Chapter 2 Module Setup

2.1 Install an MXM Module

This chapter demonstrates how to set up an MXM Module onto an MXM Module supported system. Before starting, users must follow the system's user manual to remove the chassis cover and install the MXM carrier board.

  1. Locate the slot on the MXM carrier board installed on the MXM Module supported system. The example system used is GM-1000.

Textual Description of Image: An image shows a green printed circuit board (carrier board) with an MXM slot. An arrow points to the slot, labeled "This slot is used to connect an MXM Module". Another arrow points to the board itself, labeled "An MXM carrier board installed on GM-1000".

  2. Place the thermal pads on the chips of the MXM Module.

Textual Description of Image: Two images are shown side-by-side, connected by a red arrow. The left image shows the MXM-T1000 module with thermal pads being placed on specific chips (likely the GPU and memory). The right image shows the module with the thermal pads correctly positioned, ready for the next step.

  3. Insert the MXM Module into the slot on the MXM carrier board at a 45-degree angle.

Textual Description of Image: An image shows the MXM module being inserted into the carrier board slot at approximately a 45-degree angle. An arrow indicates the direction and angle of insertion.

  4. Fasten the two screws (M3x5L) to secure the module.

Textual Description of Image: An image shows the MXM module seated in the carrier board slot. Two red circles highlight the locations where two screws are to be fastened to secure the module.

Note: Before putting on the thermal block (in the next step), please make sure the protective films on the Thermal Pads have been removed!

  5. Put on the thermal block, aligning the screw-holes, and fasten the 4 screws (M3x8L).

Textual Description of Image: Two images are shown side-by-side, connected by a red arrow. The left image shows a copper heatsink (thermal block). The right image shows the thermal block positioned over the MXM module, with four screws being fastened into place to secure it.

  6. Place the thermal pad on the thermal block.

Textual Description of Image: An image shows the thermal block with a large thermal pad placed on its surface, ready to make contact with the system's heatsink or chassis.

Note: Before assembling the system's chassis cover, please make sure the protective film on the Thermal Pad has been removed!
