Fabric Compatibility and Settings
The Tefal FV49xxxx Smart Protect steam iron offers two primary settings for ironing:
- TURBO: For maximum steam output.
- normal: Standard ironing setting.
- eco: Energy-saving setting.
With the "normal" or "eco" settings, you can iron various fabric types, including:
- Linen
- Denim
- Silk
- Cotton
- Polyester
- Wool
- Viscose
Always check the garment's care label to ensure it is suitable for ironing. Avoid ironing fabrics marked as non-ironable.
Key Features and Operation
AUTO-OFF Safety System
For your safety, the iron is equipped with an automatic shut-off feature:
- The iron will automatically turn off if left unattended in an upright position for 8 minutes.
- It will turn off after 5 minutes if left tilted on its soleplate.
The AUTO-OFF indicator will flash, and the iron may beep to signal it is shutting down. To resume ironing, press the temperature control button.
Water Filling
Before filling, ensure the iron is unplugged and has cooled down. Open the water tank cap and fill with water up to the MAX marking, as indicated in the user manual diagrams.
Steam and Spray Functions
Use the spray function [?] for stubborn creases by pressing the spray button.
For an extra burst of steam to tackle tough wrinkles, press the steam boost button [?].
The iron provides continuous steam during normal operation.
Vertical Steaming
The iron can be used for vertical steaming of hanging garments, curtains, or drapes. Hold the iron upright and press the steam button.
Anti-Drip Function
This feature prevents water from dripping from the soleplate when the iron is at low temperatures, protecting delicate fabrics.
Anti-Calc System
To maintain the iron's performance and longevity, the anti-calc system helps prevent mineral build-up. Regular rinsing of the soleplate is recommended as per the instructions.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Ensure the iron is unplugged and completely cool before performing any maintenance.
Cleaning the Soleplate: Gently wipe the soleplate with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn residue, use a mild household cleaner or a specialized iron soleplate cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials.
Descaling: Regular descaling is important for optimal steam performance. Follow the specific descaling instructions provided in the full user manual, which typically involves rinsing the soleplate with water.
