Read this important information carefully before you use the appliance and save it for future reference.
Warning
- This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
- When the appliance is used in a bathroom, unplug it after use since the proximity of water presents a hazard, even when the appliance is switched off.
- For additional protection, we advise you to install a residual current device (RCD) in the electrical circuit that supplies the bathroom. This RCD must have a rated residual operating current not higher than 30mA. Ask your installer for advice.
- WARNING: Do not use this appliance near bathtubs, showers, basins or other vessels containing water (Fig. 1).
- The supply cord cannot be replaced. If the supply cord is damaged, you must have the appliance replaced by Philips, a service center authorized by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

- Wait until the appliance has cooled down before you store it.
- Do not operate the appliance with wet hands.

- Always return the device to a service center authorized by Philips for examination or repair. Repair by unqualified people could cause an extremely hazardous situation for the user.
- Do not connect the appliance with a plug adapter. If really necessary, only use a certified plug adapter.
- If the appliance overheats, it switches off automatically. Unplug the appliance and let it cool down for a few minutes. Before you switch the appliance on again, check the grilles to make sure they are not blocked by fluff, hair, etc.
- Do not insert metal objects into the air grilles to avoid electric shock.
- Never block the air grilles.

Dry your hair
When the dryer is plugged in without switching on, it will automatically enter standby mode. The dryer's handle might have some warmth after a while, which is normal and safe to use.
When the appliance is powered on, ions are automatically and continuously dispensed, reducing frizz and providing additional shine.
1 Connect the plug to a power supply socket. 2 Attach the nozzle or diffuser (BHD837 /(11) only) onto the
hairdryer for precise drying.
Do not touch/remove the accessory until it cools down.
3 (BHD837 /(11) only) To enhance volume for curls and bouncy style, attach the diffuser onto the hairdryer. Insert the pins into your hair to touch your scalp and make rotating movements.
4 Slide the power on/off button to . Press and hold the mode button for 2 seconds to switch between Preset and Manual Select.

5 In Preset mode, press the mode button to select your desired setting according to the instructions as below: Fast: Dry shower-wet hair quickly. ThermoShield: Dry your hair at a constant caring temperature. Hot/Cold: Care for your hair with an alternating hot and cool airflow. Gentle: Dry your hair at a mild temperature for a gentle experience, especially soothing for your scalp.
6 In Manual Select, you can press mode or speed button momentarily to adjust temperature and speed as preferred.
7 Switch the power on/off button to and you will see COOL on display. Press the speed button as preferred to fix your style.
- The hairdryer comes with memory feature, it can remember the last used settings.
After use:
1 Switch off the appliance and cool down the dryer. Remove the accessory if necessary.
2 Clean the appliance with a damp cloth.
3 It is suggested to use the auto-clean mode once a month. To activate the clean mode, you should turn off the hair dryer first. Then press and hold both mode and speed buttons for 5 seconds.
4 Unscrew the air inlet grille cover to remove hair and dust, and use a toothbrush to gently clean the foam. Make sure to put the foam back.
Do not rinse the foam under tap water.
Error code and solution
A01: Check if the dryer is plugged in correctly.
A02: Try to unplug and then plug in again see if the appliance works properly, or contact Philips for help. A03: Try to unplug and then plug in again see if the appliance works properly, or contact Philips for help. A04: Unplug the appliance and clean the dust on air inlet grille of the handle. Turn on the appliance again only when it cools down completely.
