Chapter 1: Introduction
This manual describes how operators can use HART® handheld field communicators to configure the Rosemount 975 Flame Detectors to suit customer needs, perform firmware upgrades, and find troubleshooting information and functionality.
This manual also describes the HART handheld communicator software and provides instructions on how to install, operate, and maintain the software.
Chapter 2: Installation
2.1 Download the HART® device driver (DD)
To download the HART device driver:
- Go to Emerson.com.
- Navigate to the relevant product page.
- Scroll down to Documents and Drawings.
- Click SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS & DRIVERS.
- Download the relevant file.
2.2 Load device driver (DD) on HART® hand-held communicator
Procedure:
- Load the DD on the HART hand-held communicator.
- Select Setup.
Chapter 3: Operating the HART® hand-held communicator
From the main screen, you have three options:

The main screen displays device status (e.g., 'Good', 'Polled') and an analog output gauge (0-22 mA). Below the gauge are navigation buttons: Menu, Overview, Service Tools, and Configure.
Navigation Options:
- A. Overview: Opens the Overview screen.
- B. Service Tools: Opens the Service Tools screen.
- C. Configure: Opens the Configure screen.
3.1 Overview screen
The Overview screen provides a summary of the device information.

The Overview screen lists the following information:
- A. Device Status: Displays status such as 'Good', 'Failure', or 'Maintenance Required'.
- B. Comm Status: Displays the communication method, e.g., 'Polled'.
- C. Analog Output: Shows the current analog output value (e.g., 4.000 mA).
- D. Fire Detection Status: Indicates if fire has been detected ('None' or 'Detected').
- E. Manual Built In Test: Option to perform a built-in test.
- F. Locate Device: Option to make the device's LED blink for location.
- G. Log: Shortcut to the Log screen.
- H. Device Information: Navigates to the Device Information screen (fields are read-only when accessed from Overview).
3.2 Device information screen
The Device Information screen allows access to Identification, Revisions, and Security settings.

The screen presents three main options:
- A. Identification: Opens the Identification screen.
- B. Revisions: Opens the Revisions screen.
- C. Security: Opens the Security screen.
3.2.1 Identification screen
This screen displays detailed identification information about the device.

The Identification screen displays the following fields:
- A. Tag: Detector tag (editable).
- B. Long tag: Detector long tag (editable).
- C. Model: Detector model (e.g., 975).
- D. Final asmbly num: Final assembly number (editable).
- E. Dev id: Device identification number (e.g., 2154599).
- F. Date: Current date (e.g., 04/20/2021).
- G. Descriptor: Device descriptor.
- H. Message: Device message.
- I. Model Number: Specific model number (e.g., 975D-UF-6).
Note: When accessed from the Overview screen, these fields are read-only.
3.2.2 Revision numbers screen
This screen displays the various revision numbers for the device.

The Revision Numbers screen shows:
- A. Universal rev: HART® revision number (e.g., 7).
- B. Fld dev rev: Field device revision number (e.g., 1).
- C. Hardware rev: Hardware revision number (e.g., 1).
- D. Software rev: Software revision number (e.g., 1).
- E. DD Revision: Device driver revision number (e.g., 1).
3.2.3 Security screen
This screen manages device security settings.

The Security screen displays:
- A. Device is locked: Shows the device lock status (e.g., 'Off').
- B. Lock/Unlock: Option to lock or unlock the detector for maintenance. The detector cannot be configured by other devices when locked.
- C. Password Protection: Displays the status of password protection (e.g., 'Disabled').
- D. Enable/Disable Password: Option to enable password protection for unauthorized access.
3.3 Service tools screen
The Service Tools screen provides access to various service-related device parameters.

The Service Tools screen offers the following options:
- A. Alerts: Accesses the Alerts screen.
- B. Variables: Accesses the Variables screen.
- C. Trends: Accesses the Trends screen.
- D. Maintenance: Accesses the Maintenance screen.
3.3.1 Alerts screen
The Alerts screen provides information about device alerts and allows resetting active alerts.

The Alerts screen shows:
- A. Refresh Alerts: Tap to refresh the alert status.
- B. No Active Alerts: Displays the current alert status (e.g., 'No Active Alerts').
3.3.2 Variables screen
The Variables screen allows viewing and selecting different device variables.

The Variables screen includes:
- A. Variable Summary: Displays a summary of all variables, including Analog output, Electronic temperature, and Supply voltage.
- B. Primary Variable: Allows selection of analog output variables.
- C. Secondary Variable: Allows selection of temperature-related variables.
- D. Tertiary Variable: Allows selection of voltage-related variables.
- E. Quaternary Variable: Allows selection of heater-related variables.
Primary variable screen
The Primary Variable screen displays the analog output.

This screen shows:
- A. Analog Output: Displays the analog output value (e.g., 4.000 mA).
- B. Analog Output gauge: Tap to display the Analog Output Gauge screen.
Secondary variable screen
The Secondary Variable screen displays electronics information.

- A. Electronics Temperature: Displays the electronics temperature (e.g., 42 degC).
- B. Temperature Status: Indicates the quality of the temperature reading.
- C. Electronics Temperature gauge: Tap to display the Electronics Temperature gauge screen.
Tertiary variable screen
The Tertiary Variable screen displays voltage information.
The screen shows:
- A. Supply Voltage: Displays current supply voltage (e.g., 24.2 V).
- B. Voltage Status: Indicates the quality of the voltage reading (e.g., 'Good').
- C. Supply Voltage gauge: Tap to display the Supply Voltage Gauge screen.
Quaternary variable screen
The Quaternary Variable screen displays heater information.
The screen shows:
- A. Heater State: Displays heater state - 'On' or 'Off'.
3.3.3 Trends screen
From the Trends screen, you can view the variables listed on a graph.

The Trends screen displays graphs for:
- A. Analog Output: Displays the analog output on a graph.
- B. Electronics Temperature: Displays the electronics temperature on a graph.
- C. Supply Voltage: Displays the supply voltage on a graph.
3.3.4 Maintenance screen
The Maintenance screen provides access to routine maintenance functions and logs.

The Maintenance screen offers:
- A. Routine Maintenance: Opens a screen with routine maintenance functions.
- B. Log: Opens a screen with event logs.
- C. Reset/Restore: Opens a screen to reset the detector.
Routine maintenance screen
This screen allows performing maintenance tasks.
The Routine Maintenance screen includes:
- A. Manual Built In Test: Performs a manual built-in test.
- B. Analog Trim: Calibrates the 4-20 mA output. (1)
(1) With the analog trim function, you can round multimeter values to a 4-mA fixed value. Tap Analog Trim and then enter and confirm the multimeter reading.
Log screen
The Log screen provides information about logs and navigation options.

The Log screen displays:
- A. Operating Time: Amount of time the device has been powered up (e.g., 182563 s).
- B. Previous Log Records: Displays previous log records.
- C. Last Log Records: Displays the latest log record.
- D. Next Log Records: Displays the next log record.
- E. Device Log: Displays the log in a table.
Reset/Restore screen
This screen allows resetting the device.
The Reset/Restore screen contains:
- A. Reset Device: Performs a soft reset.
3.3.5 Configure screen
From the Configure screen, you can manually configure detector parameters or use the wizard.

- A. Guided Setup: Opens a screen to configure parameters using a wizard.
- B. Manual Setup: Opens a screen to manually configure parameters.
Guided setup screen
Use the Guided Setup screen to configure device parameters using a wizard.

The Guided Setup screen includes options for:
- A. Configure Detector: Guides through detector configuration.
- B. Configure BIT: Guides through built-in test (BIT) configuration.
- C. Accessory Relay: Guides through accessory relay configuration.
- D. Detection Option: Guides through detector options configuration.
- E. FOV Integrity: Guides through FOV integrity configuration.
- F. Access Control: Guides through access control configuration.
- G. 4-20 Current: Guides through the 4-20 mA current configuration.
- H. Device Information: Guides through detector information configuration.
Manual setup screen
Use the Manual Setup screen to manually configure each of the detector's parameters.

The Manual Setup screen includes:
- A. Detector Settings: Opens the Settings screen.
- B. BIT: Opens the BIT Settings screen.
- C. Activate Relay on: Activates or deactivates the relay.
- D. Detection Options: Opens the Detection Options screen.
- E. FOV Integrity: Enables or disables FOV integrity.
- F. Security: Opens the Security screen.
- G. Current Levels: Displays levels.
- H. Device Information: Displays the Device Information screen.
- I. HART: Opens HART Settings screen.
Detector settings screen
This screen allows configuration of detector settings.

The Detector Settings screen includes:
- A. Sensitivity: Selects the sensitivity. Refer to the Rosemount 975 Quick Start Guide for options.
- B. Alarm: Opens the Alarm screen.
- C. Window Heater: Opens the Window Heater Settings screen.
Alarm screen
This screen configures alarm parameters.

The Alarm screen allows configuration of:
- A. Alarm Delay: Select alarm delay. Options include 0 sec, Antiflare, 3 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 30 sec.
- B. Alarm Latch: Activate or deactivate alarm latch.
Window heater screen
This screen configures the window heater.

The Window Heater screen allows configuration of:
- A. Heater Mode: Select window heater mode: 'Off' (always off), 'Auto' (on when environment reaches activation temperature), or 'On' (always on).
- B. Heater Power: Select power mode: low or high.
- C. Heater Activation Temperature: Set heater activation temperature in degrees Celsius. Options: 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.
BIT screen
Use this screen to define built-in test (BIT) settings.

The BIT screen allows configuration of:
- A. Alarm Relay on BIT: Activate or deactivate alarm relay on BIT.
- B. Accessory Relay on Manual BIT: Activate or deactivate accessory relay on BIT.
- C. Automatic BIT: Activate or deactivate automatic BIT.
- D. BIT Interval: Manually select BIT interval.
- E. BIT Fault Count: Manually select BIT fault count.
- F. Post Manual BIT Duration: Set post manual BIT duration in seconds.
Detection options screen
Use this screen to define the detection options.

The Detection Options screen allows configuration of:
- A. Explosion Detection: Enable or disable explosion detection.
- B. Fast Detection: Enable or disable fast detection.
- C. IR/UV/UV+IR: Select single infrared (IR), single ultraviolet (UV), or both UV and IR channels. (2)
(2) This is available for UV/IR models only.
Security settings screen
This screen configures security settings.

The Security settings screen displays:
- A. Device is locked: Displays device lock status (e.g., 'Off').
- B. Lock/Unlock: Option to lock or unlock the detector for maintenance. The detector cannot be configured by other devices when locked.
- C. Password Protection: Displays password protection status (e.g., 'Disabled').
- D. Enable/Disable Password: Option to enable password protection to prevent unauthorized access.
Current levels screen
This screen displays current levels for various states.

The Current Levels screen shows:
- A. Fault: Current displayed during fault (1 mA, not changeable).
- B. BIT Fault: Current displayed during built-in test (BIT) fault (not changeable).
- C. FOV Warning: Current displayed during FOV warning (3-5 mA, should be < the normal value; default 4 mA).
- D. Normal: Current displayed during normal function (4 or 5 mA, should be ≥ the FOV value). Default: 4 mA.
- E. Warning: Current displayed during warning (13-16 mA, should be lower than alarm value). Default: 16 mA.
- F. Alarm: Current displayed during alarm (15-20 mA, should be higher than warning). Default: 20 mA.
Device information screen
See Device information screen for information on the Device Information screen.
