Safety Information

Read and Save These Instructions.

  1. To reduce the risk of electric shock, ensure electricity is turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning.
  2. All wiring must comply with the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) and local electrical codes. Electrical installation should be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.
  3. The outlet box and support structure must be securely mounted and capable of supporting a minimum of 15.9 kg (35 lbs). Use only cUL-listed outlet boxes marked "Acceptable for Fan Support of 15.9 kg (35 lbs) or less."
  4. The fan must be mounted with a minimum of 2.5 m (8 ft.) clearance from the trailing edge of the blades to the floor.
  5. Do not place objects in the path of the blades.
  6. Use caution when working around or cleaning the fan to avoid personal injury or damage.
  7. After making electrical connections, turn spliced conductors upward and push them into the outlet box. Spread wires apart with the grounded conductor and equipment-grounding conductor on one side of the outlet box.
  8. Check and retighten all setscrews as necessary before installation.

Warranty

The supplier warrants the fan motor to be free from defects in workmanship and material for a lifetime after the date of purchase by the original purchaser. The light kit (excluding glass) is warranted for five years. All other fan parts (excluding glass or acrylic blades) are warranted for three years.

To obtain warranty service, present a copy of the receipt. Costs of removal and reinstallation are the customer's responsibility. Damage from accident, misuse, improper installation, or accessories is not covered. Warranty does not cover changes in brass finish due to climatic conditions. A certain amount of wobble is normal and not considered a defect. Servicing by unauthorized persons voids the warranty. Installation

Mounting Options

WARNING: Mount to outlet box marked "Acceptable for fan support of 15.9 kg (35 lbs) or less", and use screws provided with the outlet box. Outlet boxes used for lighting fixtures may not be acceptable for fan support and may need replacement. Consult a qualified electrician if in doubt.

If your ceiling fan does not have an existing cUL-listed mounting box, install one using the following instructions:

The illustrations show three different ways to mount the outlet box:

Illustration of outlet box mounting options

NOTE: A longer downrod may be needed to maintain proper blade clearance on a steep, sloped ceiling. The maximum allowable angle is 30° away from horizontal.

If the canopy touches the downrod, remove the decorative canopy bottom cover, turn the canopy 180°, and attach it to the mounting plate.

To hang the fan where there is an existing fixture but no ceiling joist, an installation hanger bar may be needed (available at Home Depot).

Assembly - Standard Ceiling Mount

1. Preparing for mounting

2. Routing the wires

3. Assembling the fan

WARNING: Failure to properly install the locking pin (CC) could result in the fan becoming loose and possibly falling.

CAUTION: To ensure wobble-free operation and to avoid damage, the downrod (B) and setscrew (JJ) must be completely tightened.

Assembly - Hanging the Fan

1. Attaching the fan to the electrical box

WARNING: Mount to an outlet box marked "Acceptable for fan support of 15.9 kg (35 lbs) or less", and use the screws provided with the outlet box.

NOTE: The mounting bracket (A) is designed to slide into place on an outlet box with the outlet box screws (TT) installed.

2. Hanging the fan

3. Connecting the safety cable

4. Setting the code on the remote control and receiver

NOTE: Receiver and hand unit frequencies are preset at the factory. Ensure dip switches on both are set to the same frequency. Dip switches on the hand unit are inside the battery compartment.

NOTE: Batteries weaken with age and should be replaced before leaking. Leakage will damage the hand unit. Dispose of used batteries properly and keep away from children.

5. Installing the receiver

WARNING: Disconnect power before wiring. Electrical wiring must meet all local and national electrical code requirements. The electrical source and fan must be 110/120 volt, 60Hz. Do not use with any variable wall control. Incorrect wiring can damage the receiver.

CAUTION: If fan wires are different colors, have this unit installed by a licensed electrician.

CAUTION: Do not install the receiver in a damp location or immerse in water (indoor use only). Do not pull on or cut receiver leads. Do not drop or bump the unit.

6. Wiring the receiver to the household wiring

IMPORTANT: Use supplied wire connecting nuts (AA). Secure connectors with electrical tape and ensure no loose strands or connections.

WARNING: Each supplied wire nut is designed for one 12-gauge house wire and two fan wires. If you have larger gauge house wiring or more than one house wire to connect, consult an electrician for proper wire nuts.

WARNING: Turn off electricity at the main fuse box before wiring. If unsure, contact a licensed electrician.

7. Wiring the fan to the receiver

NOTE: The fan comes with 12 in. lead wires for the 6 in. ball/downrod assembly (B). For a longer downrod, use the 42 in. extension lead wire (J).

8. Mounting the fan-motor assembly (standard mount)

Assembly - Attaching the Fan Blade

Operating Your Fan and Remote Control

Remote Control

Your fan is equipped with a remote control for speed and light operation. Speed settings for warm or cool weather depend on room size, ceiling height, and number of fans.

The fan is shipped with the reversing switch (YY) positioned for downward airflow. To reverse airflow:

  1. Turn the fan off and wait for the blades to stop.
  2. Slide the reversing switch (located on the top of the motor housing) to the opposite position.
  3. Turn the fan on again. The blades will turn in the opposite direction, reversing airflow.

Warm weather - (Forward): Downward airflow creates a cooling effect, allowing for a higher air conditioner setting without affecting comfort.

Cool weather - (Reverse): Upward airflow moves warm air off the ceiling, allowing for a lower heating unit setting without affecting comfort.

Operating Your Fan and Remote Control

NOTE: The default ceiling fan light temperature is 3000K (Soft White).

Care and Cleaning

WARNING: Ensure power is off before cleaning the fan.

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
The fan will not start.
  • Check main and branch circuit fuses or breakers.
  • Check line wire connections to the fan and switch wire connections in the switch housing.
  • Check the battery in the remote control.
  • Ensure you are within the normal range of 10-20 feet.
  • Remember to turn off the power supply before checking dip switch settings.
The fan is noisy.
  • Ensure all motor housing screws are snug.
  • Ensure screws attaching fan blade brackets to the motor hub are tight.
  • Ensure wire nut connections are not rattling against each other or the interior wall of the switch housing.
  • Allow a 24-hour "breaking in" period. Most noises from a new fan disappear during this time.
  • If using the light kit, ensure screws securing glassware are tight. Check that light bulbs are also secure.
  • Ensure the canopy is a short distance from the ceiling, not touching it.
  • Ensure the outlet box is secure and rubber isolator pads were used between the mounting plate and outlet box.
The fan wobbles.
  • Check that all blade and blade arm screws are secure.
  • Most wobble problems are caused by unequal blade levels. Measure from a point on the ceiling above the tip of one blade to the point on the ceiling. Rotate the fan and measure from the same point on each blade to the ceiling. Any measurement deviation should be within 1/8 in. Run the fan for ten minutes. If wobble continues, contact Customer Service for a free balancing kit.
