Installation
Method 1 (Vehicle Charger):
- Locate the desired area for mounting, typically centrally located and easily visible to the driver. Ensure the mounting area is clean.
- Optional: Place the included electrostatic film on the desired location for a semi-permanent install.
- Attach the GPS mount to the main camera and remove the protective film from the mount and camera lens.
- Attach camera to windshield.
- Connect the Micro USB cable into the GPS mount and plug the power adapter into your vehicle's 12V port.
- Follow the instructions on the camera screen to set up the Drive Smarter app.
Method 2 (OBDII):
- Plug the power cable into the dash cam and then route the power cable along the headliner using the included tool and cable routing clips as needed.
- Plug the appropriate end of the cable into the OBDII port and the other into your dashcam.
- In the dashcam's setting menu, you can select Parking Mode for monitoring impacts to your vehicle and Motion Detection to capture movement in front of it.
Note: If your battery's voltage drops below 11.9V, the OBDII's low voltage protection function will be activated and power to the camera will be disconnected to prevent complete discharge.
Attaching Accessory Cameras
For Cabin View*:
- Connect cabin camera to the video input port on the SC 400D.
For a View of the Road Behind You:
- Connect extension cable to the video input port on the dash cam.
- Attach FV-RV1 rear camera to the vehicle’s back window.
- Warning: Please position the camera on the rear windshield so it faces out of the vehicle in the orientation shown.

Button Functions
Recording Stopped:
- Enter: Access Settings
- Toggle Audio Recording: Mute/unmute audio recording
- View Videos: Access recorded videos
- Take Photo: Capture a still image
Recording:
- Begin Recording: Start loop-recording
- Lock Video/Emergency Recording: Locks the current video clip to prevent overwriting or tags it as a favorite.
- Toggle Audio Recording: Mute/unmute audio recording
- Take Photo: Capture a still image
- Stop Recording: End recording
Voice Commands
The SC 400D will respond to certain voice commands. Enable this function in the camera's settings menu.
- “Front Video On”: Displays front-view camera.
- “Rear Video On”: Displays rear-view camera (optional accessory required).
- “Record Video”: Begins loop-recording.
- “Lock Video”: Locks the video and tags it as a favorite.
- “Screen On”: Turns the display on.
- “Screen Off”: Turns the display off.
- “Take Photo”: Takes a photo and saves it to the “Photos” folder.
Camera Tips
- The Dash Cam features continuous loop recording, which deletes the oldest videos to make space for new recordings. Save favorite clips from being overwritten by pressing the Lock/Emergency Recording Button or using the "Lock Video" voice command.
- If you need to format the SD card, please do so in the camera itself within the settings menu. Do not format the SD card on your PC.
- The Dash Camera may occasionally prompt you to format your SD card to ensure smooth operation. This will delete saved footage. Download and save favorite clips using the Drive Smarter App or by connecting the camera to your PC.
- If upgrading your SD card, please visit Cobra.com for a list of compatible cards.
Glare Calibration
Place this Quick Start Guide onto your dashboard and use it to check for glare in the camera's live-view screen. Rotate the front bezel to reduce glare.

CE Marking: The 12V adapter shall be installed near the camera and be easily accessible. The adapter output is 5V DC / 2.5A.
Limited One-Year Warranty
Cobra warrants your product against all defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase. Cobra, at its sole discretion, will repair or replace your product (with the same or comparable product) free of charge. Cobra will not pay shipping charges for sending your product to us. Products received COD will be refused.
To make a warranty claim, proof of purchase (invoice or receipt) is required. No proof of purchase is required for factory direct purchases.
Warranty Exclusions: Warranty does not apply if: 1. The serial number has been removed or modified. 2. Your product has been subjected to misuse or damage (including water damage, physical abuse, and/or improper installation). 3. Your product has been modified in any way. 4. Your proof-of-purchase is from a non-authorized dealer or internet auction site.
Limitation of Warranty: Cobra specifically disclaims any representation or warranty, including but not limited to those concerning the merchantability and suitability of the product for a particular purpose. Cobra shall not be liable for consequential, special or incidental damages arising out of the use, misuse or mounting of the product.
General Warranty Information: All Cobra products purchased factory-direct or from Authorized Resellers come with a full one to three (1-3) year warranty. Standard accessories and accessory items have a one-year factory warranty. Shipping to Cobra's facility is not covered; return shipping is included within the US. This warranty is non-transferable.
