- Align the new paddle with the bottom of the Wi-Fi device and press it into place.
Single-Switch Wiring
Removing Existing Switch
Before installation, you may wish to change the paddle color to match your wallplate or decor. Please refer to Section 3.
- Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box. IMPORTANT! Verify power to the switch box is OFF before continuing.
- Remove the wallplate.
- Remove the switch mounting screws.
- Carefully remove the switch from the switch box. DO NOT disconnect the wires yet.
- Identify up to five screw terminals on the existing switch, typically marked:
- GROUND - Green/Bare wire.
- LOAD - Black wire (connected to lighting).
- LINE (Hot) - Black wire (connected to power).
- TRAVELER - Red wire (used for 3-way installations only).
- NEUTRAL - White wire.
- Match these screw terminals to the wires connected to the existing switch.
- Disconnect the wires from the existing switch. Label wires according to their previous terminal connection.
Installation
Wire strip length: Strip insulation for attachment 5/8in. (16mm). UL specifies the tightening torque for the screws is 12 lbf-in (14 Kgf-cm).
- Connect the green or bare copper ground wire to the ground terminal.
- Connect the black wire from the light fixture to the LOAD terminal.
- Connect the black wire from the electrical service panel (hot) to the LINE terminal.
- Connect the white wire to the NEUTRAL terminal. Use a jumper wire if needed. Often, the neutral wire can be found in the back of the switch box, possibly bound together with other neutral wires.
- Note: The traveler terminal is only used for 3-way installations.
- Insert the dimmer into the switch box, being careful not to pinch or crush wires.
- Secure the switch to the box using the supplied screws.
- Mount the wallplate. Reapply power to the circuit at the fuse box or circuit breaker. The blue indicator light under the ON/OFF paddle should blink rapidly.
- Troubleshooting: If the blue light is not blinking:
- First, ensure the air gap switch (F) is in the ON position (right).
- If the blue light is still not blinking, turn off the breaker, verify there is no power to the Wi-Fi dimmer, switch the wires in the LINE and LOAD terminals, and tighten the screws.
- Mount the wallplate and reapply power to the circuit at the fuse box or circuit breaker.
3-Way Wiring
Typical wiring schematic for 3-way Installation:
In a typical 3-way application, there are two 3-way switches. The switch on the line (hot) side has the common terminal tied to 120VAC. The switch on the load side has the common terminal tied to the load the switches turn ON/OFF.
Preparing the Line Side Switch (Existing Switch)
IMPORTANT! 3-way switches can be wired in different ways. These instructions explain the most common method. If you have difficulty with these instructions or your home wiring, contact a licensed electrician for assistance.
- Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box. IMPORTANT! Verify power to the switch is OFF before continuing.
- Remove the line side wallplate.
- Remove mounting screws for the existing line side switch.
- Carefully remove the switch from the switch box. DO NOT disconnect wires yet.
- Identify the black wire (line) connected to the circuit breaker, attached to a black screw. Label this wire "line."
- Identify the red wire (typically) also connected to the load side, attached to another brass screw. Label this wire "traveler 1."
- Identify the black wire connected to the load side, attached to a brass screw. Label this wire "traveler 2."
