Important Safety Instructions

Read these instructions carefully before using the product for the first time. Keep these instructions for future reference. Heed all warnings and follow all instructions.

Warning: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture.

Caution: This product utilizes a laser. Use of controls or adjustments other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure. Do not open covers and do not repair yourself. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

This product complies with DHHS Rules 21 CFR Subchapter J. Applicable at the date of manufacture.

The power cord can be unplugged to turn off the main power to the unit. It should also be easily accessible in an emergency.

Leave sufficient space around the appliance for adequate ventilation: 10cm on either side and at the back, as well as 7cm above it are ideal.

This symbol indicates “dangerous voltage” inside the product that presents a risk of electric shock or personal injury.

Product Overview

The RCA DRC279 is a DVD player designed for home entertainment.

Basic Connection

Note: Whenever connecting system cables, turn off the power and remove the power cord from the wall outlet.

Audio/Video Connection:

Note: If your TV only has an RF jack, you will need an RF modulator (not provided).

Region Information: This DVD player is designed for Region No. 1 discs.

Other Connection Options

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface): Provides optimum picture quality with uncompressed digital video and audio data. Ensure the HDMI Setup option in the menu system matches your TV's resolution.

DIGITAL OUT COAXIAL (Audio): Use the Coaxial Output jack to connect your DVD player to a Dolby Digital receiver or decoder using a coaxial cable (not supplied).

Connecting TV with DVI input: Use an HDMI to DVI cable (not supplied). Since DVI connections do not carry audio, you will need to connect the DVD Player’s AUDIO jacks to your TV’s audio input jacks. Alternatively, use the digital coaxial output jack to connect to an audio receiver with a digital input jack.

Front Panel Controls

Remote Control

Basic Functions:

Note: Point the remote control unit no more than 6m from the remote sensor and within about 45° of the front of the unit.

Battery Installation:

  1. Remove the battery cover.
  2. Insert one battery (CR2025), ensuring polarity (+/–) matches the marks inside the unit.
  3. Replace the cover.

Caution: Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Dispose of batteries properly. Do not attempt to recharge, short-circuit, disassemble, heat, or throw the battery into fire.

Note: A battery is included with the remote control. Remove the protective film before first use.

Basic Playback Operations

Turning on the DVD Player:

  1. Plug the power cord into the outlet after connecting the DVD player to your TV.
  2. Turn on the TV and tune to its Video Input Channel, if necessary.
  3. Press the ON/STANDBY button on the DVD player or remote control.
  4. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray.
  5. Place a disc with the label facing up.
  6. Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the tray. Playback starts automatically. If a menu appears, select an option to start playing.
  7. Press STOP to stop playback. The player remembers the stop point. Press PLAY to resume. Press STOP twice to stop completely or restart from the beginning. The screen saver activates after five minutes of inactivity in STOP mode.

Picture Scan: Press FWD or REV repeatedly to scan faster. Press ENTER/PLAY or continue pressing FWD/REV to resume normal playback.

Freeze Frame and Frame Advance: Press PAUSE/STEP while playing to freeze the picture. Press PAUSE/STEP repeatedly to advance frame by frame. Press ENTER/PLAY to resume normal playback.

Slow Motion: Press PAUSE/STEP, then press REV or FWD repeatedly to select slow motion speed. Press ENTER/PLAY to resume normal playback.

Chapter/Track Advance: Press or to skip forward or backward a chapter or track. Use numeric buttons for direct access.

Advanced Playback Operations

Title/Chapter/Time Search: Press SEARCH repeatedly to select search option (Title/Chapter, Title/Time, Chapter/Time). Use navigation buttons and number buttons to enter desired values. Playback starts from the entered point.

Zoom: Press ZOOM to zoom in on the image. Press ZOOM repeatedly for higher magnification. Use navigation buttons to pan the zoomed image. For JPEG files, press ZOOM to select zoom levels.

Repeat Playback: Press REPEAT/A-B to select repeat modes: Title repeat, Chapter repeat, A-B repeat, or Off for DVDs. For CDs: current track repeat, all tracks repeat, A-B repeat, or Off.

A-B Repeat: Press REPEAT/A-B three times at the start of a segment (A). Play to the end of the segment (B) or use FWD to advance. Press REPEAT/A-B again at point B. The segment repeats until REPEAT/A-B is pressed to resume normal playback.

Audio: Press AUDIO to select available audio tracks or formats (if supported by the disc).

Subtitle: Press SUBTITLE to select subtitle language or turn subtitles on/off (if supported by the disc).

Display: Press DISPLAY to view playback information. Press repeatedly to scroll through information.

Note: Disc software may override some language preferences. If a language is not available on the disc, the disc's default language will be chosen.

Playback of JPEG Files

The player can play JPEG image files (resolution less than 5 megapixels).

  1. Open the tray, place a disc with the printed side up, and close the tray.
  2. Select a folder using navigation buttons, press ENTER/PLAY to view contents.
  3. Select a file using navigation buttons, press ENTER/PLAY to start playback.
  4. Press STOP to stop playback. Press navigation buttons to go back or next file.

During playback, press navigation buttons to flip image horizontally or vertically.

Repeat Play Modes for JPEG Files: Press REPEAT/A-B to select Repeat one or Repeat all. Press REPEAT/A-B until “Off” appears to cancel repeat playback.

Troubleshooting

Product Registration

Complete and mail the Product Registration Card packed with your unit. Registering makes it easier to contact you if necessary. The return of the card is not required for warranty coverage.

Proof of Purchase: Keep your sales receipt for warranty service. Record model and serial numbers (located on the back of the player).

Limited Warranty (US)

What is covered: Defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase.

What RCA will do: Provide a new or refurbished unit. The exchange unit is under warranty for the remainder of the original product's warranty period.

How to make a claim: Properly pack the unit, including accessories. Include proof of purchase date (bill of sale). Print your name, address, and a description of the defect. Send to Thomson Inc., Product Exchange Center, 11721 B Alameda Avenue, Socorro, Texas 79927.

What is not covered: Customer instruction, installation/setup adjustments, batteries, damage from misuse or neglect, modified products, products purchased/serviced outside the USA, acts of nature (e.g., lightning damage).

Limitation of Warranty: The stated warranty is the only applicable warranty. All other warranties, express or implied, are disclaimed. Thomson Inc. is not liable for incidental or consequential damages. This warranty is governed by the laws of the State of Indiana.

How state law relates: Some states do not allow limitations on incidental/consequential damages or implied warranty duration, so these limitations may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary from state to state.

If purchased outside the USA: This warranty does not apply. Contact your dealer for warranty information.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.
