What You'll Need

Getting Started: Do This First

  1. Turn on Nest Cam indoors: Connect the power cable to the camera and the power adapter, then plug the adapter into an indoor outlet. The camera will power on, indicated by a blue light ring.
  2. Connect to the Nest app: Download the Nest app from the App Store or Google Play. Sign up for a Nest Account or log in. Tap "Add product" and follow the on-screen instructions, which include scanning the camera's QR code. For assistance, visit nest.com/pair.
  3. Test camera outdoors: Bring the camera outside to your desired mounting location. Plug it in and ensure it's streaming video to the Nest app. If the Wi-Fi signal is weak, you may need to reposition the camera or your router. Visit nest.com/wifihelp for more information.
  4. Plan the cable path: Determine how you will route the power cable from the outlet to the camera. You may need to drill a hole for the cable, ensuring no in-wall pipes or wires are present.

Choosing a Good Spot

Mounting Your Camera

  1. Install the wall plate: Drill pilot holes using a 3/32" bit. Use wall anchors (7/32" bit) if mounting on brick or stucco. For outdoor installations, consider sealing the wall plate with caulk, leaving a small opening at the bottom for drainage. Route the cable through the center hole or a notch in the wall plate.
  2. Attach the camera: Connect the power cable to the camera base. Push the camera base onto the wall plate (or mounting magnet for outdoor models) until it clicks. Adjust the camera angle using the Nest app.
  3. Mount the power adapter (Outdoor models): Mount the weatherproof adapter wall plate at least 18 inches above ground. Snap the power adapter into place.
  4. Secure the cable: Use the included cable clips to fasten the power cable along the wall. Route the cable discreetly and consider painting it to match your home's exterior. Ensure the cable is not pulled too taut. For outdoor outlets with covers, use a zip tie or padlock to secure the cover.
