How to Operate
1. Read Safety Instructions: Ensure you read and understand the safety instructions provided in multiple languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech, Russian, Polish).
2. Connect the Battery:
- Connect the positive (+) clamp to the positive terminal of the battery.
- Connect the negative (-) clamp to the negative terminal of the battery or a suitable ground point on the vehicle chassis.
AUTO Program: This program analyzes the battery and selects the optimal current for its size. The AUTO program is disabled when charging lithium batteries.
WARNING: Do not charge Lithium batteries with the Lead-Acid battery program or vice versa.
Lithium Batteries with Discharge Protection
Some Lithium-ion batteries have built-in discharge protection that disconnects the battery to prevent over-discharge. This can prevent the CTEK charger from detecting the battery. To safely bypass this protection, press the START button. The charger will automatically start the charging cycle once the protection is bypassed and the battery is ready.
Lock Buttons
To prevent unauthorized use, the buttons can be locked. Press and hold the Up (▲) and Down (▼) buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to lock or unlock the buttons.
Memory Saver
Use the memory saver feature when using the PRO60 to supply power to the vehicle while the battery is disconnected. Spark protection is disabled when Memory Saver is ON. When supplying power with the battery connected, use Memory Saver OFF.
Charge Modes and Programs
The PRO60 offers various charging programs for different battery types:
Charging Programs: Lead-Acid Batteries
- Desulphation: Detects and removes sulphates from lead plates using pulsing current and voltage to restore battery capacity.
- Soft Start: Tests if the battery can accept charge, preventing charging of defective batteries.
- Bulk: Charges with maximum current until approximately 80% battery capacity.
- Absorption: Charges with declining current to maximize capacity up to 100%.
- Analyse: Tests if the battery can hold charge. Batteries that cannot hold charge may need replacement.
- Recond: (Selectable with Ca/Ca program) Increases voltage to create controlled gassing, mixing battery acid and restoring energy.
- Float: Maintains battery voltage with a constant voltage charge.
- Pulse: Maintains the battery at 95-100% capacity by monitoring voltage and providing pulses as needed.
Charging Programs: Lithium Batteries (LiFePO4)
- Accept: Tests if the battery can accept charge.
- Bulk: Charges with maximum current until approximately 90% capacity.
- Absorption: Charges with declining current to maximize capacity up to 95%.
- Analyse: Tests if the battery can hold charge.
- Completion: Final charge with increased voltage.
- Maximization: Final charge with maximum voltage up to 100% capacity.
- Float: Maintains battery voltage at maximum level with a constant voltage charge.
- Pulse: Maintains the battery at 95-100% capacity.
Charge Modes Table
Mode | Battery Size (Ah) | Explanation | Temperature Range |
---|---|---|---|
NORMAL | 10-1800 Ah | Use for GEL, WET, and MF batteries. | -20°C to +50°C (-4°F to +122°F) |
AGM | 10-1800 Ah | Use for most AGM batteries, including AGM START/STOP types. Check battery manual for lower voltage requirements if unsure. | -20°C to +50°C (-4°F to +122°F) |
Ca/Ca | 10-1800 Ah | Use for Ca/Ca batteries, including AGM START/STOP types. Maximizes charge with minimal fluid loss. | -20°C to +50°C (-4°F to +122°F) |
LITHIUM (LiFePO4) | 15-600 Ah | Use for Lithium batteries (LiFePO4). The 'Auto' function in 'charge options' is not available for Lithium batteries. | -20°C to +50°C (-4°F to +122°F) |
Recommended Current
The following table shows the recommended charging current based on battery size:
Current | Battery Size Min | Battery Size Max |
---|---|---|
5A | 10Ah | 150Ah |
10A | 20Ah | 300Ah |
20A | 40Ah | 600Ah |
30A | 60Ah | 900Ah |
40A | 80Ah | 1200Ah |
50A | 100Ah | 1500Ah |
60A | 120Ah | 1800Ah |
Using a higher current than recommended may result in incomplete charging. Using a lower current will prolong charging time. The currents listed are maximum recommended values. If a parallel consumer is connected, the current setting can be increased by that consumer's current draw.
Ready to Use (Estimated Charging Time)
The table below shows the estimated time to charge a battery from empty to 80% capacity:
Current | 2h | 3h | 4h | 6h | 8h | 12h | 18h | 24h | 36h |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
5A | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ||||||
10A | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ||||||
20A | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ||||||
40A | ✓ | ✓ | |||||||
60A | ✓ | ✓ |

*Back current drain is the current that drains the battery if the charger is not connected to the mains. CTEK chargers have a very low back current.
**The quality of the charging voltage and charging current is very important. A high current ripple heats up the battery, which has an aging effect on the positive electrode. High voltage ripple could harm other equipment connected to the battery. CTEK battery chargers produce very clean voltage and current with low ripple.
Error Displays
If the red error light (?) is illuminated, consult the following:
- Wrong polarity: Reversed polarity or short circuit in charge cables. Action: Connect the charger correctly as per the operating instructions.
- Overvoltage: The charger is connected to a 24 V battery. Action: Connect the charger to a 12 V battery.
- Overtemperature: The battery is too hot to charge. Action: Allow the battery to cool down, or the battery may be damaged and require replacement.
- Broken battery: Action: Check connections and settings, retry charging, and if the issue persists, replace the battery.
