Cambridge Courseware (CogBooks) Instructor Guide: Course Material
This guide explains how to use the Course Material tool within the Courseware Tools to manage and configure course material settings.
Starting from the Courseware Tools
Step 1 – Click on the Course Material link.
Within the Courseware Tools interface, locate and click on the "Course Material: Manage and configure course material settings" option. This action will take you to the area where you can manage all your course material for the current course.
The Courseware Tools typically present the following options:
- Courseware Settings: For customizing overall course settings.
- Course Material: For managing and configuring course material settings.
- Push Grades: To manually update grades in your LMS or CogBooks settings.
- Advanced Tools: To view detailed learner activity and progress.
Step 2 – Pick the assignment you wish to edit and make changes.
Select the specific assignment you intend to modify. You can adjust the completion criteria (e.g., viewed versus understood) and grading criteria (e.g., completion or assessment-based) for this particular assignment. Any changes made here will apply only to this assignment, leaving the rest of the assignments with their original configurations.
Assignment Configuration Example
When editing an assignment, such as "Introduction to the Human Body", you will find settings for assignment configuration. You can choose to use the same Course Material Configurations and Grade Configurations as set in the main Courseware settings for your course, or you can specify unique settings for this assignment. Under "Course Material Configuration," a note clarifies that any parameter changes made here are specific to this assignment only. For example, you can define "Assignment Completion Criteria" by setting conditions like "All learning items are under..." followed by a specific value.
Grade Configuration Details
The "Grade Configuration" section allows you to define how learner activity and assessment scores from CogBooks assignments are recorded in your LMS Gradebook. Similar to other configurations, any adjustments made here are specific to the current assignment. You can configure options such as how grades are posted (e.g., based on the "Best Attempt of Assessment" or "Average Score of all Assessments") and how the assessment score is calculated.
Step 3 - Save changes and Push Grades.
After implementing your desired changes, click the "Save Changes" button to apply them. A notification will inform you if learner grades are outdated and require updating. To ensure accuracy, it is recommended to push learner grades after all Courseware settings have been updated. This can be done by accessing the "Push Grades" functionality.
