Futaba T16IZ SUPER / T16IZS Software Update Guide

This document outlines the procedure for updating the Futaba T16IZ SUPER and T16IZS radio control transmitters, along with details on new features introduced in various software versions.

T16IZ SUPER Update Procedure

The T16IZ SUPER can be updated. If program changes are available, download the update file from the Futaba WEB site (http://www.futaba.co.jp/) and follow the steps below.

Update Steps

Caution: If the battery runs out during the update, the process will fail. Please charge the battery to over 50% before proceeding.

? Note: Model data on the main unit can be used after the update. However, for safety, please back up your model data before updating.

  1. Download the update file from Futaba WEB to your PC.

  2. Extract (unzip) the downloaded update file (zip format). On Windows XP or later, you can open it with Explorer. Extracting will create a folder named "FUTABA".

  3. Copy the "FUTABA" folder to the microSD card.

  4. Insert the microSD card containing the update file into the transmitter.

  5. Press and hold the HOME/EXIT button, then turn on the transmitter's power.

  6. The update will begin, and the progress will be displayed on the screen. (Do not turn off the power during the update.)

  7. Once the update completion message appears, turn off the transmitter by pressing the power switch.
  8. Check the version on the System Menu → Information screen.

  9. Always confirm operation after updating.

Error Messages During Update

If an error occurs during the update, one of the following messages may be displayed:

Update Precautions

Never remove the battery or microSD card during the update. This may cause the transmitter to malfunction.

Recovery Method if Update Fails

If the update fails for any reason, the transmitter may not boot. In this case, update the transmitter again using the following steps:

  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Insert the microSD card with the update file into the transmitter.
  3. Press and hold the HOME/EXIT button, then re-insert the battery.
  4. The update will start.

If the transmitter still does not boot or the update fails after following the above steps, please request repair.

T16IZS Software Update Contents

V9.0

This software update adds or changes the following functions. Please read the accompanying instruction manual to understand the changes.

  1. Support for GYA573 flight gyro setting V6.x. Added Vector and Nozzle functions for jet models, and expanded camber mixing rate from ±100 to ±200. Refer to the T26SZ/T16IZS_GYA573 V.6.x_ Setting Manual on the Futaba homepage for details.
  2. Added EC-23/EC-24 telemetry function. Supports telemetry functions for O.S. ENGINE (Ogawa Seiki) ECUs EC-23/EC-24.
  3. Support for Power Hub DLPH-3. Connecting DLPH-3 to the transmitter allows mode changes to be made from the transmitter.
    1. Connect DLPH-3 to the transmitter as shown in the diagram.

    2. Call up the DLPH screen from the System Menu → DLPH.

    3. Tap [Read].

DLPH-3 Settings

The connected DLPH-3 version is displayed.

Tap [Write] to confirm and write the settings to DLPH-3.

  1. Support for GYA573 flight gyro. Refer to T26SZ/T16IZS GYA573 WEB Setting Manual for details.

V7.0

  1. Added EC-22/EC-21 telemetry function. Supports telemetry for O.S. ENGINE (Ogawa Seiki) ECUs EC-22/EC-21.
  2. Sound Switch, Voice Notification German Language Support. Sound switch function and voice notification function now support German audio. (German version only).

V6.1

  1. Fixed telemetry audio for SBS-01ML.

V6.0

  1. Support for GYA553 V4.0 flight gyro. Refer to T16IZ/T16IZS GYA553 Ver4 WEB Setting Manual for details.

V5.0

  1. Added CGY770R helicopter gyro setting function. Refer to T16IZS CGY770R Gyro Setting Function WEB Setting Manual for details.
  2. Added confirmation dialog for condition group setting buttons.

    [Yes] taps to switch. [No] taps to not switch.
  3. Added power-off confirmation function. When the power switch is operated, a power-off confirmation function is added. System Menu → [Hardware Settings].

    Setting Power Off Confirmation to [ON] will display a confirmation screen before powering off.

    Tapping "Yes" powers off the unit. Tapping "No" does not power off the unit.

V4.0 Receiver Setting Function

Connect compatible receivers to the transmitter's S.I/F connector to configure receiver settings.

Compatible Receivers (as of Jan 2024)

  1. Connect the receiver's S.BUS2 port and the transmitter's S.I/F port with a cable.

  2. With the transmitter OFF, press and hold the U.MENU/MON. button, then press the power switch. The transmitter will operate without transmitting radio waves.

    ? Note: Settings cannot be made while the receiver is receiving radio waves. After setting the receiver, turn the transmitter power on again to transmit radio waves.
  3. Open the [Receiver Settings] screen from the System Menu.

  4. Tap the [Read] button.

  5. Receiver settings are displayed. Display may vary by model.

  6. Change settings as needed.
    • Change receiver channel output mode: MODE A → MODE B → MODE C → ...
    • Dual RX Link Mode: OFF ↔ ON
    • Telemetry: INH: Telemetry ON / ACT: Telemetry OFF

  7. Tap the [Write] button. Receiver settings will be changed.

  8. Remove the receiver from the transmitter. ? Note: T16IZS cannot operate beyond 17ch.

DLPH-2 Setting Function

Connect DLPH-2 to the transmitter's S.I/F connector to configure DLPH-2 settings.

  1. Connect power to the DLPH-2's BAT.1 or BAT.2 port.
  2. Connect the DLPH-2's RX1 port and the transmitter's S.I/F connector with a cable.

  3. Turn on the DLPH-2 power switch.
  4. Open the [DLPH-2 Settings] screen from the System Menu.

  5. Tap the [Read] button.

  6. DLPH-2 settings are displayed.
  7. Change settings as needed. Tap to switch:
    • Settings Mode: [Dual RX Mode] → [Single RX Mode] → [Airplane Gyro Mode] → [Dual RX Mode] → ...
    • PWM Output Mode: [1-16ch + DG1,DG2] → [17-24ch + DG1,DG2] → [1-16ch + DG1,DG2] → ...
    Please select the desired mode. ? Note: If "Airplane Gyro Mode" is selected, the PWM Output Mode will be automatically set to "1-16ch + DG1,DG2". ? Note: T16IZS cannot operate beyond 17ch.

  8. Tap the [Write] button. DLPH-2 settings will be changed.

  9. Remove DLPH-2 from the transmitter.

V3.0 Switch Assignment

Added Switch Recognition Function to Switch Assignment: In the Hardware Settings screen, operating a toggle switch to be assigned will now automatically select it.

  1. Tap the [Hardware Settings] button in the System Menu.

  2. Set [Switch Recognition] to [ON] to enable the switch recognition function. Set to [OFF] to disable.

  3. Call up the Hardware Settings screen from the settings screen of the function you want to use.
  4. Operate the toggle switch (SA ~ SH) you want to assign.

  5. The operated switch is selected, and the current switch position is set to [ON]. Operating the switch changes the [ON] position.

V3.0 Sound Switch

Assign sounds to toggle switches (SA ~ SH) and play them by operating the switch.

Tap [Sound Switch] in the Linkage Menu to call up the setting screen below.

Tap the button corresponding to the switch position to assign a sound, and call up the Sound Selection screen.

From the Sound Selection screen, tap the button for the sound to assign. The selected sound will play for confirmation and be assigned to the switch.

Notes

V3.0 Voice Notification & Telemetry Settings

  1. Voice Notification: Can notify ON/OFF of various mixing functions, transmitter operating status, etc., via voice. Tap [Warning Settings] in the Linkage Menu to call up the Warning Settings screen. Display page 2 and call up the setting screen below.

    Tap the "Voice Notification" setting button to set the Voice Notification function [ON]/[OFF]. When Voice Notification is set to [ON], it will notify by voice when the ON/OFF status of various mixing functions or when a condition changes. ? Note: For condition voice notifications, standard condition names are used. If you change condition names or reorder priorities, voice notifications and display may not match. Please be aware of this.
  2. Telemetry Settings: Added Gear Ratio setting button for Kontronik ESC, Scorpion ESC.

    If gear down, input gear ratio to display rotor RPM for helicopters and propeller RPM for airplanes.
  3. Telemetry Settings: Changed the motor pole count setting for each ESC to "100". Previously up to 36, now settable up to 100.

    Enter the number of poles for your motor.

V2.0 Peripheral Device Update

You can update the software for receivers or gyros by connecting them to the transmitter's S.I/F connector.

  1. Download the update file from Futaba WEB to your PC.
  2. Extract the downloaded update file. Extracting creates a "FUTABA" folder.
  3. Copy the "FUTABA" folder to a microSD card.
  4. Insert the microSD card with the update file into the transmitter.
  5. Turn on the transmitter power and open [Update] from the System Menu.

    ? Note: The update items will not be displayed if CRSF is ON. Turn CRSF OFF in the system type of the Linkage Menu before proceeding.
  6. Select the product category. ? Note: The previous Servo Update and Sensor Update screens can be accessed from this screen.

  7. The update files for the selected category are displayed. Select the update target.

  8. The update screen is displayed. Connect the receiver or gyro to be updated to the transmitter's S.I/F connector, put it in the update preparation state, and then tap the [Update] button.

  9. The update begins.

  10. Upon completion, the following display appears.

  11. Remove the receiver or gyro from the transmitter's S.I/F connector.

  1. Support for GYA553 Ver 3.x flight gyro. (Refer to T16IZ/T16IZ SUPER GYA553 V3 Setting Manual for setting method details.) GYA553 software version V3.x is supported. Added 3rd Aileron and 4th Aileron functions to GYA553.
