Congratulations and thank you for purchasing the QUICRUN series electronic speed controller (ESC).

01 Features

02 Begin to Use a New Brushless ESC

1. Connections

Sensored Motor Wiring:

When using a sensored brushless motor, connect the "SENSOR" port of the ESC and the "SENSOR" port of the motor with a sensor wire. The #A, #B, #C wires of the ESC MUST be connected with the motor wires #A, #B, #C respectively. Do not change the wire sequence. (#A is Blue, #B is Yellow, #C is Orange).

Sensorless Motor Wiring:

When using a sensorless brushless motor, the #A, #B, #C wires of the ESC can be connected with the motor wires freely (without any order). If the motor runs in the opposite direction, swap any two wire connections.

⚠️ Please disconnect the battery from the ESC after running the car!

Component Diagram Description:

The system consists of an Electronic Speed Controller (ESC), a Motor, a Receiver, a Battery, a Switch, and a Sensor wire connecting the motor's sensor port to the ESC's sensor port. A Capacitor is also connected to the ESC.

2. Set the Throttle Range

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Calibrate the ESC to match your transmitter's throttle range when using a new ESC or a changed transmitter. Enable the transmitter's "failsafe" function, setting the throttle channel to "Shutdown" or neutral position to stop the car if radio signals are lost.

Calibration Steps:

  1. Turn on the transmitter. Set throttle channel parameters like "D/R", "EPA", "ATL" to 100%. Set throttle trim to 0. For FUTABA™ and similar transmitters, set throttle direction to "REV"; for others, set to "NOR". Disable the transmitter's built-in ABS brake function.
  2. Hold down the SET button.
  3. Turn on the ESC switch.
  4. Release the SET button the moment the Red LED starts to blink. (If not released within 3 seconds, the ESC enters program mode; switch off and restart calibration from Step 1).
  5. Move the throttle stick to the neutral position and press the SET button. The Green LED flashes once and the motor emits a "Beep" tone.
  6. Move the throttle stick to the end position of forward and press the SET button. The Green LED flashes twice and the motor emits "Beep-Beep" tone.
  7. Move the throttle stick to the end position of backward/brake and press the SET button. The Green LED flashes thrice and the motor emits "Beep-Beep-Beep" tone.

When calibration is finished, the motor can start after 3 seconds.

3. Check the LED Status in Normal Running

03 Program the ESC

1. Set the ESC by the SET button

Process:

  1. Turn off the ESC.
  2. Turn on the transmitter.
  3. Hold the SET key.
  4. Switch on the ESC.
  5. Release the SET key when the Red LED flashes.

Programming Navigation:

The Red LED flashes indicate the current value of an item. Press the SET key to choose a value; the Red LED flashes to show the selected option number (e.g., once for the 1st option, twice for the 2nd).

To enter a programmable item, press the SET key. To select a value for that item, hold the SET key for 3 seconds.

Example Navigation:

Value Selection Example:

Note: For items with serial numbers greater than 5, a long flash and long "Beep--" tone represent "5" to aid identification. For example, "A long time flash + 1 short time flash" (Motor sounds "B--B") indicates item No. 6.

After finishing programming, switch off and then switch on the ESC.

2. Set the ESC by Program Card

The Program Card is an optional device sold separately. It features 3 digital LEDs to display programmable item and option numbers, making it portable and easy to use. Refer to the program card's user manual for detailed information.

04 Reset All Items to Default Values

At any time when the throttle is in the neutral position (and not in throttle calibration or parameter programming), press and hold the "SET" key for over 3 seconds. The Red and Green LEDs will blink simultaneously, indicating that all programmable items have been reset to their default values. A restart is required to complete the process.

05 Programmable Items

Detailed Descriptions:

  1. Running Mode:
    • "Forward with Brake": Allows forward movement and braking; no reverse. Suitable for competition.
    • "Forward / Reverse with Brake": Includes reverse function. Suitable for daily training. Uses a "Double-click" method for reverse: first click brakes, second click reverses if the motor has stopped. Prevents accidental reverse during braking. Moving throttle forward immediately resumes forward motion.
    • "Forward/Reverse": Uses a "single-click" method for reverse. Vehicle reverses immediately when throttle moves from neutral to backward. Commonly used by rock crawlers.
  2. Drag Brake Force: Sets the amount of drag brake applied at neutral throttle to simulate the coasting effect of a brushed motor.
  3. Low Voltage Cut-Off: Prevents Lipo battery over-discharge. If battery voltage drops below the threshold for 2 seconds, output power is reduced by 70%; after 10 seconds, output is shut off, and the Red LED flashes "-, -, -". Stop the car immediately.

    Note on NiMH batteries: If total NiMH voltage > 9.0V, it's treated as 3S LiPo. If < 9.0V, it's treated as 2S LiPo. Example: 8.0V NiMH with 2.6V/Cell threshold is treated as 2S LiPo, so cut-off is 2.6V * 2 = 5.2V.

  4. Start Mode (Punch/Acceleration): Level 1 offers soft acceleration; Level 9 offers very quick acceleration. Higher levels require batteries with strong discharge capability for optimal burst start effect. Motor cogging may indicate weak battery discharge; use a better battery or increase gear ratio.
  5. Maximum Brake Force: Proportional brake force related to throttle stick position. Maximum brake force is at the backward end point. High brake force can shorten stopping time but may damage gears.
  6. Maximum Reverse Force: Sets the power applied in the reverse direction.
  7. Initial Brake Force: Also called "minimum brake force". It's the force at the initial backward throttle position. Default is equal to drag brake force for smooth braking.
  8. Throttle Neutral Range: Adjusts the width of the neutral throttle range.
  9. Timing: Fine-tunes motor output power. Higher timing increases motor speed and output. Boost Timing technology allows significant speed increase in sensored mode. When increasing timing, enlarge gear ratio and monitor motor/ESC temperatures.

⚠️ ATTENTION: The reference gear ratios are based on 1/10 RC cars with 2S Lipo and 0 timing ESC. If ESC timing is increased, gear ratio needs to be increased accordingly. Pay attention to ESC and motor temperatures to avoid damage.

Note: "T" indicates the limit value of motor turns when ESC timing is set to 0 degrees. Higher timing requires more motor turns. Carefully monitor motor and ESC temperatures.
