Citizen Eco-Drive Watch Precautions and Usage Guidelines
General Precautions
This document outlines essential precautions for the proper use and maintenance of your Citizen Eco-Drive watch.
Charging Precautions
- For optimal performance, ensure your watch is always fully charged.
- Long sleeves can obstruct light from reaching the watch face, potentially reducing its charge. In such cases, additional charging may be necessary.
- When not wearing the watch, place it in a bright location to maintain optimal performance.
Temperature Precautions
- CAUTION: Do not charge the watch at high temperatures (around 60°C or higher), as this may lead to malfunctions.
- Avoid charging the watch too close to a very hot light source, such as an incandescent or halogen lamp.
- If charging your watch under an incandescent lamp, maintain a distance of at least 50 cm between the lamp and the watch to prevent overheating.
- Avoid charging the watch in locations that can become very hot, such as a car's dashboard.
Battery Precautions
- This watch uses a special rechargeable battery that does not require regular replacement. However, over time, performance may decrease due to wear and tear, leading to faster depletion of stored energy.
- WARNING: Never remove the rechargeable battery from the watch. If it becomes necessary to remove the battery for any reason, keep it out of reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion. If the battery is accidentally swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.
- Do not dispose of the rechargeable battery in household waste. Always follow applicable laws and regulations for proper battery disposal to prevent fire hazards and protect the environment.
- WARNING: Only use the specified battery. Using any other battery may cause overcharging if a conventional watch battery or a different battery type is inserted and the watch is charged. This could cause the battery to burst, leading to damage to the watch and injury to the wearer. When replacing the rechargeable battery, always use a rechargeable battery of the specified type.

Precautions and Usage Limitations
General Safety
- CAUTION: To Avoid Injury
- Exercise particular caution when holding an infant while wearing the watch to prevent injury.
- Be extra careful during strenuous exercise or work to avoid accidents that could cause injury to yourself or others.
- Do not wear your watch in a sauna or any other place where it may become very hot to avoid the risk of burns.
- Be careful when putting on and taking off the watch, as you may injure your fingernails depending on the type of bracelet fastening.
- Remove the watch before going to bed.
Operational Precautions
- CAUTION: Precautions
- Always wear the watch with the crown pushed in (normal position). If the crown is a screw-lock type, ensure it is securely locked.
- Do not operate the crown or buttons when the watch is wet, as this can allow water to enter and cause damage to essential components.
- If water enters the watch or the glass fogs up and the fog does not disappear after a long time, contact your authorized dealer or a certified service center for inspection and/or repair.
- Even if your watch has a high degree of water resistance, exercise caution with the following:
- If the watch has been submerged in seawater, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water and dry it completely with a soft cloth.
- Do not rinse the watch under a running tap.
- Remove the watch before taking a bath.
- If seawater has entered the watch, place it in a cardboard box or plastic bag and submit it for repair as quickly as possible. Otherwise, internal pressure may increase, causing parts (glass, crown, buttons, etc.) to detach.
Bracelet Care
- CAUTION: Wearing Your Watch
Bracelet:
- Leather and urethane (plastic) bracelets wear out over time due to exposure to sweat and dirt. Leather bracelets naturally wear, deform, and discolor. It is recommended to replace the bracelet regularly.
- The durability of leather bracelets can be affected by material properties when exposed to moisture (fading, adhesive peeling). Wet leather can also cause skin irritation.
- Avoid contact between leather bracelets and substances containing volatile organic compounds, such as bleach or alcohol (including cosmetics), as this can cause discoloration and premature aging. Ultraviolet light, such as direct sunlight, can also cause discoloration or deformation.
- It is recommended to remove the watch if it becomes wet, even if the watch itself is water-resistant.
- Do not wear the bracelet too tightly. Allow sufficient space between the band and your skin for adequate ventilation.
- Urethane (rubber) bracelets can be discolored by dyes or dirt adhering to clothing or other accessories. Since such discoloration may be permanent, exercise caution when wearing the watch with items that transfer color easily (clothing, handbags, etc.). Additionally, wear from solvents and humidity can occur. Replace the bracelet if it loses elasticity or becomes brittle.
Bracelet Adjustment and Repair:
- Have the bracelet adjusted or repaired in the following cases:
- If you notice any abnormality in the bracelet due to corrosion.
- If the bracelet pin protrudes.
- It is recommended to have the watch's dimensions adjusted by an experienced watchmaker. If the bracelet is not properly fitted, it may come loose, causing injury or loss of the watch. Contact a certified service representative.
Environmental Factors
Temperature
- The watch may stop or its function may be impaired if exposed to very high or low ambient temperatures. Do not wear the watch in locations where the temperature is outside the operating temperature range specified in the instruction manual.
Magnetism
- Analog quartz watches are driven by a stepping motor that uses a magnet. Exposure to strong magnetism can cause the motor to malfunction, leading to inaccurate time display. Keep the watch away from magnetic health devices (magnetic bracelets, etc.), magnets in refrigerator door closures, handbag clasps, mobile phone speakers, electromagnetic cooking appliances, etc.
Strong Shocks
- Do not drop the watch and protect it from other strong shocks. This can cause malfunctions, performance degradation, and damage to the case and bracelet.
Static Electricity
- The integrated circuits (ICs) used in quartz watches are sensitive to static electricity. The watch may malfunction if exposed to strong static electricity.
Chemicals, Corrosive Gases, and Mercury
- Contact with solvents such as turpentine, benzene, or products containing these substances (including gasoline, nail polish remover, cresol, bathroom cleaners, adhesives, water repellents, etc.) can cause discoloration, dissolution, or cracking of materials. Exercise caution when handling such chemicals. Contact with mercury, as found in thermometers, can also cause discoloration of the bracelet and case.
Protective Stickers
- Always remove any protective stickers from the watch (on the case back, bracelet, clasp, etc.). Otherwise, sweat or moisture may penetrate the gaps between the stickers and the parts, leading to skin irritation and/or corrosion of metal parts.
Maintaining Your Watch
Keeping Your Watch Clean
- CAUTION: Keep Your Watch Clean at All Times
- Turn the crown while it is fully pushed in, and press the buttons regularly to prevent them from becoming stuck due to foreign material buildup.
- The case and bracelet of the watch come into direct contact with the skin. Corrosion of metal or buildup of foreign matter can lead to black smudges on the bracelet if exposed to moisture or sweat. Keep your watch clean at all times.
- Regularly clean the bracelet and case to remove accumulated dirt and foreign matter. In rare cases, accumulated dirt or foreign matter may cause skin irritation. If you notice such symptoms, remove the watch immediately and consult a doctor.
- Regularly remove all foreign matter and accumulated materials from metal, plastic (urethane), and/or metal bracelets using a soft brush and a mild soap solution. Ensure that moisture does not accumulate on the case if the watch is not water-resistant.
- Leather bracelets can be discolored by sweat or dust. Keep your leather bracelet clean by wiping it with a dry cloth.
Watch Care
- Wipe off dirt or moisture, such as sweat, from the case and glass with a soft cloth.
- Clean metal, plastic, or urethane bracelets with a mild soap solution and a soft toothbrush. Ensure that you always rinse the band thoroughly after cleaning to remove any soap residue.
- Wipe leather bracelets clean with a dry cloth.
- If you do not use the watch for an extended period, wipe off any sweat, dirt, or moisture and store it in a suitable location. Avoid places with very high or low temperatures and high humidity.
Luminous Paint on Your Watch
The paint on the dial and hands facilitates reading the time in dark locations. The luminous paint stores light (daylight or artificial light) and glows in the dark. It does not contain radioactive substances or other materials that are harmful to health or the environment.
- The luminous intensity is initially very high and gradually decreases over time.
- The duration of luminescence (afterglow) depends on the brightness, type, and distance from the light source, exposure time, and the amount of luminous paint.
- The color may not exhibit afterglow, or it may disappear quickly if the light exposure was insufficient.
