Congratulations on your purchase of the GE Universal Remote. This remote is capable of operating thousands of audio/video devices including TVs, DVD players, cable, satellite receivers and more!

Setup
Your universal remote requires two (2) AAA batteries (not included). Alkaline batteries are recommended.
Battery Installation
- On the back of the remote, pull down on the textured surface and slide battery cover downward to remove.
- Match the (+) and (-) marks on the batteries to the (+) and (-) marks inside the battery compartment, then insert two (2) AAA batteries. Be sure to use fresh batteries.
- Position battery cover slightly below opening and push upward to lock into place.
NOTE: If your remote stops operating properly, replace the batteries with new ones. The remote will retain the codes you have programmed for up to 10 minutes after the batteries are removed.
Battery Precautions
- Do not mix old and new batteries.
- Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc), or rechargeable (Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, etc.) batteries.
- Always remove old, weak or worn-out batteries promptly and recycle or dispose of them in accordance with local and national regulations.
Battery Saver
Your remote automatically turns off if the buttons are depressed more than 8 seconds. This will save your batteries should your remote get stuck in a place where the buttons remain depressed (e.g., between the sofa cushions).
Code Saver
You will have up to 10 minutes to change the batteries in your remote without losing codes you have programmed. However, do not press any buttons until batteries are installed in the remote. If buttons are pressed without batteries in the remote, all codes will be lost.
Button Functions
The GE Universal Remote features a comprehensive layout of buttons for controlling various audio/video devices. The primary device selection buttons are located at the top:
- TV, CBL, B-RAY, AUX: Selects the device to control.
- In SHIFT mode, these buttons can also control AMP, SAT, DVD, and AUX2.
Other key buttons and their functions include:
- GUIDE: Displays the satellite or cable on-screen program guide.
- MENU: Displays the Menu on the TV.
- FAVORITE: Used to store up to 10 of your favorite channels for quick access.
- VOLUME UP/DOWN: Changes the volume level of the selected device, typically the TV.
- Navigation Buttons (UP, DOWN, LEFT & RIGHT): Used for navigating menus and options.
- MUTE: Turns off the TV sound while the picture remains.
- RECORD, PLAY, STOP, REW (rewind), FF (fast forward), PAUSE: Standard playback control buttons.
- ABCD Buttons (Yellow, Blue, Red, Green): Allow access to additional features for DVRs, cable boxes, satellite receivers, Blu-ray players, etc. Specific functions vary by device type and brand; consult the device's owner's manual for details.
- DOT (•): Used to select digital channels, e.g., 2.3.
Additional control buttons:
- POWER: Turns devices On or Off and functions as a red indicator light.
- SETUP: Used to set up the remote and for the code search function.
- SHIFT: Press and release to access buttons labeled in blue print (e.g., AMP, SAT, DVD, AUX2, VOD, DVR/LIST, ASPECT, SWAP, PAGE, ACTIVE, LIVE, BACKLIGHT).
- EXIT: Exits on-screen menus or returns to the previous screen.
- INPUT: Selects the video inputs from available viewing sources.
- INFO (i): Displays on-screen channel information, etc.
- CHANNEL UP/DOWN: Changes the channels.
- OK: Selects menu items for the device being controlled.
- LAST: Returns to the previously selected channel or toggles DVD repeat.
- NUMBERS (0-9): Enter numbers for direct channel selection. Some devices require pressing ENTER after channel selection.
Programming Your Remote
Your GE universal remote control is designed to control multiple audio/video devices such as TVs, DVDs, DVRs, satellite, cable, and audio devices using a single remote. You will need to program it to control your chosen devices. There are two methods:
- Direct Code Entry (Recommended)
- Auto Code Search
Direct Code Entry (Recommended)
Follow these steps to program your remote using direct code entry:
- Locate the Remote Code List provided with your remote. Find the DEVICE CATEGORY (e.g., TV, CBL, DVR, B-RAY, SAT, AMP, AUX 1, AUX 2) and then the BRAND of your device. Circle all codes listed for that brand.
- Manually turn on the device you wish to control.
- Press and hold the button until the red indicator light stays on (approx. 2 seconds), then release the button.
- Press and release the device button (e.g., TV, CBL, B-RAY, SAT, AUX) or the button for secondary functions (e.g., AMP, SAT, DVD, AUX 2). The red indicator will blink once and then remain on.
- Enter the first 4-digit code from the code list using the number buttons. If the code is valid, the red indicator light will turn off. If invalid, it will flash, allowing you to re-enter.
Note: If no buttons are pressed for 35 seconds, the remote will exit SETUP mode.
- Point the remote at the device. Press the button. If the device turns off, programming is complete for that device. If not, return to step 3 and try the next code from the list. Continue until a valid code is found.
- Repeat this process for each device (TV, CBL, DVR, B-RAY, SAT, AMP, AUX 1, AUX 2) in your home entertainment system.
Programming Notes for Direct Code Entry
- If your device doesn't respond after trying all codes, or if your brand isn't listed, use the Auto Code Search method.
- Sometimes the first code that works may only control a few functions. Try other codes from the list for more functionality.
- You can program any device button to control any device in your system. For example, use the B-RAY or AUX button for an audio receiver or DVD/VCR.
- For combination devices (e.g., DVD/VCR), you may need to enter a code for each part using different device buttons.
- Write down the found code for future reference.
Auto Code Search
The Auto Code Search scans through all stored codes automatically. Prepare to lock in the correct code when found.
- Manually turn on the device you wish to control.
- Press and hold the button until the red indicator light stays on (approx. 2 seconds), then release.
- Press and release the desired device button (TV, CBL, DVR, B-RAY, SAT, AMP, AUX 1, AUX 2). The red indicator will blink once and remain on.
- Point the remote at the device and press Note: The remote must remain pointed at the device during the search. (for TV) or (for DVD/VCR, etc.) to start the search. The red indicator will flash approximately every 2 seconds.
- Place your finger on the button, ready to lock in the code.
- When the device turns off or begins playback, press the Note: You have about two seconds after the device reacts to lock the code. button to lock the code. The red indicator will turn off.
- Point the remote at the device and check if it operates correctly. If yes, programming is complete. If not, return to step 2 and start the auto code search again.
- Repeat for each device (TV, B-RAY, SAT, AUX) in your system.
Programming Notes for Auto Code Search
- This process can take several minutes as the remote has many codes.
- Ensure the correct device button (TV, DVD, etc.) is selected in step 3.
- The button can be used during search to reverse direction if you miss a code.
- Continue the auto code search until the best code is found, as initial codes might only offer partial functionality.
Favorite Function
Allows you to program up to 10 favorite channels for quick access.
Setup Favorite Function
- Press and release the device button (e.g., TV, CBL, DVR). The indicator light will blink once. Special Note: Select the device type that controls the channels (e.g., Cable Box for changing cable channels).
- Press and hold the button for 2 seconds or until the red indicator light turns on, then release.
- Press and release the button. The red indicator will blink once and remain on.
- Press and release the numerical button (0-9) you wish to use for storing your favorite channel. The red indicator will blink once and remain on.
- Enter the channel number you wish to program (e.g., channel 4, 21, 4-1, 52-2).
- Press and release the button. The red indicator will turn off. Your favorite channel is now saved.
Using Favorite Function
- Press and release the button. The red indicator light will turn on.
- Press and release the programmed numerical button (0-9). The red indicator will blink twice, and the remote will send the code for your pre-programmed channel.
Using Your Remote
Controlling Combo Devices
Some combo devices (e.g., TV/VCR, TV/DVD, DVD/VCR) require setting up two different Mode buttons to control both parts. For example, a TV/DVD combo might need one code under the TV button for the TV part and a separate code under another mode button for the DVD part.
Using SHIFT for Menu and Navigation
The
button allows access to multiple functions (labeled in blue) for certain buttons. Use followed by the desired function button.- For MENU: Press and release / , then .
- For DVR/LIST: Press and release / , then .
- For DVD: Press and release / , then .
- For EXIT: Press and release / , then .
- For navigation (Up, Down, Left, Right): Press and release / , then the corresponding channel or volume button.
SPECIAL NOTE: The remote stays in shift mode until is pressed again or after 10 seconds of inactivity. The red indicator light blinks when in shift mode.
Master Volume Feature
This feature lets you select a single device (TV or audio receiver) whose volume the remote will always control. For example, the remote can be in TV mode, but the volume buttons control your audio receiver instead of your TV.
Enabling the Master Volume Feature
- Press and hold the button until the red indicator stays on (approx. 2 seconds), then release.
- Press and release the desired device button (TV, CBL, DVR, B-RAY, SAT, AMP, AUX 1, AUX 2) for the device you want to control the volume.
- Press and release the button.
- Press and release the button. The red indicator will blink twice and turn off.
To test: Put the remote in another mode (e.g., TV mode if you set the audio receiver as the master). Point at the audio receiver and press/hold
or . If the audio receiver's volume changes, it's programmed correctly. If the TV's volume changes instead, repeat the steps.Disabling the Master Volume Feature
- Press and hold the button until the red indicator stays on (approx. 2 seconds), then release.
- Press and release the device button (TV, CBL, DVR, B-RAY, SAT, AMP, AUX 1, AUX 2) programmed for Master Volume.
- Press and release the button.
- Press and release the button. The red indicator will blink twice and turn off.
Code Identification
- Press and hold the button until the red indicator stays on (approx. 2 seconds), then release.
- Press and release the desired device button (TV, CBL, DVR, B-RAY, SAT, AMP, AUX 1, AUX 2) for which you want the code.
- Press and release the button.
- Press and release the button. Count the number of flashes of the remote's indicator light; this is the first digit of the code. Repeat for , , and for the remaining digits.
- Press and release the button to exit.
Reset to Factory Settings
- Press and hold the button until the red indicator stays on (approx. 2 seconds), then release.
- Press and release the button.
- Press and release the number button. The red indicator will flash twice.
Troubleshooting
Remote does not operate your device.
- Press the device button for the device you wish to control.
- Program the remote with a new code.
- Install new batteries. You may need to reprogram after installing new batteries.
- The remote may not be compatible with your device.
Remote does not operate some features of your device.
- A particular code might operate some features but not all. Try programming with another code.
- The remote may not be able to operate all device features, or button names might differ from your device.
Red Indicator blinks and stays on after programming a product code.
- The remote did not accept the code. Try programming again or use a different code.
Remote code is not available for a device (e.g., TV/VCR).
