Understanding Your DIRECTV Remotes

This guide provides detailed information on the functions of DIRECTV Genie and Universal remotes, along with instructions for programming them to control your entertainment system.

Genie Remote Functions

Genie Remote Button Functions

ON/OFF: Turns both DIRECTV Receiver and TV ON or OFF at the same time. (Remote must be programmed for TV. HD DVR still records when off.)
GUIDE: Press once for On-Screen GUIDE. Press twice for programming grouped into categories.
RECORD: Record program now playing or highlighted in the On-Screen Guide. Press twice to record the entire series.
RED CIRCLE BUTTON: Press to delete recorded shows from your playlist.
MUTE: Mute the sound.
REPLAY: Replay previous six seconds.
REWIND: Rewind at increasing speeds—press up to four times.
PLAY/PAUSE: Play current program. Press once while program is playing to PAUSE.
DASH: Press for Guide Options while viewing On-Screen Guide. Press for playlist options while viewing playlist. Press to display last 6 digits of receiver ID, satellite signal type (SWIM or Multiswitch) and Internet status.
LIST: Display the LIST of your recorded programs.
EXIT: EXIT the menu and return to previous channel viewed.
SELECT: SELECT item highlighted on screen.
INFO: Display INFORMATION about the program now playing or highlighted in the On-Screen Guide.
PREV: Return to PREVIOUS channel viewed.
ADVANCE: ADVANCE 30 seconds. Press and hold to jump ahead to the end of a recorded program.
FAST-FORWARD: FAST-FORWARD at increasing speeds—press up to four times.
ENTER: Press for Mini Guide while viewing your program and dismiss with EXIT. ENTER also replaces TV INPUT button: to cycle through the equipment connected to your TV, press and hold for three seconds until LED light at top turns green. Then scroll through inputs by pressing ENTER again.

Universal Remote Functions

Universal Remote Button Functions

TV INPUT: Cycles through the equipment connected to your TV.
FORMAT: Displays current screen FORMAT options and HD resolutions. (Works only with HD Access.)
STOP: STOP playback while viewing recorded program.
REPLAY: REPLAY previous six seconds.
REWIND: REWIND at increasing speeds—press up to four times. Press and hold to jump to previous tick mark.
PLAY: PLAY current program.
PAUSE: PAUSE current program.
GUIDE: Press once for On-Screen Guide. Press twice for programming grouped into categories.
RED BUTTON: Jump back 12 hours while viewing the On-Screen Guide.
GREEN BUTTON: Jump ahead 12 hours while viewing the On-Screen Guide.
DASH: Press DASH twice to delete recorded shows from your list.
MODE: Changes the remote's MODE to control other equipment. (Far left selection indicates the DIRECTV Receiver.)

PWR: Turns On/Off POWER of whichever equipment is selected.
ADVANCE: ADVANCE 30 seconds.

EXIT: EXIT the menu and return to previous channel viewed.
LIST: Display the LIST of your recorded programs.
BLUE BUTTON: Display a one-line Channel Guide while viewing your program.
YELLOW BUTTON: Display guide options while viewing the On-Screen Guide.
PREV: Return to PREVIOUS channel viewed.

Programming Your Genie Remote

For use with Genie HD DVR (model HR44 or above), Genie Mini (model C41 or above, C41W or above, C61K or above), Genie Lite™ (model H44) and DIRECTV Ready TV.

Select SETTINGS & HELP, SETTINGS, REMOTE CONTROL
Select IR/RF SETUP
Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight RF.
Press SELECT
Select CONTINUE

Programming Your Universal Remote

Your DIRECTV Universal Remote can control your entire entertainment system—TVs, DVD players, VCRs and stereo systems.

For SD Receivers:

Select PARENTAL, FAV'S & SETUP
Select SYSTEM SETUP
Select REMOTE

For HD Receivers:

Press MENU
Select SETTINGS & HELP
