Serial Port Use Display Interface
The thermometer can connect to a computer via a serial data cable. The thermometer displays 'COM' when connected. A Serial Port Assistant software allows the thermometer to send temperature data to the computer every 100ms. The necessary driver (CH340 chip driver) must be installed on the computer. The driver can be downloaded from the official website or obtained from the manufacturer.

Product Components and Connections
The multicomp PRO MP741058 thermometer features an LCD screen, POWER, MAX HOLD, RESET, and SEND buttons. It has an external sensor interface (K-type socket) and a USB interface for serial communication. The device includes a knob for adjusting the rod position, a putter, and a ring gasket. For sensor installation, the red wire of the sensor should be inserted into the red terminal, and the blue wire into the blue terminal.
Diagram Description: An illustration details the thermometer's parts: LCD Screen, POWER button, MAX HOLD button, RESET button, SEND button, Terminal, Knob, Putter, Ring gasket, External K socket, and External sensor interface. It also shows how to insert the sensor into the putter and terminal, emphasizing correct color-coded connections.
Instructions
- Open the battery cover on the back of the instrument, insert batteries correctly, and close the cover.
- Adjust the rod position using the knob. Insert the sensor into the rod and terminal, ensuring correct color-coded connections (red to red, blue to blue) for accurate temperature measurement.
- Short press the 'POWER' button to turn on the device. Check the display for room temperature before proceeding with operations or measurements.
Temperature Measurement Procedure
- Before measuring, clean any residue from the soldering iron tip.
- Place the soldering iron tip on the temperature-sensing point, ensuring good contact with sufficient solder wire. Lay the tip flat on the test point.
- Wait for a stable temperature reading on the thermometer's screen.
- If readings fluctuate, check for tip movement, sensor damage, or excessive airflow.
- Clean solder wire residue from the sensor terminal using a desoldering tool or wick.
- Press and hold the 'POWER' button to turn off the thermometer when not in use.

Precautions
- Handle the thin metal wire sensor (0.2mm) with care to avoid bending or breaking.
- The thermometer housing is plastic; avoid touching the hot soldering iron tip with it.
- The sensor is a consumable item with a limited lifespan (approx. 50-60 uses). Worn alloy layers lead to inaccurate measurements and require sensor replacement.
- Use alcohol to clean solder wire attached to the terminal; avoid thinners or volatile oils.
- A display of '-1' indicates a scrapped or missing sensor, requiring replacement.
- A display of [low battery indicator] indicates low battery power, affecting measurement accuracy and requiring battery replacement. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.
- The 191-212 temperature sensor is rated for temperatures below 500°C. Use appropriate probes for higher temperatures.
- Do not direct hot air guns at the MP741058 host during measurement, as this can cause damage.
- Thermocouple and external temperature sensing wires cannot be used simultaneously.
Function Introduction
- Switch function: Short press 'POWER' to turn on; long press 'POWER' to turn off. The device displays room temperature upon startup.
- Low battery display: A [low battery indicator] in the upper left corner signals the need for battery replacement to maintain accurate measurements.
- Highest temperature hold: Short press 'MAX HOLD' to enter the maximum temperature hold interface; short press again to exit.
- Automatic shutdown: Long press 'MAX HOLD' to enter settings. Use 'POWER' to shorten the auto-off time and 'SEND' to extend it. Long press 'MAX HOLD' again to exit. The device automatically shuts down after a set period (default 15 minutes, adjustable from 1-240 minutes) when idle.
- Temperature unit switch: Long press 'MAX HOLD' to enter settings, then press 'MAX HOLD' again to select options 1-4. Press 'SEND' to switch between °C and °F. Long press 'MAX HOLD' to exit.
- Sensor wire usage count: The upper right display area shows the number of times the sensor wire has been used (up to 999). Long press 'RESET' and another key to reset the count to zero. A flashing prompt appears after 50 uses, indicating the sensor wire may need replacement.
Diagram Description: Various LCD display examples are shown: low battery indicator, MAX HOLD mode, temperature unit selection (°C/°F), and sensor wire usage count.
Diagram Description: A display showing '-1' indicates a damaged or missing sensor wire.
LCD Show
The LCD display provides various indicators:
- Negative characters: For negative temperature readings.
- IR function characters: Indicates infrared mode is active.
- Serial port function characters: Indicates serial port communication is active.
- CAL function character: Indicates calibration mode.
- Maximum temperature hold function: Indicates the MAX HOLD feature is active.
- Temperature unit Fahrenheit: Displays temperature in Fahrenheit (°F).
- Temperature unit Celsius: Displays temperature in Celsius (°C).
- Counting function display: Shows the sensor wire usage count.
- Main window display: Shows the primary temperature reading and other data.
- Battery voltage is low symbol: [low battery indicator] shows when the battery needs replacement.

Infrared Temperature Calibration
- Ensure the device to be calibrated has its infrared function turned on. This feature is supported by specific models.
- Align the thermometer's infrared emitter with the infrared receiving port of the device being calibrated, maintaining a distance of 10cm to 30cm.
- Clean the soldering iron tip and place it on the temperature-sensing point with sufficient solder wire for good contact.
- Once the thermometer's displayed temperature stabilizes, briefly press the 'SEND' button. The screen will display the 'IR' character.
- If the temperature displayed on the calibrated device matches the thermometer's reading, calibration is complete.
