Helpful Hints
- Keep your Brewer turned 'ON' at all times. To brew a fresh cup of coffee, tea or hot cocoa anytime you want, Keurig suggests keeping the Brewer turned 'ON' all the time. The Brewer is programmable for automatic on/off or timed shut-off. Refer to pages 9 and 10 for programming instructions.
- For the best tasting gourmet coffee, tea or hot cocoa, Keurig recommends using bottled or filtered water. Water quality varies; if your coffee tastes undesirable due to chlorine or minerals, consider bottled water or a filtration system.
- Choose from four serving sizes. Keurig Brewers offer five size options: a stronger small cup (5.25 oz.), a small mug (7.25 oz.), a large mug (9.25 oz.), a travel mug (11.25 oz.), and an iced beverage setting (3.25 oz.). Follow instructions on page 7.
NOTE: For a stronger tasting cup of coffee, try Keurig's Extra Bold K-Cups, which contain 30% more ground coffee. Visit www.keurig.com for over 200 varieties.
- Plug Brewer into its own grounded outlet. Overloading a circuit with other appliances may prevent proper function. The Brewer should be on its own circuit, separate from other appliances.
- Brewing into a travel mug. Remove the Drip Tray Assembly and place the travel mug on the Drip Tray Base.
Unpacking Instructions
- Place the Brewer box on a large steady surface (table, countertop, or floor) and open it.

Stopping the Brew Process
If you need to stop brewing, press and release the Power Switch to turn the Brewer 'OFF'. The flow of coffee, tea, or hot cocoa will stop, the heating element will shut off, and the blue lights on the LCD Control Center and Water Reservoir will disappear.
NOTE: You may get less coffee, tea, or hot cocoa in your cup during your next brew. It is recommended to perform a cleansing brew with water only after a terminated brew. Your next brew will then be the selected volume.
Adding Water
The LCD Control Center will indicate low water level or a removed reservoir by displaying 'ADD WATER'. Brewing cannot be initiated when 'ADD WATER' is displayed.
The Water Reservoir can be filled in two ways:
- Lift the Water Reservoir Lid and pour water directly into the reservoir while it's attached to the Brewer, then replace the lid.
- Remove the Water Reservoir by lifting the lid, then lifting the reservoir straight up and toward the front. Fill with water, replace it on the Brewer, and then replace the lid.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove the Water Reservoir during the brewing process.
Brewing Hot Water
Your Brewer can produce hot water for hot chocolate packets, cooking, soups, etc. Follow the instructions on page 7 ('Ready To Brew Your First Cup') without inserting a K-Cup Portion Pack.
NOTE: After brewing a hot cocoa K-Cup, run a hot water brew cycle without a K-Cup.
Purging the Brewer
If the Brewer has not been used for over a week, purge the water from the inner tank:
- If water is in the reservoir, remove the lid, lift the reservoir straight up and toward the front. Discard water, rinse, and refill with bottled or filtered water. Replace the reservoir and lid. (If no water, simply refill.)
- Ensure the Brewer is on. Raise and lower the handle without inserting a K-Cup portion pack.
- The LCD Control Center will display 'READY TO BREW', and the 'LEFT', 'RIGHT', and 'BREW' Buttons will flash. Place a 12 oz. mug on the Drip Tray and select the Travel Mug size.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 two more times to completely purge water from the inner tank.

- Press 'MENU' once to exit. The LCD will display the chosen size.
Section 3: Cleaning & Maintenance
Cleaning External Parts
Regular cleaning of external components is recommended.
- Never immerse the base unit in water or other liquids. Clean housing and external components with a soapy, damp, non-abrasive cloth.
- The Drip Tray can hold up to 12 oz. of overflow. Inspect and rinse the Drip Tray and Drip Tray Plate regularly. To remove, slide towards you, keeping level to avoid spills. The Drip Tray and Drip Tray Plate are dishwasher safe.
Cleaning the K-Cup Portion Pack Holder Assembly
- Cleaning the Parts The K-Cup Holder Assembly is dishwasher safe. To remove, open the cover by lifting the Handle. Grasp the top of the K-Cup Holder with one hand and push up from the bottom with the other until it releases. After cleaning, align the K-Cup Holder with the opening using the two front ribs as a guide and snap into place from the top.
Diagram showing the K-Cup Holder Assembly, including the K-Cup Holder and the Funnel, with labels indicating how they fit together.
- Cleaning the Funnel The Funnel removes from the K-Cup Holder by pulling until it snaps off. It is dishwasher safe. Reattach by snapping it back into the assembly.
- Cleaning the Exit Needle The Exit Needle is at the bottom inside of the K-Cup Holder Assembly. If clogged by coffee grounds, use a paper clip or similar tool. Remove the K-Cup Holder, insert the paper clip into the needle to loosen the clog, and push it out. The K-Cup Holder is dishwasher safe.
CAUTION: There are sharp needles that puncture the K-Cup above the K-Cup Holder and in the bottom of the K-Cup Holder. To avoid risk of injury, do not put your fingers in the K-Cup Chamber.
Cleaning the Water Reservoir and Water Reservoir Lid
Clean the Water Reservoir Lid with a damp, soapy, non-abrasive cloth. Do not put the lid in the dishwasher.
The Water Reservoir can be dishwasher cleaned or washed with soapy water and rinsed thoroughly.
Do not dry the inside of the Water Reservoir with a cloth, as lint may remain.
CAUTION: Rinse the Water Reservoir thoroughly after cleaning to ensure no cleaners remain, as they could contaminate the water supply.
De-Scaling Your Brewer
Mineral content in water varies. Calcium deposits or scale can build up, hindering performance. De-scaling maintains the heating element and internal parts. De-scale every 3-6 months, or more often if needed.
The Brewer has sensors to detect scale buildup. When detected, 'DE-SCALE' displays on the LCD Control Center. Promptly de-scale by following the procedure.
NOTE: The Brewer continues to function when 'DE-SCALE' is displayed. However, delayed de-scaling can cause damage. If damage occurs, 'DE-SCALE' will flash to alert you.
The LCD Control Center displays 'DE-SCALE' with the MENU and BREW buttons illuminated, indicating that a de-scaling procedure is required.
De-Scaling Instructions
a. PREPARE
- Ensure you have at least 60 oz. of undiluted white vinegar, an empty sink, and a ceramic cup (not paper).
- Empty the Water Reservoir.
b. FILL and CLEAN
- Pour vinegar into the Water Reservoir up to the line just below the top edge.
- Place a 12 oz. or larger ceramic cup in the Drip Tray. Run a brew cycle using the Travel Mug (large) size. DO NOT USE A K-CUP portion pack. Pour the contents into the sink.
- Repeat the brew process until the Water Reservoir is empty, pouring contents into the sink after each cycle. Open and close the lid between cycles so the button lights flash.
- Let the Brewer stand for at least 4 hours while on.
- Rinse the Water Reservoir thoroughly and fill with fresh water.
c. RINSE
- Ensure the Water Reservoir is filled with fresh water.
- Place a ceramic cup on the Drip Tray and run a travel mug brew cycle. Pour contents into the sink.
- Repeat the brew process until the Water Reservoir is empty.
- Perform additional rinse cycles if any residual taste is detected.
NOTE: If 'DE-SCALE' remains displayed after the procedure, repeat it.
Storage
Empty the Water Reservoir before storing. Store the Brewer in a safe, frost-free environment, upright, to prevent water leakage. Storing in a cold environment risks freezing and damage. Before reuse after storage, rinse the reservoir with fresh water and run three cleansing brews without a K-Cup.
If moving the Brewer, turn it off, unplug it, and empty the reservoir. If stored below freezing temperatures, allow it to warm to room temperature for at least 2 hours before use.
