Powering On/Off
Power On: Press and hold the SCAN button for 3 seconds.
Power Off: Press and hold the SCAN and DOWN buttons for 3 seconds.
Basic Operation
- Aim the KDC directly at the barcode and press the SCAN button. Ensure the beam covers the barcode horizontally.
- A successful scan (indicated by 1 beep and a green LED) will display the scanned information on the screen. An unsuccessful scan (indicated by 2 beeps and a red LED) will display "Read Failed".
Bluetooth Profiles Explained
HID Normal
Allows one-way Bluetooth communication with Android, Mac, and Windows host devices. The KDC only transmits data to the host device.
SPP
Allows two-way Bluetooth communication. The KDC transmits data to the host device, and the host can transmit data back to the KDC.
HID iOS
Allows one-way Bluetooth communication with iOS host devices. The KDC only transmits data to the iOS host device.
MFi
Allows two-way Bluetooth communication with iOS host devices. The KDC transmits data to an iOS host device, and the iOS host can transmit data back to the KDC.
HID inputs data directly into an application. Both SPP and MFi require the KOAMTAC KTSync® app or integration of the KOAMTAC SDK to input data into an application.
Pairing & Connecting
- Navigate to the Bluetooth settings on your host PC, Mac, Smartphone, or Tablet.
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled and searching for devices on the host.
- Using the KDC, scan the pairing barcode corresponding to your desired Bluetooth profile. Refer to the previous panel if unsure.
- Check the list of available Bluetooth devices on your host device.
- From the list, select the KDC270, identified by its serial number in brackets, which matches the serial number on the back of the KDC270.
- In HID mode, the KDC270 is ready to use.
- To complete connection in SPP/MFi mode, launch KTSync or your application and select the KDC270. The KDC270 will beep upon successful connection.

Using Keyboard Wedge
Keyboard wedge functionality allows you to use your KDC as a keyboard. The HID profile functions as a keyboard wedge by default. For SPP or MFi profiles, KTSync provides keyboard wedge functionality when enabled. Refer to the KDC Reference Manual for detailed instructions.
- Ensure the KDC is connected to the host using the HID profile, or via KTSync keyboard using SPP/MFi profiles.
- Open any application on the host device with a text field.
- Tap the text field.
- Scan any barcode with the KDC.
- The barcode data will populate the text field.
KTSync & SDK
KTSync® is a program that communicates with the KDC via Bluetooth, enabling users to read and store data. It is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac, and supports wedging and data downloading from the KDC. For more information, visit www.koamtac.com/support/downloads/applications.
The Software Development Kit (SDK) is ideal for creating custom applications to collect data using your KDC. The KOAMTAC SDK supports major platforms including Android, iOS, Tizen, Windows, Xamarin, and Cordova. Developers can utilize the complimentary SDK and the KOAMTAC Developer Program.
