About AXIS Visitor Entry for Genetec

AXIS Visitor Entry, when installed within Genetec Security Center Synergis™, enables the use of QR Codes as credentials for granting access. These QR Codes can be conveniently distributed to cardholders or visitors, for instance, via email. To open doors, the QR Code is read by an Axis intercom or camera equipped with the AXIS Barcode Reader application.

QR Code® is a registered trademark of Denso Wave Incorporated in Japan and other countries.

System Overview

The system integrates AXIS Visitor Entry with Genetec Security Center to manage visitor access using QR Codes.

System Diagram Description

The system involves the following components and workflow:

  • A: AXIS Visitor Entry for Genetec: The core application for generating visitor credentials.
  • B: QR Code: The digital credential generated and distributed.

Workflow Steps:

  1. Access is managed through Genetec Synergis and its Cardholder Management system.
  2. A QR Code is generated and sent to the visitor/cardholder via AXIS Visitor Entry for Genetec.
  3. The recipient receives the QR Code.
  4. The QR Code is scanned using the AXIS Barcode Reader application embedded in supported Axis devices, which include:
    • Any Axis intercom
    • Certain Axis fixed box cameras
    • Certain Axis modular cameras
  5. The scanned QR Code is processed by a door controller. Axis devices connect to either:
    • E: AXIS A1601 network door controller
    • F: Genetec or other third-party door controllers
  6. Upon successful verification, the door opens.

Connection Types:

  • C: Devices connected by network.
  • D: Devices connected by Wiegand.

Before You Start

Ensure the following prerequisites are met before installation and configuration:

  1. Genetec Security Center version 5.9 or later is installed.
  2. Genetec Security Center Synergis version 10.9.1037.0 or later is installed.
  3. AXIS Visitor Entry for Genetec is added to your Genetec Security Center license. Contact Axis Communications to update your license using the key: GSC-1SDK-AxisQRManager.
  4. AXIS Barcode Reader is required. Download it from the product page: axis.com/products/axis-barcode-reader#download-block.
  5. A door controller must be used. There are two primary connection methods:
    • For Axis Door Controllers:
      • Connection via IP address (refer to page 6). Check the application's product page for camera compatibility and the correct application version.
      • Connection via OSDP/Wiegand (refer to page 6). This is supported by the AXIS A8207-VE Mk II Network Video Door Station.
    • For Third-Party Controllers:
      • Connection via OSDP/Wiegand (refer to page 6). The third-party door controller must be supported by Genetec Security Center Synergis.
