This section details the Digitech BC281E e-bike display unit.

Parts Description

The display unit consists of the main screen and a separate control unit. Technical drawings show dimensions and pinouts.

Display Dimensions: The main display unit has dimensions approximately 86.00mm x 55.60mm, with a thickness of around 13.80mm. The mounting bracket allows for attachment to handlebars with a diameter of approximately 22.2mm.

Control Unit Pinout: The control unit features connection pins labeled P+, VLK, GND, RX, TX, and JL-F-Z509AG.

The display interface shows key information such as battery level [100%], speed (e.g., 6.0 KM/H), assist level (e.g., 2 ECO), and trip distance (e.g., 30.0 KM).

Operation

Power on/off

Long press the [Power] button to power on. The boot interface appears for approximately 2 seconds, followed by the riding interface. To power off, long press the [Power] button again; the shutdown interface will be shown for about 2 seconds before powering off.

Riding Interface

The riding interface displays various parameters. Key elements include:

  • Battery indicator [100%]
  • Light indicator
  • Error indicator (if applicable)
  • Speed display (e.g., 0.0 KM/H)
  • Speed unit
  • Real-time motor power (indicated by color, turning green during power recycling)
  • Assist level (default is 0, modes include ECO, NORMAL, SPORT)
  • Trip distance (e.g., 30.0 KM)
  • Multifunctional display area: This area can be cycled through by short pressing the [i] button, showing data like TOTAL DIST., TRIP DIST., MAX SPEED, AVG SPEED, POWER, and TRIP TIME.

Assist Level Switch

Click the [+] or [-] buttons to switch between assist levels. Press and hold the [-] button to enter pedestrian mode; release the button to exit.

Turn on/off the Light

Short press the [Light] button to toggle the light on or off.

Error Code

The display can show error codes. Common error codes for the KM5S protocol are listed:

Note: Error code meanings are for reference and may depend on other e-bike electrical parts.

User Menu

To access the user menu, long press the [+] and [-] buttons simultaneously for 1 second while the display is static. The interface will automatically return to the riding interface after 60 seconds of inactivity.

1. Clear Data

In the "Clear Data" menu, select "Trip Distance". Use [+] or [-] to change the option (default is "No"). Press [i] to confirm and return to the previous menu. This action will also clear Trip Time, Max & Avg Speed, and Calories Burnt.

2. Factory Reset

In the "Clear Data" menu, select "Factory Reset". Use [+] or [-] to change the option (default is "No"). Press [i] to confirm and return to the previous menu. A warning states that all data will be cleared and all settings will revert to default. Some functions may require a restart after a factory reset.

3. Set Unit

Select "Set Unit" and press [i] to enter the submenu. Use [+] or [-] to switch between units (e.g., Metric - Km, Imperial - Mile). Press [i] to confirm and return to the previous menu.

4. Set Brightness

Select "Set Brightness" and press [i] to enter the submenu. The adjustment range is Auto, 1-5. Press [i] to confirm and return to the previous menu.

5. Auto Power-Off

Select "Auto Power-off" and press [i] to enter the submenu. The adjustment range is 0-99 minutes. '0' means never auto power-off. Press [i] to confirm and return to the previous menu.

6. Speed Limit

Select "Speed Limit" and press [i] to enter the submenu. The adjustment range is 22-50 km/h. Press [i] to confirm and return to the previous menu.

7. Personalization

Access the "Personalization" menu by pressing [i]. Here, users can configure:

  • Cruise Control (CRU): Press [i] to toggle ON/OFF.
  • Reverse Charging Current (ACF): Press [i] to toggle ON/OFF.
  • Auto Headlight (Auto Headlight): Press [i] to toggle ON/OFF.
  • Assist Level PWM (Power Set): Press [i] to enter. Press [i] again to select "Power Mode". Use [+] or [-] to switch assist level ranges (e.g., 0-3, 1-3, 0-5, etc.). Press [i] to confirm and exit. Use [+] or [-] to change the percentage value for each assist level.

8. System Info

Select "System Info" and press [i] to view version information. Press [i] again to return to the previous menu.

Attentions

  1. Ensure the display is powered off before connecting or disconnecting cables to prevent damage.
  2. When mounting the display to the e-bike, use a screwdriver with a torque of approximately 0.5 N.M (do not exceed 0.6 N.M) to avoid damaging the handlebars.
  3. Do not expose the display to water.
  4. Clean the display with a soft, damp cloth only. Do not use chemical liquids or sprays.
  5. Dispose of or recycle the instrument and accessories according to local environmental laws and regulations. Do not discard as general waste.
  6. Damage or failure caused by improper installation or use is not covered by the after-sale warranty.
