Installation Instructions

Proper installation is crucial for safe and efficient operation. Follow these steps:

Preview Installation Order:

  1. Check and choose the proper location.
  2. Level the dryer.
  3. Connect gas or electric power.
  4. Vent the dryer.
  5. Plug in the power cord and ensure grounding.
  6. Perform installation test (Exhaust Check).
  7. Conduct a test run.

Installation Location Requirements:

Clearances:

Recommended spacing for recessed areas or closets:

Installation with Optional Pedestal Base or Stacking Kit:

If using a pedestal or stacking kit, follow specific instructions provided with those accessories. Ensure the washer is on a stable, level floor. Do not stack a washer on a dryer.

Leveling the Dryer:

The dryer must be level for optimal performance. Adjust the four leveling feet using an adjustable wrench until the dryer is stable and does not rock. Ensure all feet make firm contact with the floor.

Reversing the Door:

The door can be reversed to open from the opposite side. This procedure involves removing screws, the latch, and carefully detaching and reattaching the door and hinges. Support the door's weight during this process. This must be done before stacking.

Installing the Side Vent Kit:

An optional side vent kit (Part No. 383EEL9001B) allows venting to the side or bottom. The process involves removing a knockout panel, attaching an adapter duct, and connecting elbow and duct sections. Right-side venting is not available on gas models.

Venting the Dryer:

Use only 4-inch (10.2 cm) diameter rigid or flexible metal ductwork. Keep duct runs as short as possible with minimal elbows. Ensure the male end of duct sections points away from the dryer. Secure all joints with duct tape. Insulate ductwork in unheated areas. Maximum duct lengths vary based on elbows (e.g., 65 ft. for 0 elbows, 55 ft. for 1 elbow with rigid metal duct). Failure to exhaust correctly voids the warranty.

Connecting Gas Dryers:

Connect to a rigid gas supply line with a 3/8-inch NPT fitting. Use a new flexible stainless steel connector certified by AGA/CSA. A gas shutoff valve must be installed within 6 ft. (1.8 m) of the dryer. Purge the gas line before connecting. Check for leaks with a non-corrosive fluid. Gas models require a 120V AC, 60Hz grounded outlet.

Connecting Electric Dryers:

Electric dryers require a separate 240V AC, 60-Hertz, single-phase circuit, fused at 30 amperes. Use appropriate gauge wire (#10 AWG copper minimum for runs up to 15 ft, #8 AWG for longer runs). A 4-wire connection is required for new construction and mobile/manufactured homes. Follow specific wiring diagrams for 3-wire or 4-wire connections, ensuring proper terminal block connections and grounding.

Special Requirements for Manufactured or Mobile Homes:

Comply with relevant standards (e.g., 24 CFR, Part 3280 or CAN/CSA Z240 MH). Gas dryers must be permanently attached to the floor. Electric dryers require a 4-wire connection. Venting must be to the outside, not under the home. Ensure adequate fresh air supply (at least 25 in²).

Final Installation Check:

Installation Test (Exhaust Check):

This test uses the FLOW SENSE™ system to detect duct blockages. To activate: Turn dryer ON, press and hold SIGNAL and TEMP. CONTROL, then press POWER. Press START/PAUSE. The display will show bars indicating restriction (no bars = OK, four bars = severely restricted). Error codes may also appear for sensor or power issues.

How to Use

Follow these steps for operating your LG dryer:

  1. Clean the Lint Filter: Remove lint after every load for efficient drying.
  2. Load the Dryer: Place wet laundry in the drum, ensuring not to overload.
  3. Turn On the Dryer: Press the POWER button.
  4. Select a Cycle: Turn the Cycle Selector Knob to choose a cycle. Preset settings will display.
  5. Begin Cycle: Press the START/PAUSE button. The cycle can be paused by opening the door or pressing START/PAUSE.
  6. End of Cycle: A chime sounds upon completion. Remove clothes promptly to prevent wrinkles.
