Preparing to Charge

  1. Ensure the area around the battery is well-ventilated.
  2. Remove the battery from confined spaces before charging.
  3. If removing the battery, disconnect the grounded terminal first. Turn off all vehicle accessories.
  4. Clean battery terminals.
  5. Check battery acid levels and add distilled water if necessary (follow manufacturer's instructions).
  6. Follow battery manufacturer's specific precautions.
  7. Determine battery voltage (unit is for 12-volt batteries only).

Charging a Battery Installed in a Vehicle:

  1. Position cords to reduce risk of damage.
  2. Stay clear of moving engine parts.
  3. Check battery post polarity (Positive/POS/+ usually larger diameter than Negative/NEG/-).
  4. Determine which post is grounded to the chassis.
  5. For negative-grounded vehicles: Connect POSITIVE (RED) clamp to POSITIVE battery post. Connect NEGATIVE (BLACK) clamp to vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery.
  6. For positive-grounded vehicles: Connect NEGATIVE (BLACK) clamp to NEGATIVE battery post. Connect POSITIVE (RED) clamp to vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery.
  7. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.
  8. Refer to operating instructions for charging time.
  9. When disconnecting: disconnect AC power, then remove NEGATIVE clamp, then POSITIVE clamp.

Charging a Battery Removed from a Vehicle:

  1. Check battery post polarity.
  2. Attach a 24-inch (minimum) AWG #6 insulated battery cable to the Negative battery post.
  3. Connect the POSITIVE (RED) charger clamp to the POSITIVE battery post.
  4. Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) charger clamp to the free end of the battery cable connected to the negative terminal.
  5. Stand back from the battery and do not face it when making the final connection.
  6. When disconnecting: disconnect AC power, then remove NEGATIVE clamp, then POSITIVE clamp.

Operating Instructions

Charging Using Battery Clips:

  1. Ensure the charger is unplugged and not connected to a battery.
  2. Connect the battery clips cable to the unit's Double Barrel Charger Connector.
  3. Connect the battery clips to the battery and position the unit as far away as possible.
  4. Plug the AC plug into a 120V 60Hz outlet. The Charging/Charged LED will flash green.
  5. If the Reverse Polarity LED lights, unplug, remove, and reconnect clamps properly.
  6. If the Charging/Charged LED does not light, check connections and AC outlet. If connections are good, the battery may be faulty.
  7. When the Charging/Charged LED lights solid, charging is complete.
  8. Disconnect in reverse order: unplug AC, remove clamp from chassis (if applicable), then remove clamp from battery.

Connecting and Charging with Terminal Rings:

  1. Ensure the charger is unplugged and not connected to a battery.
  2. Remove nuts from battery post connectors.
  3. Position the RED terminal ring on the POSITIVE battery post connector.
  4. Position the BLACK terminal ring on the NEGATIVE battery post connector. Replace nuts.
  5. Connect the Terminal Rings connector to the unit's Double Barrel Charger Connector.
  6. Plug the AC plug into a 120V 60Hz outlet. The Charging/Charged LED will flash green.
  7. If the Reverse Polarity LED lights, disconnect, remove, and reconnect terminal rings properly.
  8. If the Charging/Charged LED does not light, check connections and AC outlet. If connections are good, the battery may be faulty.
  9. When the Charging/Charged LED lights solid, charging is complete.
  10. Disconnect in reverse order: unplug AC, then remove terminal rings from battery posts.
