OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
⚠ WARNING
Never place items in the washer that are dampened with gasoline or other flammable fluids. No washer can completely remove oil. Do not dry anything that has ever had any type of oil on it (including cooking oils). Doing so can result in death, explosion, or fire.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, read the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, located in your appliance's Owner's Manual, before operating this appliance.
Step 1. ADD HE DETERGENT
Designed to use only HE (High Efficiency) detergents. See ADDING LAUNDRY PRODUCTS for more information.
Step 2. LOAD CLOTHES
For best results, load garments in loose heaps evenly around the basket wall.
Step 3. PRESS POWER TO TURN ON THE WASHER
Press the Power button to turn the washer on.
Step 4. SELECT THE DESIRED CYCLE FOR YOUR LOAD*
Turn the Cycle Knob to select your desired wash cycle.
Step 5. ADJUST CYCLE SETTINGS AND SELECT ADDITIONAL OPTIONS*
Use the Temperature, Deep Fill, and Soil & Rinse knobs to adjust settings. The Extra Power option can also be selected.
Step 6. PRESS AND HOLD START/PAUSE TO BEGIN CYCLE
Press and hold the Start/Pause button for 1 second until all status lights are illuminated, then release to start the cycle.
CONTROL PANEL AND FEATURES
The control panel features the following:
- 1. POWER: Press to turn on/off or to stop/cancel a cycle.
- 2. CYCLE KNOB: Turn knob to select desired cycle.
- 3. START/PAUSE: Press and hold for 1 second to start cycle. Press during a cycle to pause and unlock lid (may take longer if spinning).
- 4. CYCLE MODIFIERS:
- TEMPERATURE: Select desired water temperature (Tap Cold, Cold, Cool, Warm, or Hot).
- DEEP FILL: Adjust water level. Options include Auto (automatic), Med, Max, or Deep Fill-Max + Extra Rinse. Higher levels can reduce white residue on dark clothing.
- SOIL & RINSE: Choose soil level and number of rinses. Select settings with '+Extra Rinse' when using fabric softener.
- EXTRA POWER: Turn On for increased cleaning performance; may increase cycle duration.
NOTE: If the washer detects an out-of-balance condition, it may pause and attempt to redistribute the load. The Sense and Wash status indicators will briefly illuminate.
WARNING: Do not wash water-resistant or water-repellant-type clothing. Failure to follow instructions may result in abnormal vibration, out-of-balance conditions, physical injury, property damage, and/or appliance damage.
MORE WATER WHEN YOU WANT IT
AUTO SENSING AND DEEP FILL: When Deep Fill-Auto or Deep Fill-Auto + Extra Rinse is selected, the washer adjusts water level for optimal HE washing. Select Deep Fill-Med, Max, or Deep Fill-Max + Extra Rinse to add more water. Using the Bulky Items cycle with Deep Fill-Max is recommended for maximum water level. Expect longer cycle times with Deep Fill options (except Auto) due to extended fill duration.
CLEANING WITH LESS WATER
The washer is designed for thorough cleaning using less water to conserve energy and resources. As the load dampens and moves, items settle in the basket. This is normal. You will not see a full basket of water as with older machines; it is normal for some items to be above the water line.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT CYCLE
A full cycle guide is available online at www.maytag.com. This guide helps identify the best cycle for various load types and default options. For example, the Normal cycle with Warm water is recommended for cottons, linens, and mixed-garment loads.
PRE-TREATING AND SOAKING
To pre-treat or soak, turn the cycle knob to ? Water Faucet. Press and hold the Start Button to turn on, and press Pause or Power to turn off. The faucet automatically shuts off after 10 minutes or when the maximum water level is reached. Water will drain automatically if the level becomes too high, or after 10 minutes if the lid is left open, or 3 hours if the lid is closed.
ADDING LAUNDRY PRODUCTS
IMPORTANT: Using non-HE detergent can result in longer cycle times, reduced rinsing performance, component malfunction, and mold/mildew buildup. HE detergents should be low-sudsing and quick-dispersing.
Adding HE Detergent to Basket
Add measured HE detergent or single-dose laundry packets into the basket. Add oxi-type boosters, color-safe bleach, or fabric softener crystals to the bottom of the basket before clothes.
Adding Liquid Chlorine Bleach
Do not overfill, dilute, or use more than 1 cup (236 mL). Do not use color-safe bleach or oxi products in the same cycle with liquid chlorine bleach.
Adding Liquid Fabric Softener
Maytag suggests using a dispenser like the Downy Ball®. Pour measured liquid fabric softener into the dispenser, seal it, and place on top of the load. Follow manufacturer's directions for the correct amount. The dispenser releases softener at the correct time. For questions, visit www.downy.com.
NOTE: When using fabric softener, always select a setting with '+Extra Rinse' on the Soil & Rinse knob to ensure no residue remains on clothing.
Manual Addition: Select the Fabric Softener option. During the final rinse, pause the washer when it has completed filling. Lift the lid, add recommended softener, close lid, and resume cycle.
