Charger Location

Connection Precautions

Charging a Battery Installed in a Vehicle

WARNING: A spark near the battery may cause an explosion.

  1. Position AC and clamp cords to reduce risk of damage by moving parts.
  2. Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys, and other moving parts.
  3. Check battery post polarity (Positive/POS/+ usually larger diameter than Negative/NEG/-).
  4. Determine which post is grounded to the chassis.
  5. For negative-grounded vehicles: Connect the POSITIVE (RED) clamp to the POSITIVE (un-grounded) battery post. Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clamp to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery (connect to heavy gauge metal part).
  6. For positive-grounded vehicles: Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clamp to the NEGATIVE (un-grounded) battery post. Connect the POSITIVE (RED) clamp to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery.
  7. Refer to operating instructions for charge duration.
  8. When disconnecting, disconnect AC power first, then remove the clamp from the chassis, and finally remove the clamp from the battery terminal.

Charging a Battery Removed from a Vehicle

WARNING: A spark near the battery may cause an explosion.

  1. Check battery post polarity.
  2. Attach a 24-inch (minimum length) AWG #6 insulated battery cable to the NEGATIVE battery post.
  3. Connect the POSITIVE (RED) battery clamp to the POSITIVE battery post.
  4. Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) charger clamp to the free end of the battery cable connected to the negative terminal. Stand as far back from the battery as possible and do not face the battery when making the final connection.

Note: Marine batteries must be removed and charged on shore. This unit is not designed for charging on board.

When disconnecting, do so in reverse sequence of connecting and break the first connection while as far away from the battery as practical.

Setting Up the Unit

Mounting the Battery Charger

The charger can be mounted on a flat surface using the mounting brackets.

CAUTION: Ensure all instructions are understood and followed. Disconnect the charger from power and battery before mounting. Do not hang anything additional on the charger.

  1. Position the unit on a flat wall surface near a functioning AC outlet. Ensure the surface is flat and free of obstruction.
  2. Use an 8/32-inch wood screw through each mounting bracket. Do not over-tighten.

WARNING: Do not put screws through the plastic housing, as this will permanently damage the unit and create an electrical hazard.

To Mount the Unit Using the Magnetic Discs

The magnetic discs on the bottom allow positioning on any flat, secure metallic surface.
