Alpinestars Valparaiso v2 Drystar Gloves - Important User Information
Certified to EN 13594:2015
Introduction
These gloves are certified to EN 13594:2015 and are considered PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) under Regulation (EU) 2016/425. An EU Type examination has been conducted by the notified body indicated on the back cover. This booklet is important for selecting the correct size and maintaining the gloves throughout their lifespan.
Protection Level
EN 13594:2015 certified gloves are available in two protection levels: Level 1 and Level 2. Level 2 gloves offer superior impact resistance and certified knuckle protection but may be heavier and bulkier. For Level 1 gloves, certified knuckle protection is optional and indicated in the marking. Choose gloves that provide the best performance for your riding type.
Refer to the table on the back cover along with the legend on the inside cover of this manual.
Limitations on Use
Despite the indicated protection levels, these gloves provide LIMITED PROTECTION against abrasion or lacerations from blunt objects or road surfaces, and (if 'KP' declared) minor impacts. No glove can offer complete protection against any kind of injury in case of falls, collisions, impacts, loss of motorcycle control, or other events, especially if hands or fingers become trapped under the motorcycle or impact obstacles during an accident.
Alpinestars makes no guarantees regarding the gloves' ability to avoid injury risk while riding. These gloves are designed exclusively for motorcycling and are not intended for other sports, non-sporting, or industrial activities.
Environmental conditions (high or low temperatures) can change glove characteristics and reduce performance.
Sizing
For certified protection, correct glove fit is crucial. Glove size is based on palm circumference (excluding the thumb), as shown in Figure 1. Measure your palm and use Table 1 to convert it to the letter size (S, M, L) indicated on the glove marking.

Fitting
It is strongly recommended to check the glove fit before purchase, preferably with the jacket you will normally wear. Select a starting size from Table 1, put on the glove, and adjust the fastening(s) at the cuff and/or wrist. The wrist fastening should be pulled as tight as comfortable and secured with the hook-and-loop strap. The glove's wrist fastening is correctly secured when the cuff and strap overlap, leaving no skin exposed. The cuff fastening should be closed tightly to follow the jacket sleeve (if worn over the jacket) or your arm (if worn under the jacket). Check that the glove cannot be easily removed by pulling it with your other hand.
For waterproof gloves, wear them UNDER your jacket if your wrist is lower than your elbow, and OVER your jacket if your wrist is higher than your elbow.
Open your hand flat. There should be no material contacting your fingertips. The glove should feel snug but not restrictive, allowing sufficient hand movement. Make a fist or grip a motorcycle handlebar. Ensure fingertips do not touch or only lightly touch the material, and that there are no large folds of material on the palm. Ensure sufficient finger movement to operate motorcycle controls correctly.
Note: Leather gloves may feel slightly tighter initially as they will stretch over time to conform to your hand. For winter gloves, a slightly looser fit is recommended to allow air circulation for insulation.
Use
Before riding, put on and fasten the gloves as instructed. At all times while riding, ensure gloves are correctly and tightly fastened. For safe motorcycling, the entire body must be protected. Wear CE-certified gloves with appropriate motorcycle clothing, boots, and a helmet.
Care / Cleaning – Leather Gloves
- After riding, clean gloves with a damp cloth.
- For stubborn stains, use neutral soap or a leather cleaner for motorcycle clothing. Do not use hot water, chemical agents, or solvents.
- Avoid contact with solvents (including petrol) as they can degrade materials and affect colors.
- Wearing leather gloves in rain is not recommended as it can dry out the leather and compromise its strength over time.
- If gloves become wet, let them dry naturally in a warm, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Do not wring them out or place them near heat sources over 40°C, as this can stiffen the leather and compromise its quality.
Care / Cleaning – Textile Gloves
- After riding, clean gloves with a damp cloth.
- Allow to dry naturally in a warm, well-ventilated area. Note that drying restrictions for leather patches on the palm follow the same guidelines as for leather gloves.
- Avoid contact with solvents (including petrol) as they can degrade materials and affect colors.
- For waterproof gloves, be cautious when handling sharp objects that could pierce the waterproof lining.
- Regular cleaning (preferably after each use) is recommended to prevent dirt, insect marks, and grease buildup, making cleaning easier. Do not clean under running water. Follow washing instructions on the gloves. For deep cleaning, use a soft, non-abrasive damp cloth with neutral soap, using gentle circular motions. Do not rub aggressively or use detergents other than neutral soap, chemical agents, or solvents.
Storage and Transport
Ensure gloves are completely dry before storing. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent mildew or degradation. Do not store in sealed bags or containers, or under heavy objects. When transporting, avoid placing heavy objects on the gloves that could bend or crease them.
Maintenance
Periodically inspect gloves for damage such as excessive wear, abrasion, holes, open seams, or malfunctioning fasteners. If damage or fastener issues occur, discontinue use and replace the gloves. After an accident, conduct the same checks before reusing the gloves.
All protective items degrade over time due to use, wear, accidents, care, storage, and environmental conditions. Gloves have a defined lifespan. It is recommended to have them inspected by an authorized Alpinestars dealer every 5 years from the date of first use.
