Alcove or Closet Installation:
- Approval for alcove/closet installation is indicated on a label on the dryer back.
- The dryer MUST be exhausted to the outside.
- Minimum clearances to adjacent walls or surfaces are 0" on all sides and top.
- Closet doors must be louvered or ventilated, with a minimum of 60 sq. in. of open area equally distributed. If a washer and dryer are in the same closet, doors need 120 sq. in. of open area.
- No other fuel-burning appliance should be in the same closet with a gas dryer.
Bathroom or Bedroom Installation:
- The dryer MUST be exhausted to the outdoors.
- Installation must comply with local codes, or the National Electric Code and National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223 for gas dryers, in their absence.
Minimum Clearance (Other than Alcove/Closet):
Minimum clearances to combustible surfaces are 0" on all sides and top. A 1/2" clearance on each side is suggested for improved performance.

Dryer Exhausting Information – Metal Duct Only
For complete information, see installation instructions packed with your dryer.
Ducting Materials:
For best performance, use 4" diameter all rigid metal exhaust duct. If rigid metal duct cannot be used, UL-listed flexible metal (semi-rigid) ducting can be used (Kit PM08X10084 or PM08X10085). In special installations, a flexible metal (foil-type) duct may be necessary to connect to the house vent. UL-listed flexible metal (foil-type) duct is permissible ONLY where rigid metal or flexible metal (semi-rigid) ducting cannot be used AND where a 4" diameter is maintained throughout the transition duct. Refer to installation instructions for complete details on using flexible metal (foil type) ducting.
Exhaust Length Calculation:
- Determine the number of 90° turns needed. Add one turn if exhausting to the side or bottom of the dryer.
- The maximum length of 4" rigid (aluminum or galvanized) duct is shown in the table below.
A turn of 45° or less can be ignored. Two 45° turns within the duct length count as one 90° elbow. A turn over 45° counts as one 90° elbow.
Dryers must be exhausted to the outside.
Caution:
For personal safety, do not terminate exhaust into a chimney, under an enclosed house floor (crawl space), or into an attic, as accumulated lint can create a fire hazard or moisture can cause damage. Never terminate exhaust into a common duct or plenum with a kitchen exhaust, as lint and grease combination can create a fire hazard.
Exhaust ducts should terminate in a dampered wall cap to prevent back drafts, bird nesting, etc. The wall cap must be located at least 12" above the ground or any other obstruction, with the opening pointed down.
