Sonos Move: Portable Smart Speaker

Overview

Sonos Move is a durable, battery-powered smart speaker designed for both indoor and outdoor listening. It features a rechargeable battery with up to 10 hours of playback and can be easily recharged on its charging base. For power on the go, a compatible USB-C charger can be used (sold separately). Its weatherproof design makes it suitable for various outdoor activities. Stream content via WiFi or Bluetooth®. Control your Move using the Sonos S2 or S1 app, the speaker's touch controls, or your voice. It integrates seamlessly with other Sonos speakers for multiroom listening. Refer to the 'Setup' section to add Move to your Sonos System.

Controls and Lights

The Sonos Move features intuitive controls and status lights:

Battery Saver: To conserve battery, Move can be set to power off automatically instead of sleeping. This setting is found under System > Move. The speaker will not appear in the app until powered back on.

Touch Control Disabling: Touch controls can be disabled in the room's settings to prevent accidental adjustments.

Connector Panel

The connector panel on the back of the Sonos Move includes:

  1. Power Button: Press to power on, short press to sleep, long press (5 seconds) to power off. The speaker goes to sleep automatically when not in use if not on the charging base.
  2. Join Button: Used to connect to your Sonos system during setup.
  3. Handle: Toggles between Bluetooth and WiFi modes.
  4. USB-C Port: For charging on the go with a compatible USB-C charger (45W, 20V/2.25A). Also used for diagnostic purposes.
  5. Charging Contacts: Connects to the charging base.
  6. Charging Base: Included for easy recharging.

Note: USB-C cable is not included.

Charging Dock

Place the Sonos Move on the included charging base for convenient recharging without extra wires. Ensure the speaker is properly seated and the charging contacts are aligned. The charging base is for indoor use only.

Location Guidelines

Sonos Move can be placed almost anywhere. For optimal performance:

Bluetooth Pairing

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your device.
  2. Press the mode button on the back of Move to switch to Bluetooth mode.
  3. Select 'Move' from your device's Bluetooth settings. If it doesn't appear, press and hold the mode button until 'Move' appears in the list. A confirmation tone will sound upon successful pairing. Devices will automatically connect in Bluetooth mode on subsequent use.

Switching Modes

After initial WiFi setup, use the mode switch on the back of Move to toggle between Bluetooth and WiFi. First-time Bluetooth use requires pairing with your device.

Charging

Recharge Move by placing it on the charging base. Ensure good contact with the charging pins. For charging on the go, use a compatible USB-C charger (45W, 20V/2.25A).

Microphone On/Off

The microphone enables voice control and features like Trueplay tuning. Press the microphone button (?️) to toggle the microphone and its indicator light. When the light is on, voice control and Trueplay are active. When off, they are inactive. Even with the microphone off, you can activate voice control by pressing and holding the button.

Trueplay™ Tuning

Trueplay tuning analyzes room acoustics and optimizes the speaker's sound. It requires an iOS device (iOS 8 or later). During tuning, you'll move around the room holding your device.

  1. Go to Settings (⚙️) > System, and select the room.
  2. Choose Trueplay Tuning.

Note: Disable VoiceOver on your iOS device before starting Trueplay tuning.

Auto Trueplay

Portable Sonos products like Move can tune themselves automatically using their microphones to adapt to the environment and ensure optimal sound quality wherever they are placed.

Enable Auto Trueplay in Settings (⚙️) > System, and select your portable speaker.

Set Up Stereo Pair

Create a wider stereo experience by pairing two identical Sonos speakers in the same room. One speaker will handle the left channel, and the other the right.

  1. Position the speakers 8 to 10 feet apart. For optimal listening, position yourself 8 to 12 feet from the speakers.
  2. Go to Settings (⚙️) > System.
  3. Select one speaker, then choose Set Up Stereo Pair.

  5. Install away from heat sources.
  6. Do not expose batteries to excessive heat.
  7. Protect the power cable from damage.
  8. Use only manufacturer-specified attachments/accessories.
  9. Unplug during lightning storms or when unused for extended periods.
  10. Refer servicing to qualified Sonos personnel. Servicing is required for damage, exposure to liquid or moisture, abnormal operation, or drops.
  11. The mains plug should be readily accessible for disconnection.

Warning: Sonos Move is water-resistant (IP56). To prevent fire or electric shock, do not expose the apparatus to heavy rain.
