Tangerine BYO Router Setup
FTTP Connections
Step 1: Locate the NBN Connection Box
Find the NBN Connection Box that has been installed inside your property.
The diagram shows two boxes: an 'nbn utility box' and an 'nbn connection box'. The utility box is located outside the premises, and the connection box is inside.
Step 2: Open the NBN Connection Box
Gently lift the cover of the NBN Connection Box. To do this, press the two clips on either side and lift the cover at an angle.
The diagram illustrates how to release the clips and open the box.
Step 3: Check Connection Box Lights
Ensure that the power cable is securely in place. Verify that the Power and Optical lights on the Connection Box are showing as steady green.
The diagram shows a row of lights labeled 'POWER', 'OPTICAL', 'UNI-V', and 'UNI-D 1' through 'UNI-D 4', with 'OPTICAL' and 'UNI-V' illuminated green.
Step 4: Connect Your Router
Look on the underside of the NBN Connection Box for the Uni-D ports, which are typically surrounded by yellow.
Using an Ethernet network cable, connect your router's WAN port to the relevant Uni-D port on the NBN Connection Box. Tangerine Telecom usually activates the next available Uni-D port, starting with Uni-D 1. The specific Uni-D port number will be provided via email.
The diagram shows a router with ports labeled 'WAN', 'LAN', 'RESET', and 'POWER'. It also shows an Ethernet cable connecting the router's WAN port to a Uni-D port on the NBN Connection Box.
Step 5: Access Router Configuration
Connect a computer or laptop to your BYO router via a cable or Wi-Fi. Access the router configuration page. If you are unsure how to do this, consult your router's user guide.
Step 6: Configure Router Settings
Most routers come with a Quick Start Guide or Setup Wizard. Follow these steps, ensuring your router is configured in WAN mode and encapsulation is set to PPPoE. Leave other settings as default unless otherwise specified. Configure your BYO router using the ISP username and password provided by Tangerine Telecom via email and SMS.
Due to the variety of router brands, specific setup instructions can vary. It is recommended to consult your router's user guide or the manufacturer for precise setup information.
Step 7: Verify Connection
After configuring your BYO router, wait a few minutes for it to connect to the network. The authentication light (often labeled 'Internet', 'www', or 'Web') should become lit and steady (not flashing). Consult your router's user guide if you are unsure which light indicates authentication.
