Honeywell Fire Sentry SS2 Series UV/IR Flame Detectors
Digital Electro-Optical Fire Detectors
Product Overview
The Honeywell Fire Sentry SS2-A and SS2-AN are UV/IR digital electro-optical flame detectors representing advanced technology for fire detection. They are designed to sense radiant energy across the Ultraviolet (UV), Visible, and Wide Band Infrared (IR) spectrums, alerting to the presence of flaming fires. These detectors offer a wide 120° field of view, providing extensive coverage, and feature enhanced sensitivity, potentially covering up to four times more area than other detectors. Sophisticated microprocessor-based algorithms, including FirePic™ and Tri-Mode Plot™, ensure robust false alarm immunity from common non-fire sources like arc welding and corona discharge.
The SS2-AM and SS2-AML models offer Ultra-High Speed detection capabilities, also sensing UV, Visible, and Wide Band IR energy. They are suitable for applications requiring rapid response to flaming fires.

Operation
The SS2 detectors operate from a standard 24 Volt DC power supply and interface with approved fire alarm panels or standard PLCs. Upon power application, an internal self-test is performed, and the fault relay indicates status. Front LEDs flash every ten seconds to show power is on. The detector continuously analyzes spectral data from its sensor array using its microprocessor. In the event of an alarm, the detector activates its alarm relay and stores pre-fire spectral data in non-volatile memory for retrieval and analysis, which can help determine the cause of the fire. The detector's optical path can be tested using COP-i™ Test Sources when integrated into the FS2000™ System via the four-wire RS-485 FireBus™.
Tri-Mode Plot Description: A graph displays spectral data (UV, IR, VIS) over a sequence or time. It shows the intensity of each spectral band, illustrating the detector's response characteristics.
