Coverage is generally not transferable, with the exception of household transfers.
Condition Based Service (CBS)
CBS is a further development of the Service Interval Indicator System. It displays remaining times for selected maintenance tasks and legally prescribed dates individually. CBS determines current and future maintenance requirements. This data can be read from the vehicle key by a BMW Service Advisor.
BMW recommends that maintenance and repair work be performed by an authorized BMW center.
Disconnecting the battery during long-term storage interrupts the calculation of time-based services. It is recommended to update time-based maintenance items before storage.
Service Required Display

- A: The service deadline has already passed.
*BMW recommends contacting your authorized BMW center when the "Service/Information — Approaching Deadline" symbol displays.
The current service status is automatically saved in the vehicle's key. The Service Advisor at your authorized BMW center can access this data using a key reader.
Special Note — Maintenance Intervals
Maintenance requirements are determined dynamically by the Condition Based Service (CBS) system. The maintenance items stated herein reflect the latest information available at the time of printing and are subject to change.
Subsequent maintenance items or services will be specified at intervals computed by the BMW Condition Based Service system.
Brake Fluid Service must be performed when required, based on:
- The specified CBS service counter interval
- The time interval (first occurrence based on the vehicle's production date)
Refer to pages 5-6 for additional information.
For convenience, you may also wish to have your authorized BMW center perform any necessary operations to fulfill state inspection requirements concurrently with maintenance services. The cost of more frequent maintenance services will not be covered by the Maintenance Program.
BMW i3 with Range Extender
The gasoline-powered internal-combustion engine serves as a generator for the high-voltage (HV) battery. This range-extending engine is not subjected to the typical speed ranges and loads of a car's primary engine. The two spark plugs and the intake air filter are rated for extended life.
Maintenance Service Summary
The Condition Based Service (CBS) system determines the requirement for maintenance services. Services may be required individually or in conjunction with other maintenance services.
Maintenance services are performed based on intervals of time, mileage, or after a specified number of previous services. These intervals correspond to the latest information available at the time of printing. Maintenance intervals are subject to change and may apply retroactively. Your authorized BMW center can advise on required maintenance services.

New Vehicle Limited Warranty - 2015 BMW i3 Models (Valid Only in the U.S.A. including Puerto Rico)
Warrantor
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) warrants the 2015 U.S.-specification BMW vehicles against defects in materials or workmanship to the first retail purchaser and each subsequent purchaser.
Warranty Begins
Coverage begins on the date of first retail sale or the date the vehicle is first placed into service.
Warranty Period
The warranty period is 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
Warranty Coverage
To obtain warranty service, bring the vehicle to any authorized BMW center during normal business hours. The center will, without charge for parts or labor, repair or replace the defective part(s) using new or authorized remanufactured parts. The decision to repair or replace is BMW NA's. Parts for which replacements are made become BMW NA property. A reasonable time must be allowed for warranty repairs.
Warranty repairs do not extend the original limited warranty period.
Safety Belt Warranty - Kansas
Safety belts are covered under the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for defects in material or workmanship for 10 years, unlimited mileage from the date of purchase. This coverage applies to new cars retailed in Kansas and repaired by an authorized BMW center in Kansas.
High-Voltage Lithium-Ion Battery Limited Warranty
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) warrants the high-voltage lithium-ion battery assembly against defects in materials or workmanship for a period of 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
High-Voltage Lithium-Ion Battery Capacity Coverage
The high-voltage lithium-ion battery modules are covered against excessive capacity loss for a period of 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Battery capacity naturally decreases over time and with use. If a capacity check shows the net battery capacity is less than 70 percent of its original nominal value, this is considered excessive.
During this coverage period, BMW NA will cover necessary component repair or replacement to correct excessive capacity loss when performed by an authorized BMW center.
Battery performance and durability are temperature-dependent. Higher temperatures increase capacity and range, while colder temperatures lower them.
Other factors impacting battery capacity and range include drive mode, charge cycle profile, on-board electric consumer usage, and driving conditions.
Other Items
Wheel alignment, balancing, and wiper blade inserts are covered up to the first 2,000 miles.
Items subject to wear and tear (e.g., brake pads, upholstery, paint finish, glass) are covered only for defects in material or workmanship.
Wood trim and leather upholstery may show variations in color and texture due to age or exposure to sunlight; this is not a defect.
What is not covered:
- Remote control transmitter battery replacement.
- Damage resulting from negligence, improper operation, improper repair, lack of maintenance, environmental influences, flood, accident, fire damage, or road salt corrosion.
- Damage caused by opening or removing the high-voltage lithium-ion battery by a non-authorized BMW center.
- High-voltage lithium-ion battery damage from leaving the vehicle for longer than 14 days with less than 6 miles of remaining "electric range".
- Damage to paint finish due to stone chips, nicks, dents, acid rain, industrial fallout, or normal deterioration (fading, discoloration).
- Damage from improper care/repair of "matte" paint finishes, excessive rubbing, or use of improper cleaners, polishes, and/or waxes.
- Maintenance services and parts (lubricants, fluids, filters, refrigerant).
- Modification of the vehicle or installation of performance accessories that alter original specifications or cause damage to other components.
- Tires are warranted by their respective manufacturer.
Driving over rough road surfaces can cause damage to wheels, tires, and suspension parts, especially with low-profile tires. Avoid road hazards and reduce speed.
Non-genuine BMW Parts: BMW NA is not obligated to pay for repairs of non-genuine BMW parts or damage resulting from their use. However, the use of non-genuine parts does not invalidate the warranty on other components unless they cause damage to warranted parts.
This warranty is void if the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) has been altered or cannot be read, if the odometer has been replaced or altered, if the vehicle has been declared a total loss or sold for salvage, or if used in any competitive event.
Limited Warranty — Rust Perforation 2015 Models
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) warrants this vehicle against defects in materials or workmanship which result in rust perforation for a period of 12-years unlimited mileage. Coverage begins on the date of first retail sale or the date the vehicle is first placed into service.
To obtain service, bring the vehicle to an authorized BMW center. The center will, without charge for parts or labor, repair or replace the defective part(s). The decision to repair or replace is BMW NA's. Parts for which replacements are made become BMW NA property.
Warranty repairs do not extend the original limited warranty period.
BMW NA makes no other express warranty on this product except for the new car warranty, rust perforation, high-voltage battery, and emission system warranties.
General Warranty Exclusions:
- Implied warranties of merchantability are limited to the duration of the express warranties.
- BMW NA excludes incidental and consequential damages.
- Some states do not allow limitations on implied warranties or incidental/consequential damages.
This warranty gives specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary by state.
Any legal claim or action arising from any express or implied warranty must be brought within 12 months of the date it arises.
This warranty does not apply to damage caused by negligence, improper accident damage repairs, or improper use.
This warranty is void if the VIN has been altered or cannot be read, if the odometer has been replaced or altered, if the vehicle has been declared a total loss or sold for salvage, or if used in any competitive event.
Federal Emissions System Defect Warranty (Valid Only in the U.S.A. including Puerto Rico)
This warranty applies to U.S.-specification vehicles distributed by BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) or sold through the BMW NA European Delivery Program.
BMW NA warrants that the car was designed, built, and equipped to conform to U.S. EPA regulations applicable at the time of manufacture and is free from defects in materials and workmanship which would cause it to fail to conform with applicable regulations for a period of 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Specific emission control components are warranted for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
Coverage begins on the date of first retail sale or the date the vehicle is first placed into service.
Warranty claims must be made as soon as reasonably possible after a defect is discovered. Bring the car to any authorized BMW center during normal business hours.
The authorized BMW center will, without charge for parts or labor (including diagnosis), repair or replace the defective part. The decision to repair or replace is BMW NA's. Parts for which replacements are made become BMW NA property. A reasonable time must be allowed for warranty repairs.
Warranty repairs do not extend the original limited warranty period.
Owner's Responsibility:
- Have all scheduled inspection and maintenance services performed as prescribed in the maintenance schedule.
- Contact your authorized BMW center for assistance in determining which specific parts or components are covered.
- It is strongly recommended to use certified BMW Service Parts or BMW Authorized Remanufactured Parts.
BMW NA will reimburse for emergency repairs (including labor, parts, and diagnosis) if an authorized BMW center or a warranty replacement part is not reasonably available within 30 days. Replaced parts and paid invoices must be presented at an authorized BMW center for reimbursement.
The use of replacement parts not of equivalent quality may impair the effectiveness of the emission control system. BMW NA assumes no liability for parts other than genuine BMW parts.
What is not covered:
- Malfunctions caused by accident, flood, misuse, improper adjustment, modification, alteration, tampering, disconnection, improper or inadequate maintenance.
- Replacement of maintenance parts (filters, spark plugs, etc.) beyond the first required inspection/maintenance, or if replaced for reasons other than being defective.
- Cars with altered or unreadable VIN, or altered/unreadable odometer.
- Cars declared a total loss or sold for salvage purposes.
General:
- These warranties give specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary by state.
- Implied warranties of merchantability are limited to the duration of the express warranties.
- BMW NA excludes incidental and consequential damages.
- Some states do not allow limitations on implied warranties or incidental/consequential damages.
Federal Emissions Performance Warranty (Valid Only in the U.S.A. including Puerto Rico)
This warranty applies in states and jurisdictions with periodic vehicle emissions tests.
To be eligible, the car must:
- Be distributed by BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) or sold through the BMW NA European Delivery Program.
- Have been maintained and operated according to the Owner's Manual.
- Fail to conform to applicable EPA emissions standards as judged by an EPA-approved emissions test.
- Result in the owner bearing a penalty or sanction if the non-conformity is not remedied within a specified period.
BMW NA warrants that if the car is eligible, any non-conformities causing it to fail an EPA-approved emissions test will be adjusted, repaired, or replaced, at BMW NA's option, to comply with applicable emissions standards.
Coverage is for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first, except for specific emissions control components (listed on page 22), which are covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
This warranty is subject to the terms and conditions of the Emission Control System Warranty and the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Warranty repairs do not extend the original limited warranty period.
Claims will not be denied based on the use of properly installed EPA-certified emission parts.
A manufacturer may deny a claim if an uncertified replacement part is used, provided the manufacturer demonstrates the part is defective or not equivalent to original equipment parts.
Maintenance, repair, or replacement of emission control systems can be performed by any automotive repair establishment using certified parts.
Claims can be made at any authorized BMW center immediately after the car fails an EPA-approved emission short test. The center will honor or deny the claim within 30 days. If denied, the center will notify you in writing of the reason(s). The center is required by law to honor the claim if notice of denial is not given within 30 days.
