This instruction manual contains instructions for safety, operation, and maintenance. It is essential to read and follow all instructions and warnings in the manual before assembly, setup, or use so that it can be operated properly and to avoid damage or serious injury.

General Warnings for Battery Charging

WARNING: Inattention or improper use of the product in connection with the following warnings can lead to malfunctions, electrical disturbances, excessive heat generation, FIRE, and fatal injuries and property damage.

  • NEVER LEAVE THE POWER SUPPLY, CHARGER, AND BATTERY UNATTENDED DURING OPERATION.
  • NEVER ATTEMPT TO CHARGE DEEPLY DISCHARGED, DAMAGED, OR WET BATTERIES.
  • Never charge battery packs consisting of different cell types.
  • Never allow children under 14 years to charge batteries.
  • Never charge batteries in extreme heat or cold or in direct sunlight.
  • Do not charge batteries whose cable is punctured or cut.
  • Never connect the charger if the cable is punctured or cut.
  • Never connect the charger to a 12-volt car battery with the engine running.
  • Never attempt to disassemble the charger or operate a damaged charger.
  • Never connect the charger to both an AC and a DC power source simultaneously.
  • Never connect the DC input to an AC power source.
  • Only use rechargeable batteries that are suitable for charging with this charger.
  • Always check the battery before charging.
  • Keep the battery away from materials that can be affected by heat.
  • Always observe the charging process and keep a fire extinguisher ready at all times.

• Immediately stop the charging process if the battery becomes too hot to touch, or if its shape changes (swells).

• First connect the charging cable to the charger and then the battery to avoid reverse polarity. Disconnect the connection in the reverse order after charging.

• Always connect the positive red (+) terminals and negative black (-) terminals correctly.

• After charging, disconnect the battery from the charger and allow the charger to cool down between charging cycles.

• Always charge in well-ventilated areas.

• In case of malfunctions, immediately stop all processes and contact Horizon Hobby.

WARNING: Never leave the charger unattended. Never exceed the maximum charge current. Never charge unsuitable batteries or batteries in the wrong mode. Incorrect or improper operation can lead to excessive heat, fire, or fatal injuries.

ATTENTION: Please always ensure that the batteries used match the charger's specifications and that the charger's settings are correctly configured. Failure to do so can lead to excessive heat and further malfunctions, which can cause personal injury or property damage. Please contact Horizon Hobby or an authorized dealer if you have questions about battery compatibility.

Product Diagram and Controls

The charger features several ports and controls on its front and rear panels:

  • Front Panel:
    • A: Power Switch: The main power switch for the unit.
    • B: Power Input: AC input socket for the 100-240V power adapter.
    • C: USB Input: Used for firmware updates.
    • D: USB Output: A power output port.
    • E: Display Screen: Shows charging status, settings, and information.
    • F: Up/Down Menu Buttons: Used to navigate through menus and adjust values.
    • G: Back Menu Button: Used to return to the previous menu.
    • H: IC3/IC5 Charge Port Slider: A cover that slides to reveal either the IC3 or IC5 charge connector.
    • I: Select Menu Button: Used to select menu items or confirm settings.
    • J: Balance Connector: Port for connecting the battery's balance lead.
    • K: IC5 Battery Charge Port: The charge connector for IC5 type batteries.
    • L: IC3 Battery Charge Port: The charge connector for IC3 type batteries.

Note on Charge Ports: Each charge port can be used with an IC3 or IC5 connector. Slide the port cover down to use the IC3 connector and slide it up to use the IC5 connector. Do not remove the charge port cover.

Operating the Charger

Before operating the charger, read your battery's specifications and all battery-specific safety instructions.

  1. Connect the supplied AC power cable to the charger and the appropriate power adapter to turn on your S1100 Smart Charger. Turn the charger on using the power switch on the back of the unit. The charger will power on and display the startup screen after the power switch is set to "ON".
  2. Connect the battery to the port on the front of the charger.
  3. Connect the battery's balance lead, if applicable, to the balance connector located to the right of the IC3 and IC5 connectors. Ensure the balance lead is correctly positioned to the left side of the balance connector.

Smart-Akkus (Smart Batteries): When charging a Spektrum Smart-Akku, the number of battery cells, battery type, battery charge current, and battery capacity are automatically configured. The charger will automatically begin the charging process when the battery and balance lead (if applicable) are connected to the charger. G1 Spektrum Smart-Akkus are compatible with G2 Spektrum Smart Chargers.

  1. Press and release the Menu/Select button to display the charger settings list:

  1. Select the desired Task [Task].
  2. Ensure the settings for the battery being charged are correct.

WARNING: Always check the charging parameters before starting the charging process. Charging a battery with incorrect settings, including charging a battery in the wrong mode, can lead to property damage and fires.

  1. Scroll to the Start menu item.
  2. Press and release the Menu/Select button to begin the charging process.

During and After Charging

During Charging:

  1. While the battery is charging, the main screen will display:
    • Charge status in percent
    • Battery data
    • Charge current
    • Charged capacity
    • Remaining charge time (Smart-Akkus only)
    • Total charge time
  2. Scroll to the next screen to view cell voltage information.
  3. Scroll to the last screen to view the battery's internal resistance.
  4. When the fast charge cycle is complete, the charger will beep once, and the battery bar will turn green. The charger will balance the battery cells.

To Stop Charging:

  1. During charging, press the Back button or hold the Menu button.
  2. Select the Stop menu item. The charger will abort the charging process. The Ready screen will appear.

WARNING: Always interrupt the charging cycle or the charger's power supply if irregularities occur during charging (e.g., a swollen battery).

When Charging is Complete:

The charger will emit a tone to indicate that fast charging is complete. Once the charger has balanced the battery cells, two double tones will sound.

  1. The main screen will display a green bar at the top to indicate that the battery is fully charged and the charging process is complete.
  2. The total charged capacity and total charge time will be displayed.
  3. Disconnect the battery from the charger. The battery is ready, and the charger will return to the startup screen.

Smart Settings

Smart Settings are available when a Smart-Akku is connected. The Smart Settings include:

  • Auto Storage [Automatic Storage]: Select to perform automatic storage with a delay between 12 and 240 hours.
  • Charge Current [Charge Current]: Change the default charge current for the Smart-Akku.
  • Charge Voltage [Charge Voltage]: Select the charge voltage for the Smart-Akku.
  • Storage Voltage [Storage Voltage]: Select the storage voltage for each cell.
  • Battery History [Battery History]: Provides the number of battery cycles, battery temperature, and production date.
  • Fault Log [Fault Log]: Provides a list of errors, including overvoltage, undervoltage, or overtemperature, and the date of the occurrence.
  • Back [Back]: Return to the startup screen.

System Settings

Adjust various system parameters:

  • Backlight [Backlight]: Options for Low, Medium, High.
  • Volume [Volume]: Options for Off, Low, Middle, High.
  • Completion Tone [Completion Tone]: Single or Repeat tone.
  • Touch Sensitivity [Touch Sensitivity]: Options for Low, High.
  • Language [Language]: Select the language.
  • System Self-Checking [System Self-Checking]: Initiates a self-test of the charger. Do not connect a battery to the output while the self-test is running.
  • System Information [System Information]: Displays the charger's firmware version.
  • Back [Back]: Return to the startup screen.

Charge Errors

If the charger displays an error, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the error. If necessary, disconnect the battery from the output and balance connectors, disconnect the power supply, and restart the charger.

Warranty and Service Information

Warning: A remote-controlled model is not a toy. If used improperly, it can cause significant injury to living beings and damage to property. Operate your RC model only in open areas and observe all instructions in the model's and remote control's manuals.

Warranty Period: Exclusive Warranty Horizon Hobby LLC (Horizon) warrants that the purchased product will be free from material and workmanship defects. The warranty period corresponds to the legal provisions of the country in which the product was purchased. In Germany, the warranty period is 6 months and the warranty period is 18 months after the warranty period.

Warranty Limitations:

  • (a) The warranty is granted only to the original purchaser (buyer) and is non-transferable. The buyer's claim consists of repair or replacement within the scope of this warranty. The warranty extends exclusively to products purchased from an authorized Horizon dealer. Sales to third parties are not covered by this warranty. Warranty claims will only be accepted if valid proof of purchase is provided. Horizon reserves the right to change or modify these warranty terms without notice and will then revoke existing warranty terms.
  • (b) Horizon makes no warranty regarding the merchantability of the product, the buyer's abilities, or fitness for a particular purpose. The buyer is solely responsible for verifying whether the product meets their abilities and intended use.
  • (c) Buyer's Claims: It is at Horizon's sole discretion whether the product, for which a warranty claim has been established, will be repaired or replaced. These are the exclusive claims of the buyer if a defect is found. Horizon reserves the right to inspect all components that may be involved in a warranty claim. The decision to repair or replace rests solely with Horizon. The warranty excludes cosmetic defects or defects caused by force majeure, improper handling of the product, incorrect use of the product, commercial use, or modifications of any kind. The warranty excludes damage caused by incorrect installation, improper handling, accidents, operation, service, or repair attempts not performed by Horizon. Also excluded are cases due to (vii) use that violates applicable laws, statutes, or regulations. Returns by the buyer directly to Horizon or one of its country representatives require written authorization.

Limitation of Damages: Horizon is not responsible for direct or indirect consequential damages, loss of income, or commercial losses that arise in connection with the product, regardless of whether a claim is made under a contract, warranty, or guarantee. Horizon will also not accept any claims from a warranty case that exceed the individual value of the product. Horizon has no influence on the installation, use, or maintenance of the product or any product combinations chosen by the buyer. Horizon makes no warranty and accepts no claims for subsequent injuries or damages. By using and installing the product, the buyer accepts all listed warranty terms without restriction or reservation. If the buyer is unwilling to accept these terms in connection with the use of the product, they are asked to return the product in unused condition in its original packaging to the seller.

Safety Instructions: This is a high-quality hobby product and not a toy. It must be used with caution and care and requires some mechanical and mental skills. Failure to operate the product safely and carefully can lead to injuries to living beings and significant property damage. This product is not intended for use by children without the supervision of a guardian. The manual contains safety instructions and regulations as well as tips for maintenance and operation of the product. It is essential to read and understand these instructions before initial use. Only then can improper handling be prevented and accidents with injuries and damage be avoided.

Questions, Help, and Repairs: Your local specialist dealer and point of sale cannot carry out a warranty assessment without consulting Horizon. This also applies to warranty repairs. Therefore, in such a case, contact the dealer who will consult with Horizon to make a proper decision that helps you as quickly as possible.

Maintenance and Repair: If your product needs maintenance or repair, contact either your specialist dealer or Horizon directly. Returns / Repairs will only be processed with an RMA number issued by Horizon. You or your specialist dealer will receive this number from technical service. More information can be found in the service portal at www.Horizonhobby.de or by calling Horizon's technical service. Pack the product carefully. Note that the original packaging is usually not sufficient to prevent damage during shipping. Use a shipping service with tracking and insurance, as Horizon is not responsible for the shipment until it is received. Please include proof of purchase, a detailed description of the fault, and a list of all components sent. We also require your complete contact information.

Warranty and Repairs: Warranty inquiries will only be processed if an original proof of purchase from an authorized dealer is enclosed, showing the buyer and the date of purchase. If a warranty case is confirmed, the product will be repaired or replaced. This decision rests solely with Horizon Hobby. Paid Repairs: For paid repairs, we will create a cost estimate which we will forward to your dealer. The repair will only be carried out once we receive approval from the dealer. The repair cost is to be paid to your dealer. For paid repairs, at least 30 minutes of workshop time and return shipping costs will be charged. If we do not receive confirmation for repair within 90 days, we reserve the right to destroy or otherwise utilize the product. ATTENTION: We only perform paid repairs for electronics and motors. Mechanical repairs, especially for helicopters and RC cars, are extremely complex and must therefore be carried out by the buyer themselves.
