maximizes it.

Dual Mono

Selects desired audio output mode for left and right signals, mainly for Karaoke of Ac3. Modes include STEREO, MONO L, MONO R, MIX MONO.

Radio Operation

1. BAND BUTTON

In RADIO mode, press the BAND button on the remote control or front panel to select FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, and AM2 bands. The selected band will display on the small monitor.

2. TUNE/SEEK UP/DOWN BUTTONS

In RADIO mode:

  1. Press and hold the >>///<< button to automatically search up/down for an available station from the current frequency.
  2. Briefly press the >>|/|<< button to manually search up or down step by step for the desired station.

3. APS BUTTON

In RADIO mode:

  1. When pressing and holding the APS button, the radio searches from the lowest frequency and checks signal strength. After one cycle search, the 6 strongest stations are preset to the corresponding memory bank. After APS operation, the radio executes preset scan and broadcasts the No.1 station for FM1. (Stores 3x6 stations for FM and 2x6 stations for AM).
  2. When briefly pressing the APS button on the front panel or remote control, the radio searches for each preset station from M1. If field strength is above threshold, the radio holds at that preset number for a few seconds with mute release, then searches again. After a full circle, it stops searching on M1.

Note: In FM band, FM1, FM2, FM3 are checked one at a time. In AM band, AM1, AM2 are checked one at a time.

4. PRESET STATION [1-6] BUTTONS

  1. To memorize the current frequency on the current band, press and hold any of the six Number buttons (1-6).
  2. To recall the memory station on the current band, press one of the Number buttons [1-6].

5. STEREO/MONO BUTTON

Press the ST button on the remote control to select STEREO or MONO sound mode for FM band.

6. LOC BUTTON

  1. When the signal of a distance radio station is very weak and receiving effect is bad, check if 'LOC' is on LCD. If so, press this button to turn off LOC function, then tune again for the distance radio station.
  2. When signals from local radio stations are too strong, this could lead to interference. Press this button to turn on LOC function, and the LOC icon will be lit up on the LCD. Re-tune for the local station required.

7. PTY (PROGRAM TYPE) BUTTON

Press the PTY button to select a mode: PTY MUSIC group → PTY SPEECH group → PTY OFF.

When PTY group is on, use VOL+ or VOL- on the remote control or rotate the VOL knob on the front panel to select PTY programs: NEWS, AFFAIRS, INFO, SPORT, EDUCATE, DRAMA, CULTURE, SCIENCE, VARIED, WEATHER, FINANCE, CHILDREN, SOCIAL, RELIGION, PHONE IN, TRAVEL, LEISURE, DOCUMENT, PTY NONE, POP M, ROCK M, EASY M, LIGHT M, CLASSICS, OTHER M, JAZZ, COUNTRY, NATION M, OLDIES, FOLK M.

When PTY group is on, pressing the 6 number buttons also selects PTY programs.

After selecting a PTY program, 'PTY SEEK' will display and automatically search for the station. If the station does not exist, 'PTY NONE' will display, and the unit will return to normal station.

8. AF [ALTERNATIVE FREQUENCIES] BUTTON

When the AF button is pressed, AF switching mode is selected and displayed by AF segment.

When AF switching mode is selected, the radio checks signal strength of AF continuously. If a new AF is stronger than the current station, it switches over to that frequency for a short time, and 'NEW FREQUENCY' displays for 1-2 seconds. In FM mode, when AF is on, SEEK, (SCAN), AUTO-MEMORY function can only receive and save the RDS program.

9. TA [TRAFFIC ANNOUNCEMENT] BUTTON

Press the TA button to turn on TA search mode.

When traffic announcement is transmitted:

  1. If the unit is in Disc Play mode, it will switch to radio mode temporarily.
  2. Temporarily switch over to an EON linked station when EON detects a traffic announcement on that other program, and TA, TP will be displayed on LCD.

TA interruption function: The current traffic announcement is canceled by pressing TA button shortly.

When TA is on, SEEK, (SCAN), AUTO MEMORY function can be received or saved only when traffic program identification code has been received.

Basic Disc, USB or MMC/SD Operation

4.1 Begin Playback

  1. Press the POWER button briefly to turn on the DVD player. Ensure the monitor's video output is connected to the DVD player's video input.
  2. Press the RELEASE button to detach the front panel.
  3. Insert a disc into the DISC SLOT (label surface up), then flip up the front panel until it clips.

Note:

  1. Some discs that are seriously scratched or of poor manufacturing/recording quality may not play.
  2. If the player cannot read a disc under normal conditions, try to eject and reload the disc.

Remark:

  1. In addition to normal CD and DVD, this unit supports CD-R, CD-R/W, DVD-R, and DVD-R/W. However, playback may vary depending on recording equipment, program, or disc itself.
  2. When dealing with CD-R, CD-R/W, DVD-R, or DVD-R/W recording, too high recording speed may result in poor signal quality. It is recommended to select the lowest possible recording speed.

4.4 Play USB & Card

Insert a USB storage device or MMC/SD Card into their respective slots. The root menu will display on the monitor, and audio files will play automatically if present.

Playback Functions

4.2 Pause Playback

In DVD/VCD/CD/MP3/WMA disc playing, press the PAUSE button on the IR remote controller to pause playback. Press the PLAY button to resume normal playback.

4.3 Stop Playback

In DVD/VCD/MP3/WMA/CD disc playing, press the STOP button once to pause playback, then PLAY to resume normal playback. Press STOP twice to fully stop playback, then PLAY to start playback from the beginning of the first chapter/track.

4.4 Select Chapter/Track with UP/DN or >>|/|<< Button

Press the UP/DN button on the front panel or the >>|/|<< button on the remote controller during playback to select the next or last chapter/track. Press multiple times to advance multiple chapters/tracks forward or backward.

4.5 Select Chapter/Track with Number Buttons

In DVD/VCD (PBC OFF)/MP3/WMA/CD disc playing, press 1-9 and 0/10 buttons to directly select and play the 1st to 10th track/chapter (0/10 is the 10 button). For numbers greater than 10, use the 10+, 1-9, and 0/10 buttons. For example, to play the 13th track/chapter, press 10+ once, then 3. To play the 34th track/chapter, press 10+ three times, then 4. Long pressing +10 or -10 can play the next or last 10 chapters/tracks (MP3/WMA only).

4.6 Select Chapter/Track with Root/PBC Menu

(If the disc includes the root/PBC menu)

  1. In DVD disc playing, press the TITLE button on the remote controller to display the title list.
  2. Press direction buttons to select desired title, then press OK or PLAY to open the root menu.
  3. Press direction buttons to select desired chapter, finally press OK or PLAY to play the selected chapter.

During playback, pressing the MENU button can directly display the root menu of the playing title.

4.7 Terminate the Playback

  1. Press the RELEASE button to detach the front panel, then EJECT to eject disc, and remove the disc. Flip up the front panel until it clips.
  2. Long press the POWER button on the front panel or briefly press the POWER button on the remote controller to turn off the DVD player.

4.8 Playback with Speed

During normal playback, long press the UP/DN button on the front panel or the >>///<< button on the remote controller continuously to fast forward or backward at speeds: x2, x4, x8, x20, normal. Press PLAY to resume normal playback.

4.9 Playback with Slow Speed

During playback, press the SLOW_FWD button to execute the Slow Forward function. Each consecutive press decreases playback speed: x1/2, x1/3, x1/4, x1/5, x1/6, x1/7, normal. Press PLAY to resume normal playback. This function is only for video.

4.10 Playback with Still Frame

If the unit is currently running DVD/VCD disc, press the STEP button consecutively to display still frames step by step. Press PLAY to resume normal playback.

4.11 Playback Repeatedly

4.11.1 One/All Repeat

  1. In DVD disc playback: Press the RPT button to select REP CHAPTER, REP TITLE, REP ALL, or REP CANCEL.
  2. In VCD (PBC OFF)/CD disc playback: Press the RPT button to select REP 1, REP ALL, or CANCEL. When PBC is ON, RPT button is unavailable during VCD disc playing.
  3. In MP3/WMA disc playback: Press the RPT button to select REP 1, REP DIR, REP ALL, or CANCEL.

4.11.2 A-B Repeat

Press the A-B button to repeat a specific segment on a disc.

  1. Press A-B at point (A) for the start. Press A-B again at point (B) for the end. The segment will play repeatedly.
  2. To cancel A-B repeat mode and resume normal playback, press A-B a third time.

Note: During VCD/MP3/WMA/CD playback, points A and B must be within the same track. During DVD playback, points A and B can be selected from different chapters.

4.12 Playback in Scan Mode

  1. In VCD (PBC OFF)/CD disc playing, press the INT button to play the previous 15 seconds of each track. Press INT again to resume normal playback.
  2. In DVD/MP3/WMA disc playing, the INT button is unavailable.

4.13 Playback from a Specified Chapter/Track or Time

  1. In DVD disc playing, press SEARCH to display interface. Highlight title, use number buttons to input serial number. Use direction buttons to highlight chapter, use number buttons to input serial number. Use direction buttons to highlight time, use number buttons to input desired time. Press OK or PLAY to play selected chapter or from selected time.
  2. In VCD/MP3/WMA/CD disc playing, press SEARCH to display interface. Highlight track, use number buttons to input serial number. Use direction buttons to highlight time, use number buttons to input desired time. Press OK or PLAY to play selected track or from selected time.

Note: To select a song, press the "0/10" button to clear current selection until "0" is displayed, then input selection.

4.14 Playback in Random

In DVD/VCD (PBC OFF)/MP3/WMA/CD disc playing, press the RDM button to switch between RANDOM (ON)/RANDOM OFF. In RANDOM (ON) mode, it plays randomly.

4.15 Playback in Different Angle

  1. In VCD/MP3/WMA/CD disc playing, the ANGLE button on the IR remote controller is unavailable.
  2. In DVD disc playing, press the ANGLE button repeatedly on the IR remote controller to view in different angles (for DVD discs with ANGLE function).

4.16 Playback in Zoom Mode

In DVD/VCD mode, during playback, press the ZOOM button continuously to enlarge an area of images on the screen with multiples: ZOOMx2, ZOOMx3, ZOOMx4, ZOOMx1/2, ZOOMx1/3, ZOOMx1/4, ZOOM OFF. Press the ^/v/>/< buttons to select the area to enlarge.

4.17 Change the Caption Language

In DVD disc playing, press the SUBTITLE button repeatedly to select caption language or turn off caption (depends on disc). In VCD/MP3/WMA/CD disc playing, the button is unavailable.

4.18 Change the Audio Language

  1. In DVD disc playing, press the AUDIO button repeatedly on the IR remote controller to select desired language type (depends on disc).
  2. In VCD disc playing, press the AUDIO button repeatedly to select sound mode: MONO L, MONO R, MIX MONO, and Stereo. No language function.
  3. In CD/WMA/MP3 disc playing, the AUDIO button is invalid.

4.19 Look over the Playback Status

  1. In DVD disc playing, press the OSD button repeatedly on the remote controller to turn on/off playback status. When on, it displays information like: serial number of playing title, chapter, elapsed time of chapter, remained time of chapter, elapsed time of title, remained time of title, etc.
  2. In VCD/CD disc playing, press the OSD button repeatedly on the remote controller to turn on/off playback status. When on, it displays information like: serial number of playing track, elapsed time of track, remained time of track, elapsed time of disc, remained time of disc.
  3. In MP3/WMA disc playing, press the OSD button repeatedly on the remote controller to turn on/off playback status. When on, it displays information like: serial number of playing track, elapsed time of track, remained time of track.

4.20 Program Playback

Allows entering the order for chapters/tracks in DVD/VCD/MP3/WMA/CD disc playback.

  1. During playback, press the PROG button to enter program interface.
  2. Use direction buttons to move cursor to desired place for inputting sequence number.
  3. Use number button to input desired sequence number of title/chapter/track.
  4. Use direction buttons to move cursor to Play item, then press OK to play programmed titles/chapters/tracks. Pressing PLAY also plays programmed titles/chapters/tracks.

4.21 Playback the Picture CD in JPEG Format

  1. The root menu displays on the monitor when switching to DISC mode. It plays MP3/WMA files. (TITLE or MENU button is unavailable). In the root menu, the left file sort icon is for MP3/WMA, middle for JPEG, right for VIDEO. If one is missing, cursor cannot move to it.
  2. When displaying root menu, use direction buttons to select desired FOLDER, file, or file sort icon. Press OK or PLAY to open FOLDER or play selected file/sort. Use number buttons to select serial number of file and play. When selecting JPEG file sort icon, press ^ or > to select first JPEG file, then v to select desired JPEG file. Press OK or PLAY/PAUSE to display JPEG picture in full screen.

Troubleshooting

If issues arise, try the suggestions below. If problems persist, contact BOSS Audio Systems or an authorized technical service center. For safety, do not open or repair the player yourself, as it may cause electric shock.

No Picture, Sound, and Indication
