This document provides instructions for the Black & Decker Dustbuster handheld vacuum cleaner models DV1010ECL and DV1410ECL.

Intended Use

The Black & Decker Dustbuster handheld vacuum cleaner is designed for light dry vacuum cleaning purposes and is intended for household use only.

Using Your Appliance

  • Do not use to pick up liquids or materials that could catch fire.
  • Do not use near water.
  • Do not immerse the appliance in water.
  • Never pull the charger lead to disconnect from the socket. Keep the lead away from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
  • This appliance can be used by children aged 8+ with supervision and understanding of hazards. Children should not play with the appliance or perform cleaning/maintenance without supervision.

Inspection and Repairs

  • Before use, check for damaged or defective parts.
  • Do not use if any part is damaged or defective.
  • Have damaged parts repaired or replaced by an authorized repair agent.
  • Regularly check the charger lead for damage and replace if necessary.
  • Never attempt to replace parts other than those specified in this manual.

Batteries and Chargers

Batteries

  • Never attempt to open batteries.
  • Do not expose batteries to water or heat.
  • Do not store where temperatures exceed 40°C.
  • Charge only at ambient temperatures between 10°C and 40°C.
  • Use only the provided charger.
  • Dispose of batteries according to the "Protecting the environment" section.
  • Do not damage or deform the battery pack.
  • Do not charge damaged batteries.
  • Handle battery leakage with a cloth; avoid skin contact. Seek medical attention for skin/eye contact.

⚠️ Warning! Battery fluid may cause personal injury or damage. Rinse skin immediately with water and seek medical attention if redness or pain occurs. Rinse eyes with clean water and seek medical attention.

Chargers

  • Chargers are designed for specific voltages; check rating plate.
  • Never replace the charger unit with a regular mains plug.
  • Use the charger only with the supplied appliance/tool.
  • Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorized service center.
  • Do not expose the charger to water, open it, or probe it.
  • Charge the appliance/tool/battery in a well-ventilated area.

Electrical Safety

The charger is designed for a specific voltage. Always check that the mains voltage corresponds to the rating plate. The tool is double insulated, so no earth wire is required. The charging base is for indoor use only.

Assembly

  • Integrated crevice tool (10) for confined spaces.

Integrated Brush Tool (Fig. A)

Flip down the brush tool (9) at the end of the dust collector.

Integrated Crevice Tool (Fig. B)

  • Extend the crevice tool (10) by pulling it until it locks.
  • Retract the crevice tool (10) by pressing area (11) and pushing it back into the dust collector (5).

Installation

Wall Mounting (Fig. C)

The product can be attached to a wall for convenient storage and charging. Ensure the fixing method is suitable for the wall type and weight. Mark screw holes near an electrical outlet. Insert the charger cord into the wall mount bracket, leaving excess. Hang the appliance on the wall bracket hooks.

Use

  • Before first use, charge the battery for at least 4 hours.

Charging the Battery (Fig. D)

  • Ensure the appliance is switched off.
  • Plug the charger (7) into the charging socket (6) of the appliance.
  • Plug in the charger and switch on the mains. The charging indicator (3) will light up.
  • Charge for at least 4 hours. The charger may become warm, which is normal. The appliance can be left connected indefinitely.
  • Do not charge the battery at temperatures below 10°C or above 40°C.

Switching On and Off (Fig. E)

  • To switch on, slide the on/off switch (1) forward to position 1.
  • To switch off, slide the on/off switch (1) back to position 0.

Rotating the Dust Collector (Fig. F)

The nozzle can be rotated for better access. Press the rotation release catch (12) and rotate the nozzle.

Optimising Suction Force

Clear filters regularly to maintain optimal suction force.

Emptying and Cleaning the Product

Emptying the Dust Bowl (Fig. G)

  • Press the release latch (13) and pull the dust collector (5) straight off.
  • Empty the contents of the bowl.
  • Replace the dust collector until it clicks firmly into position.

Removing the Dust Bowl and Filters (Fig. H & I)

⚠️ Warning! Filters are re-usable and should be cleaned regularly. Never use the appliance without filters.

  • Press the release latch (2) and pull the dust bowl (4) straight off.
  • While holding the dust bowl over a bin or sink, pull out the filter (14) to empty its contents.
  • Replace the dust bowl until it clicks firmly into position.

Pre-filter (Fig. J)

Separate the filter (15) and pre-filter (16) by twisting the pre-filter (16) clockwise and lifting it.

Cleaning the Dust Bowls and Filters

  • Wash dust bowls and filters in warm soapy water.
  • Ensure filters and dust bowl are dry before refitting.

Replacing the Filters

Replace filters every 6 to 9 months or when worn/damaged. Replacement filters for DV1010ECL and DV1410ECL are part number VF110-XJ.

Maintenance

This appliance is designed for long operation with minimal maintenance. Proper tool care and regular cleaning ensure satisfactory operation.

⚠️ Warning! Before performing maintenance, switch off and unplug the appliance, or remove the battery.

  • Unplug the charger before cleaning it.
  • Regularly clean ventilation slots with a soft brush or dry cloth.
  • Regularly clean the motor housing with a damp cloth; do not use abrasive or solvent-based cleaners.

Protecting the Environment

This product must not be disposed of with normal household waste. Make it available for separate collection. Recycling used products and packaging helps prevent environmental pollution. Local regulations may apply. Black & Decker provides a collection and recycling service via authorized repair agents.

Battery Disposal

If disposing of the product yourself, remove and dispose of the battery according to local regulations. Discharge the battery first. Remove the dust bowl, housing cover, and detach battery leads. Package the battery safely and take it to a service agent or recycling station. The battery cannot be refitted.
